  • I love it!

  • What a charming video! The sound of winding the Victrola. I immediately knew that sound. A charming set up with the candle flickering. Very tasteful and very well done! Loved it. Great sound quality. Very well done. You win the award on the Victrola videos. KUDOS!

  • love the victrola love this recording of one of the best cole porter songs made

  • I love their version of this song. Thanks for posting!

  • My father left me his collection of 7,236 78's and 45's and LPs. Most were unopened. He always bought several, and tucked em away for his grand kids' college funds. He said there was no better investment than pure talent, multiplied by great engineering and then kept from the gullible new fans 60 or 70 years later. One recent bid from Christie's was over $2,925,000 for about half of the lot. Idiot estimators. I'll wait another 30 or 40 years.

  • @PaulGiffs what do expect a million dollars for some old records nobody cares about? should've taken the money you fool.

  • reaaly good qualoty for a 80 yaer old record.

  • This is the best version, in my opinion.

If you need it on CD look for ' These Were Our Songs the Late '30's From Readers Digest collections. Fantastic 4 CD collection got it on Amazon.com

  • Fallout 3, anyone?

  • What a sassy vocalist! Love this recording-the pianist is the cats!

  • great version, wonderful song

  • Where has this one been all my life?!?! Wow!!!!

  • great voice and peppy voice. love record. but it should played on an electronic phonograph.. low fidelity on grammophone player, therefore electronic preferred..ROGHARM

  • Ahh the 20s when life music and everything was better I mean this song can prove it all

  • I'm related to him!

  • I was born too late to enjoy this when it was popular, thank goodness for old records! Thanks.

  • What is that machine? It has a splendid sound. What year is it and the recording?

  • epic music

  • This musical bit was in Fallout 3 by bethesda softworks! Obviously digitally enhanched and cleaned up. But this is just absolutely marvellous!

  • Recorded on October 26, 1934; at the same session, Whiteman and his "Concert Orchestra" also cut a 12 inch two-sided disc of a medley from "Anything Goes"...

  • I cannot tell you how many years I have been searching for this exact recording..... and YOU HAVE IT!!!!!!!

  • BeachguyNL, It's one of my favorites even if it is sort of beat! Thansk for watching and the best of luck in your search for a copy!

    Regards, J.

  • @BeachguyNL hey i found an excellent cd of these two playing you can download its amazing quality link is htt p:// w w w. archive. org/ details/ PaulWhitemanOrchVramonaDavies-01-15

  • @BeachguyNL Archive.org has a copy of it in their music collection.

  • I presume that's Ramona accompanying herself on the piano? She was quite an accomplished pianist.

  • Hookedon78s, I don't know, but I'll ask around. Thanks for watching.

    Regards, J.

  • @hookedon78s ; Yup...that's her on piano...darn good she was too.

  • Such a beautiful recording, the best version of "Anything Goes" I've ever heard. And not only because I'd rather see Ramona "undressed" than the old Cole Porter ;)

  • WalecznyChasyd, Ha Ha Ha Ha! Love it! Glad you enjoyed it, thanks for watching!

    Regards, J.

  • 5/5!!! AWSOME!!!

  • Mugison, (Sorry for the delay in responding.) THANK YOU!!! I'm very glad you enjoyed it.

    Regards, J.

  • That exponential horn always gives the most fantastic sound ...of course, a little Paul Whiteman never hurts, either. Touche!

  • Fiftiesflashback1953, (Sorry for the delay in responding.) Yes, I agree-the folded exponential horn was and still is a marvel of audio engineering. I am still as amazed as I was the very first time I heard one. Thank you for watching-I'm pleased you enjoyed it.

    Regards, J.

  • it's AMAZING how your GRANADA handles a hi-fi victor from mid 30s! most couldn't handle the frequencies without much distortion...good goin'...

(anything goes usually doesn't with the orthophonic victrolas!)

  • VTMCo., Thank you. Yes the folded-horn version of the Granada is a very capable instrument. Of course I stick with soft-tone needles and fibre needles for any new-ish recordings. I should also mention that I had a friend who is a genius when it comes to Orthophonic Sound-Boxes rebuild mine.

