  • Where is Pendergast ? :/

  • great monster. lousy movie.

  • Does anyone know the song in the end credits can someone please help me find it?

  • omg the best movie ever!!

  • Good book, bad movie, they left out the best character of all - Pendergast - FAIL!

  • Good horror.

  • Never seen the movie before, but based on the reviews i don't expect much from it

  • @Casshyr this movie will scare the pants of you i guarantee it.

  • Good movie, good books

  • I would love it if they redid this movie...the book was so much better an they could do so much better than they did...didn't even include Pendergast

  • Is this movie the the based on the book Cabinet of Curiosities? I'm from Mexico... anybody can help me?

  • @MatiasAndres2491 It's based on an earlier book by the same authors with most of the same characters, "Relic"

  • @MatiasAndres2491 no! it's based on the book by the same name by douglas preston and lincoln child.

  • I'm amazed there's are even things circulating about this!!

Please, read your books before making a film. Though I understand it to be a difficult thing to find an actor to take the role of our favourite FBI special agent. I would like Benedict Cumberbatch to give this a try.

  • @yamifannetje weeeell... i can see body wise he would fit... but facial... nope...

  • Everyone just take it easy ok. At some point hbo will bujy ever Licoln Child novel and rip behind with it, this was but the first cut!

  • Okay, it's a good movie. Not going to argue that, but where's Pendergast?

  • i dont care whether the movie is a fail compared to the book. i just wanna see it!!! i dont care i like the book ill like the movie all the same!

  • Not great, the entire movie goes like this: its dark, people are found dead or die off camera, last couple of minutes: you get to see the creature. Hate movies like this. Lots of bad acting too.

  • o filme é bom sim quem não que va pra puta que pariu............fim de papo........

  • * EXSANGUINATION THE MOVIE ©2011 *

WAS NOT DIRECTED BY PETER HYAMS. ALRIGHT? ALRIGHT.

  • The only thing that bugged me about the movie was that they put Pendergast's characteristics into D'agosta.

  • Is this the movie with the Lizard..

  • I have read every book by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child at least 4 times! But I cannot get this movie on Netflix!

  • yeah and as far as people saying this is not as good as the book agree with you purrfectious. Don't hate on the readers because you are too lazy to pick up a book. We have every right to expect that they would follow at least most of the novel. I actually enjoyed the Lord of the Rings Movie better than the books because they took out some of the worst parts of the movie, but at least they didn't take out main charactors.

  • @MegaPhoenix07 I liked the movie far better than the book, which was slow moving. Now Terminal Freeze was a great book.

  • This movie was the perfect example of how good Hollywood can screw up a very good book and make this pathetic movie. Don't get me wrong, the movie isn't too bad, but like most movie adaptions of a novel, it can't hold a candle to the ther real thing. The first book was great and the second book was just as good. There can not be a legitimate part 2 for the movie because the hollywood idiots killed of two of the main charactors who started the second book.

  • @MegaPhoenix07 ... My sentiments exactly!! Well, save for the bit about the movie being pathetic. I enjoyed it. But, not neeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeearly as much as the book. I wouldn't even pick up a fiction novel before reading The Relic. I've been a fan of Preston and Child's books since. They're amazing! And, those two "main characters" you referenced... i couldn't agree more. Hollyweird definitely loses points for that.

  • @katgrrrl well my comment about the movie being pathetic was in regards on the hatchet job they did on the book to make the movie. Understand I would have enjoyed the movie a whole lot more had I not read the book which was so much better than the movie. Of course, all of this is my opinion.

  • i have been looking for this film for years now and i have got it! i fist saw it as a kid

    good fun

  • From 0:33 - 1:12 Its the Music from the Movie "Lord of Illusions"

  • Holly crap Pendergast doesn´t appers

  • They did a great job on this movie. The book was good too, but the monster in the book was nothing compared to the job they did on the monster in this movie. Everything else was pretty secondary to the monster in both the book and the movie, and since the movie's monster outdid the book's - I gotta hand it to the film.

