I did try to explain about braked trailers. This doesn't weigh enough to need them. Please read my previous posts. However, the drum brakes are now my handbrake and work great.
I' ve seen some pictures where Granada Estate has been chopped to trailer and I actually like that idea. I also plan to build one from scratch up for not to sacrifice any car. But I doubt about making fibreglass side panels, can I work it out?
You can easily use your own vehicle as a template. Just make sure you have applied sufficient release agent. Or get yourself a cheap car and fibreglass straight on top of it for a mold. Then use the mold to create a Granada body ready for stitching on to a trailer base. Just pay good attention around the door panels and boot to make sure you can cut it properly and add hinges for full functionality. Good luck and post me any pictures when you start.
I did one of these with an Astro van, its a bit tongue heavy though, differential is part of the problem and I just used flat sheet metal, wish I had gotten another set of doors off another van and used them instead so you have full access to the front easy.
Yes, I was going to use another tailgate to close off the front but they weigh too much.
The fibreglass has done a great job and is light.
The diff is the main weight but only if you push it uphill.
I have not done much to it yet, been too cold out.
I have used it as a trailer though and functions fantastic!! So easy to tow. I have bought the rear spoiler and sprayed that white but I want to cut a long slit in it to put long led strips in for a third brake light.
No, I have not really done much on it. It's been too cold. And work hasn't been very good either. This summer I will finish it properly and post more pictures. Cheers.
I had it weighed @ 300kgs. There is still more floor to cut out. I think it's light to push around. BTW, up to 600kgs do not need brakes. This is half the weight.
Lol, Previa Smart car? The gearbox stuck out the back about 10 foot. It was funny though watching the scrap metal guy hitch up the front and take it away.
As for inside, all ply lined and used for tools, materials and occasionally my mobile disco. Unfortunately I still have not done much more to it yet. The weather has been too hot or wet to continue with fibreglassing. And work commitments don't help either.
mudbug, legislation has changed regarding brakes. I was going to use the existing drums for handbrake and brakes but it would be against the law as they don't have "auto-reverse". So I'm going to strip the brakes out and have an unbraked trailer which will then be legal. How stupid .
have you another vid of it finished i would like to see it finished looks great so far

seems like a lot of tow bar weight.
It should be balanced more. But the concept is good.
maybe an extra long one woujd be better.
josephdupont 1 year ago
I've see it done with a 60's Ford Bronco.
The tough part of conversions like that is keeping a reasonable tongue weight.

You wouldn't know a wreck if it slapped you in the face.
This isn't about a 3 series bmw!
It's just a bit of fun...Get over yourself.
BTW, I like the Previa and especially the old shape. What do you drive?

Hi Martin. I too have had the idea to do something similar. What about brakes? I understood you had to have working brakes on trailers like this.

yu should put a door where yu put the cardboard (front)

Love your name.....The cardboard is just for fibreglass support. Then the cardboard was removed.

Wait, one more thing. What did you do with the front? It could have a new use if you think about it. Previa smart car?

Lol, Smart car trailer? Just drive it straight inside and youre off..
I am going to use it for my mobile disco and work too.

Any ideas on what's going inside?
P.S. I was originally searching for smart car towing trailer when I found this