    Regards, J.

  • Great video and quite memorable song! A+++

  • CrisVangel, Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it.

    Regards, J.

  • Thanks for posting. I'm amazed that they actually got away with those words back then!

  • Vinylsingleman, Things weren't as innocent back then as some people think. ;-) Glad you enjoyed the song, thanks for watching.

    Regards, J.

  • Oh, I know they weren't....but what was allowed to get through to the general public was another matter. It's not so amazing that this record was made, just that it was allowed to become a hit.

  • Vinylsingleman, I would imagine that since it was hit on Broadway first helped it along.

    Regards, J.

  • Terrific music... and again nice machine!

  • D, Thank you yet again! I'm very pleased you enjoyed it!

    YF, J.

  • i was in this musical at my school last school year, just a chorus member, but whatever it was fun!

  • Fantasylover42, I'm glad you enjoyed the clip. I'll bet you had a great time performing too! Are the clips on your page the production you where in? They look great!! Thanks for the neat comment!

  • I have a victrola just like that, but with an electirc motor. It's also in terrible shape. do you know any restorations places?

    thanks

  • UndyingHunter1, I also have a electric version-it too is in terrible shape! There are a number of good phonograph repair business across the U.S. You be best off restoring the cabinet yourself and have one of them restore the motor. Please feel free to contact me via private message and I can give you some information to get you started.

    Good Luck.

    Regards, J.

  • Beautiful console, Spectacular record. 5 stars

  • Cvwtzhaar, Thank you-on both counts! I do love my Granada, it has brought me much joy.

    Regards, J.

  • that's one honking console! great sound- can't go wrong with Cole Porter.

  • Z..., Thanks, You'll have to hear it in person someday! YF, J.

  • Wonderful to find this here. It deserves many, many more views than a few hundred.

  • Pinkhairgirl123, Thank you, that's very kind of you to say. I'm glad you enjoyed it. Regards, J.

  • What a treasure...what a cool surprise to find it here...thanks!

  • Tazio7, Glad you liked it. Thanks. Regards, J.

  • Uuugh! It hurts. Sounds too good.

  • bURRkEEF, Ha Ha Ha! Thank you so much. This one did come out pretty darn good; glad you enjoyed it. Regards, J.

  • I love this song! Every time I listen to it I remember it sung in the Movie Indiana Jones and the temple of doom! Now I get the chance to hear the original! Thank You!!!!!!

  • ASb, It one of the great ones! I'm glad you like it. Thanks for the great comment. YF, J.

  • Delightful song and once more excellent sound, thank you!

  • Kspm01, Thank you, 'so glad you enjoyed it. I am pleased with the sound of the Granada in these clips, there's much less 'needle scratch' than on the earlier phonographs. YF, J.

  • Indeed. Thanks to the position of the microphone or a new type of needles?

  • Kspm01, No it's the horn of the Granada as opposed to the VV-X I think. Closing the lid helps too-more on the Granada than others. We have been experimenting with microphone positioning and I would prefer to use fibre needled more but they only work well on very clean records and I don't have a lot of them. My clip of McCormack's 'Machusla' was played with a fibre needle. I usually try to use N.O.S. Bagshaw's needles when recording better records. YF, J.

  • Thank you for your comprehensive explanation!

  • Kspm01, My pleasure. YF, J.

  • Excellent! Is that an Orthophonic? It sounds wonderful. I have a Victrola 260 (slightly rare) that I'll try to put some videos of on. I can't yet because it needs to go in for repairs (probably won't be able to post 'til June) I certainly do not have a collection of records like you do, mine doesn't even hold a candle to yours!

  • Edisonphono1, Yes, the Granada is an Ortho model-this one has the folded horn (some early ones didn't like the other one I have). The 260 is a nice machine; I look forward to seeing yours here. You're young you have plenty of time to build a huge collection. Heh Heh! Thank you for the kind words. Regards, J.

  • Superb! Wonderful! Better Sound quality than my copy! Thanks for posting!

  • TransformingArt, Thank you for the compliment. I'm very glad you enjoyed the clip. Regards, J.
