The move over part is fine, the slow down part is dumber than shit. Cops create more of a hazard by pulling someone over for speeding during rush hour than the speeding driver did doing 10 over. If you can't get over, the last thing you need to do is hit the brakes on the interstate and create a chain reaction behind you. Dropping your speed from 55 to 45 isn't going to make things any safer. Just because you have these rare instances of dumbass drivers, doesn't mean a new law is needed.
Well this law is not only for cops it is also for ambulances fire trucks and TOW TRUCKS!! so if people break down and you do not have a choice where you stop then this is an attempt to make sure everyone gets home. This is Bull Shit! Let's all dismiss the fact that in these videos the people are drunk or skidding. Everyone knows to stay out of the cops way. We don't need a technical law like this. There is no benefit in riding in the right lane vs the left, so repeat offenders are non-existent (unlike speeding laws). Most people hit with this law are just paying "extra" taxes and supporting a state bill that was used as political fodder from a past election!

I do roadside assistance for stranded motorist and when you are slowing down to look and go "OOH LOOK WHAT HAPPENED OVER THERE??" you are Putting YOUR LIFE and EVERYONE ELSE NEAR YOU AT RISK. there's a reason that, when cops pull you over, they park closer to the road than you do. that way, if someone does get close or hits the car, their car would get hit first...therefore saving you. PLAIN AND SIMPLE...If you see emergency vehicles/tow trucks/etc on the side of the road, MOVE OVER A LANE TO THE LEFT...if at all possible. if it's not safe to do so, SLOW DOWN and WATCH for anyone close to the edge of the road. While it may not be a law in your state, it's plain common road courtesy.

Alot of these accidents that the move over law tries to prevent are caused by the officers pulling people over for something trivial like 10-15 mph over. These accidents are the officers fault. The move over law actually causes more danger for drivers having to change lanes quickly. It's because of the trival 10-15 miles an hour OVER the limit that alot of accidents happen. If you are driving the limit most of the time it's not hard top change lanes safely. I am in law enforcement and have been for a few years and to me and my FAMILY we think this is a good law.

Wow, cops have nothing better to do... got a ticket for this today, didn't even know it was a law. I slowed down, but they were inside their vehicles, no reason to slow down. My friend's behind me informed me there was a wreck about 6 miles back. The cop was buy giving me a BS ticket instead of helping. They are a waste of space, they can't do their jobs.

1. The law was passed to protect emergency personnel (who are working to protect you) on the side of the roadway.
2. It should be common sense to move over when safe in order to lower the risk of a collision with emergency personnel on the side of the roadway.
3. Every move over law that I know of states that the motorist will move over -- or when it is not safe to do so, slow down to a safe speed.