  • I was looking for movie which i saw at tv, unfortunately last part, dont know the name.Thought that was Mimic 3 but as it turned out not to.So what i saw there was

super organism down in the sewers under small american town he somehow control people, or he consum them and then evoked their images.Few scientis or what, were at the end in some fancy techologic van, full of computers and stuff. and they trick that being with some psychologilac trap.they force his to appear at street.NAME OF FILM?

  • never saw this movie.

  • I hate I snuck n watched this movie when I was little....good times Good stuff !

  • People who get worked up about whether a movie matches a book are stupid. The only thing that matters is if a movie is enjoyable in its own right. I've read the book The Relic and seen the movie and enjoyed them both. They are both, what in the literary world, is called fiction, so who cares if a fictitious character is swapped with a different fictitious character? They don't friggin' exist so just enjoy the book and enjoy the movie.

  • @supersithlord whatever dude. they took out main charactors for crying out loud and your stupid for not recognizing the fact that it's one thing to make changes for the sake of visualization, but to completely rewrite a movie and call it the same, that's just pathetic

  • What a shame that they completely wrote off Agent Pendergast in this movie :(

  • sorry where he says it makes jeffrey dahmer look like a scout, dosent make sense jeffrey was a rapist, cannibal, murderer and tortured his victims he was much more evil than some thing with big teeth and an open mouth

  • Sorry but, the Film RELIC is based on a Book? I didn't knowed, i thought that it's a fantasy film.... What is the name of the Book? Can i find the book in italian language?

    Thanks ;-)

  • Good movie albeit not in line with the novel. I missed Pendergast too, and I think Relic is the only novel in which I have liked the character of Pendergast the most. Mainly, because he didn't overshadow the other characters completely. In rest of the books, they have turned him into Superman of their novels and my liking for him has decreased since then. P&C should really consider toning him down so at least he doesn't overshadow another character.

  • One of my favorite horror/suspense films when viewed independent of the original novel. That being said was definitely disappointed how they melded Pendergast into D'Agosta instead of making him a separate character. Also hated how they killed off Frock and Kawakita (character named Lee in the film). I understand cutting things for time allotment, but altering things like characters, characters' names, and what happens to said characters is unforgivable in my opinion.

  • OMG THIS JUST RUINED THE BOOK IN MY HEAD

  • I read the book when i was ten - it's still my alltime favourite but this movie masacred it.

  • Cryptozoology novel see video book trailer

  • I really like this movie. It's one the most entertaining sci-fi monster movies I have ever seen.9/10

  • 7/10 Great movie. The last part of the movie is totally awesome, but i do think the first 45 minutes was a bit boring, but overall. Nice flick.

  • I definitely remember seeing this movie in theatres. The monster in this movie was pretty awesome. And he was pretty terrifying two!

  • relic novel is maybe deep much scare thing , i dont have read it, i see movie is okay but see monster movie make me creepy sick

  • 80,90 has very good horror , 2000-2010 have crap horror film dont know why

  • Pendergast is what makes this series so FUCKING good. Some of my favorite books of all time.

  • Forget the brilliant book it's based on, as a stand alone horror movie, it's very underrated.

  • I tried buying the rental tape of this film once but the charity shop asked mr for ID so I started arguing with them. It was very unfair

  • @CinemaTouretteGuy I was sold a 15 rated DVD in a licensed shop when I was 12 once.

  • @magnum30796 sweet.

  • good movie i saw this movie and it´ s a very good terrorific history i like this.

  • I've read the book and it's sequel and they are two of the best books i've ever read, but i also really liked this movie as well. It has it's flaws, to be sure, and it left out the coolest character from the book but i still found it to be a very well done adaptation. It was kind of like Alien set in a dark museum, and it kept me on the edge of my seat when i saw it in theaters back in 1997 and practically everyone in the theater was jumping and screaming at the scary parts. Very underrated imo.

  • i liked the movie....

  • @seraphiniadroid Probably because you haven't read the book... xD ;)

  • this movie is a disgrace to the preston and child books

  • noooooooo!!!

    Pendergast?!

    unbelievable....

  • /file/MxAGBTE/The.Relic.DVDRip.Xvid-SARCASSpart1.rar

  • download

  • "I respond sharply to inslts, it's a very bad habit , but one i find hard to break" No pendergast? AAAAARRGGGGH!

and i don't remember the discription of Mbwun in the book looking anything like that...

    grrrrr.

