this guy i know had snails. he got 2 cuz they were cheap. well they laid eggs twice and had at least 500 hundred + babies. moral of the story : just get one snail. =)

@poonwheels No, it's called a siphon. It's what snails use to get air. There is a small hole on top and they pump oxegen in through that. When the siphon isn't in use, it's barely visible.

When I had about 3 apple snails, I would throw in a nice big peice of lettuce, They would latch onto the floating plant and nomnomnom.

I had a snail reach halfway up a 20 gallon with his probiscus (or whatever that thing is called) once for a sip of air. He was too lazy to start climbing when he needed air, and all of a sudden I look over and there's this giant tube extending from my snail, I thought he was dying. I asked someone about it online, and they told me it was his "male parts"... They were pretty embarrassed when they got corrected.

They can eat fresh water plants, dead fishes and phytoplankon as you can see tehy can eat whatever they have in the aquarium. Take care.

ya they clean your tank i have frogs and 2 kind of snail in aa tank on of them are a apple snail and one other i had them for about 1 year and i never cleaned the tank they eat all the greams and avery thing.

no the don't. you should change your water weekly so bacteria can form since you need beneficial bacteria in your tank, you also need to know that snails just eat leftover food and algea. thats it!

Nothing but bacteria eats fish poop. Snails eat extra food that lands on the bottom and some algae.