  • The creature's wheezing sound is awesome, i can still remember it.

  • this movie make me feel pain when i was young

  • Read the book first before you waste your time with this sad excuse of a movie. The first chapter will have you on the edge of your seat; wanting to read faster and faster... brilliant writing. But as the norm; Hollywood jacks up another great scifi/suspense with cheap theatrics and really bad acting. The Mbwun is human/lizard... since when would that combination looks like a large ant lion?

  • Pendergast is my favourite character (I'm glad that they don't put him in this thing...) , and the books of Preston and Child are brilliant. This movie is terrible but as an adaptation of the book "Relic" is even worst.

In my account there's a video with my ideal cast for the movie. (and for the other books that come after this).

  • i have trouble finding this book. its always at anothere library.

  • One of the best Horror movies !

  • @hakacumakac I agree. This is a great scary flick from the late 90s.Underrated if you ask me.

  • Im glad they left Pendergast out, he is so badass that who ever they cast as him would fall short and be disappointing .

  • It would have been better if the monster was loose in the city, instead of confined to the museum, and I don't like movies that are always so dark, you can hardly see the monster.

  • @federalwarhawk Hm:) That's how they save money on realistic props:):):) It was light enough, it'd required a monster of Terminator 2 T1000 class:):):) But when it's dark enough, the cameraman's French Bulldog on PMS and having a bad hair day would do just fine:):):)

  • @federalwarhawk

That's what makes it scary.....you can hardly see the monster. :D. Seeing that thing in pure daylight would kill the suspense and turn it into a comedy!

  • the scene with the beetles she was using in the lab, what species was that?

  • I'm just getting into Pendergast. A great character

  • I saw this movie alone at the theatre. I walked home by myself in the dark and went into an empty house by myself. Talk about jumpy.

  • This movie scares me only because it takes place in my city Chicago and the Field Museum

  • @TheChicagoguy Yeah, we get it, youre from Chicago! lol

  • Does anyone know what this movie is rated?

  • @missymoo1397 R for language, gore, and violence.

  • @missymoo1397 maybe 18

  • yes i have the flim but dont no how tp post it

  • Noticed quite a number of negative comments, and all seems similar... Hating the movie just because it is not like the book. :/ The same goes to some other movies that were made based on books. Even movies supposedly based on games, such as Resident Evil. I am not much of a book reader, never read anything about 'The Relic' book, but I have watched this movie and liked it for what it is. Not the best, but definitely not the worst either. For a movie, honestly it wasn't that bad.

  • Whose brilliant idea was it to take out Pendergast? He's only the main detective character. I guess since they turned the story into a generic monster movie, they didn't need a detective.

God this movie sucked. The whole idea of the creature was that it was small and stealthy and could easily hide. Making it freaking Godzilla is stupid beyond belief.

    SUCKED!!

  • @archer1949 They took out Pendergast because they thought he was 'too difficult of a character'. Personally, I'm glad they left him out. If they did, they might have chosen a crappy actor to play him and ruin my mental image of Pendergast.

  • and the second part of perdergast adventures is better. He is not in the film.

  • I heard Pendergast wasn't in the movie... So there goes the chance of the others being on the big screen. The trailer doesn't make it look that good, but I've only got today's movie trailers to compare it too. Does anyone know how good it was?

  • Does anyone have this movie.? If so can you please record it on Youtube?

  • Is Pendergast even in this movie?

  • Book and movie are pretty good. I prefer the book, however the movie has some intereting details.

  • I don't remember too much of the book, but the movie was cool. Tom Sizemore kicks ass.

  • i saw this when i was like 5 cause my mom rented it from blockbuster for it to watch, could never remember what it was called until 20 seconds ago, fuckin awesome lol.

  • My friends and I all agree - they seriously blew a huge opportunity by messing this up so much. If they would have been true to the books, it would have been so much better for them in the long run. The Pendergast series is up to 9 books now... and still going. This movie, if accurate, could have had 8 sequels, all of which were best sellers (I believe?), and hence, could have made ridiculous amounts of money. They. Shouldn't. Have. Messed. It. Up. ='C

    Okay, rant over.

  • I couldn't say it better.

  • I know this isn't very PC to mention this but...

I've always wondered about the escape through the water filled tunnel by the party-goers....

That group included Linda Hunt's character. The water was up the the armpits of the men.

Linda Hunt is shorter than that.

Did they find her a snorkel? You don't see her swimming the whole way. Yet there she is coming out with the other survivors.

  • All ways one ass hole who as to spoil a film

  • Smithback, Moriarty, Jourgenson... they left out a lot I guess because you can only make a movie so long, and leave out so much action/special effects scenes.

  • Pendergast, no? ;-)

  • Yeah the lack of Pendergast was disappointing. THey even went a renamed Kawakita and Whittelsey which i thought was wierd. I dunno, some pretty cool scenes, but the whole thing seemed to be rushed. Just not the same overall effect as the book had, imo.

  • a classic example of a magnificent book being turned into a big dumb movie. The Relic book is insanely kick ass, as are most of their books in fact

  • AnimeVampire, are you just talking to yourself or something?

  • I'm replying to other people's comments.

  • WHAT?! Pendergast isn't in the movie?! Okay, the book is officialy MUCH better.

  • So yea read this book it's GREAT.

  • Horrible movie for an amazing book, kinda like Timeline, or The Da Vinci Code.

  • @jaotaosao lol at Timeline. Another Crichton work that also got mauled by Hollywood was Eaters of the Dead which became the 13th Warrior. As for the Relic, I enjoyed both the movie and the book.

  • A relic is an object of important matter in archeology right? Then what does the monster doing in a museum- someone please give me the history of the monster and why it's there- what it is, i can't find the film on the internet

  • -spoiler-

an archeological team brought back artifacts from a dig, and one of those was a little stone figure of a creature, the "relic," and was placed as the star attraction in a new exhibit. the creature is a superpredator that feeds on certain hormones found in a plant that was shipped along with the other artifacts. when it can no longer aquire these plants it starts feeding on human brains. movie is shit...if you like to read, get the book, it's much better.

  • I've seen a clip- the monsters massive, how come it got to the museum unoticed, or did it grow like alien, or was the artifact huge like a boulder that it hid in cos the only artifact i see looks tiny like a rugby ball

  • It didnt really get to the museum unseen... it more or less hung out in the sewers under the museum and occasionally went through the museum looking for a prey.

I think it just happen to make itself known on the openning of the museums new exibate. And as for did it grow like "Alien", no.

"It" was actually human. It was more or less changing/evolving into what you saw from animal hormones.

I havent seen the movie in awhile but Im pretty sure that sums it up.

  • I agree completely. Pendergast is "the man" and I can't believe they cut him out!

  • Never read the book. What are the differences between the film and book?

  • @DreadRaptor85

the book is much better than the movie!

Read Relic and others books of preston&child. You won't be disappointed!

    Greets!:)

  • you had to read the book! It´s soo cool and great =)

  • Read the book.

  • i agree....how can they leave out Pendergast?! It's a shame they did this really

  • @AricaSay

They left him out so they didn't have to make a thousand more movies about him.

  • @Unskathed123 that is a stupid excuse. There is no cliffhanger at the end of the book. They didn't need to leave him out for that reason.

  • @legomaple

Who said Hollywood uses good excuses? lol

  • @Unskathed123 you have got a point there

  • This movie had to be one of the WORST adaptations of a book ever... It's a terrible movie. So disappointing to anyone who's read any of the Preston/Child books about A.X.L. Pendergast...

  • I totally agree. The book is awsome, the movie is...no comment. I love every book by Preston & Child,Pendergast is my favourite character...

  • i don't know why people are giving you thumbs down, i totally agree with you. granted, almost every movie that's made from a book is terrible, regardless of how good the book is, but what they did to relic was especially horrid. i mean, pendergast is THE MAN. he's the one who brings the most character, integrity, and cojones to the stories, and they completely leave him out... also, i never pictured d'agosta as tom seizmore...d'agosta has WAY bigger balls than him...

  • If you ask me, there's only one movie that was less faithful to the book it was based on, in this case Summer of the Monkeys.

  • @EltonvonCthulhu

Uh....ALOT of movies are less faithful to their novel counterparts.

  • but the movie did have a point to it..it was like night at the museum..but with a violent madder.

  • no it wasnt

pendergast is death or maybe lost

    thats terrible

    read the book

    its godmass

  • i just saw this movie 5 hours ago it was pretty good.

  • the monster in this movie is "kothoga"

  • Actually the term Kothoga is for the ancient Central American tribe that supposedly controlled the creature, which they called the Mbwun. Read the book, it will tell you more.

  • Comment removed

  • really it sucked?!..well i mite rent it on friday and if i see it and it stunk...then okay then.

  • im sorry, this movie sucked. the book is way way way better, they totally changed the plot in the movie.

just a tip for anyone interested. read the book...

    its full of win

  • Book was very good!

  • did ya read the sequel, Reliquary?

  • yeah i thought it was pretty good. The end was quite a shock though.

  • Great movie with catchy storyline. Great mix - horror/thriller/mystery/sci-fi. This movie was very underrated in the 90s

  • It scared the shit out of me when I was 12.

  • same here

  • there is a sequel book to it so they would have to make that into a movie so it wouldn't be called relic 2

  • one of the best monsters EVER !!!!

  • I remembred that scary movie, its good creative monster. I wonder why not they make another movie of "relic 2" ? I dont think they''ll make it anyway.

  • saw this when i was like 8 and it didn't scare me at the time, but stuck with me later on : / same with The Shining which i also saw around that age

  • Best monster ever, right up there with Alien. Good movie but they should have stuck with the book more instead of getting overly creative, Child-Preston need no help, they write fine on their own.

  • Decent film, always liked it. Not great but decent.

  • I saw this movie when i was 5 and it scared the shit out of me. Since then ive been scared of the field museum LOL

  • out of all the horror/monster movies this is the only one that has not scared me that i remember.

    dead serious.

i need to watch it again.

    in my top 50

  • love this movie, I havent read the book though, tom sizemores acting was perfect throughout, the whole cast though were solid and belivable, stan winston did a great job with the monster, for such an expensive movie to make ($70,000,000 according to wikipedia) its really underrated, in MY all thime top 10 movies, but should be in the top 50 at least in official lists, some of the scenes are unbelivable, and the monster makes me jump all the time, sometimes it pops up when you least expect

  • I was going to watch this until I realized there's no Pendergast in the credits. How can you have an adaptation of a Pendergast novel without the Lead character in it?

  • from what I hear, tom sizemores character (vincent dagosta) does everything pendergast does, so technicly pendergast is in the movie, hes just called vincent dagosta

  • I see. I still can't bring myself to watch it though. It's just not Pendergast.

  • *smack* WATCH THE DAMN MOVIE!!!

  • pendergast wasn't really the lead character in relic it was mostly d'agosta

  • I can agree with that. I suppose I see Pendergast as the lead because is character is much more distinct and in the end his focus was the beast (the focus of the story) while D'agosta was just running around the sewers trying to rescue people.

  • this movie scared the shit out of me the first time i saw it.haha! but i really miss these kind of horror movies...they used to be scary for real.

  • The terrifying thing is this shit COULD HAVE BECOME REALITY!

  • how...name ONE POSSIBLE EXPLANATION to how this could happen...

  • genetic manipulation

  • Gran peli. ¿no? xd

  • In case anyone is wondeing, the monster looks like a cross between a lizard, a tiger, and a stag beetle, with humanish features, it has a forehead and a short snout, and a ridge of hair down its back, its ugly but cool

  • barely even shows the monster disapointment

  • aw ive never seen the full movie.. but my current boyfriend played the part of the lil boy eugene when he was 13! haha

  • THE MONSTER IN THIS MOVIE SCARES THE SHIT OUT OF ME !!!! =( =(, also the background music when the monster appears is freakin me out.! anyways, GREAT movie.

  • yes I agree this is one scary movie and everytime I see it, I cringe. There are even images seen here on this trailer that I have overlooked in the movie: Like the reflection of the monsters face through a pane of glass.
