I have a dvd of the anime in american and it's heavily dubbed. wtf disney??? did they get sued by the creators of kimba for ccopyright infringement!!!! Kimba-chan is so kawaii tho :3
No, Disney didn't get sued.. Tezuka's family considered it, but decided not to in his memory.. because Tezuka was always a huge fan of Walt Disney and looked up to him.. so out of respect for Tezuka's admiration of Walt Disney, they decided not to persue legal action.
YEAH WE KNOW WHERE LION KING COMES FROM DON'T WE TRUE 60s anime fans KNOW THE DEAL..AND IF WALT WAS ALIVE HE WOULD HAVE NEVER MADE THE LION KING MOVIE..I AND ALOT OF TRUE DISNEY FANS KNOW THIS..SO DON'T BLAME THE MAN HE DEAD BLAME THE PRODUCTION BIGBADLAMONT
I'm sure if Walt did decide to make the Lion King he would have credited his ideas to Tezuka and not pretened to be totally ignorant of the whole thing.
But it's interesting to see the Bambi reference in this opening ^_^
im not a supporter of disney or anything, but i still say that the argument that lion king copied kimba is stupid. Simba from lion king means "lion" in swahili.. thats why they used it! ...ignorance.
Annnnd the LK famous phrase "The Circle of Life" was first mentioned in a animated film "Land before Time" which came out six years BEFORE LK; also with the talking dead parent int the sky.
Also the "legend of the white Lion" has been prevalent in African folklore since the dawn of man. Ignorance is bliss.
From what I heard the STORY is not what was stolen. But the fact that they deny the stolen animation, and character designs, some sequences, as well as the name of their main character, and made one of the best animated movies ever, proves how sneaky and deceitful those disney bastards can be. I'm all for references and even straight out thievery when credit is given where credit is due. But that isn't the case here. Even Mathew Broderick knew what it was!
This is truly amazing. More than amazing...beautiful...fantastic...Tezuka is so amazing. I am still a child, but I have illustated a couple of books. I'm 10. I'm working on something related to anime now.
This is the first cartoon I can remember watching as a kid and later, when I grew up, I realized it was anime and always wondered what the real intro was- because the japanese intro's are often way better than the ones they replace them with in the US. Thanks for posting it here and linking back to that awesome website. Thanks for the tid-bit about it being the first color cartoon over there. I didn't realize that either and it DOES make it even more awesome.
whether the Lion King was a homage, a steal, or an unknowing similarity to Kimba: this series is wonderful. This opening is wonderful, and the best I've ever seen for a cartoon of it's era.
I watched the heavily edited for America version of Kimba during the 1970's-when I was a child. Although I never got to see many of the wonderful adventures made for this series: I still thought the series wonderful. It was a childhood favorite.
Simba was not ripped off from Kimba. Kimba was only named because the name actually translates to lion. If Kimba hadn't been used then the Lion King character most likely would've used Kimba themselves. Instead they went for Simba.
Actually, since the movie "The Lion King" was based in the African savannah, they named the character "Simba" because in Swahili, it means lion. So, no, even if Kimba hadn't been taken already, they still would have stuck with the name Simba.
Well if Walt Disney was alive, which he wouldn't, sadly since he's my favorite animator, lion king wouldn't have happened. Walt got his ideas mostly for fairytales. It was actually Walt Disney's drawing techinques that inspired Tezuka Osuma to do his own animation. So without Walt Disney today, there would probably have been no Kimba at all...But I don't blame you for being pissed off at the lion king movie. Still love Kimba as well.
I know what you mean... since Walt passed away the Disney company has really become a shadow of its former self. Lion King was still a great movie; it was just a bit cheeky how the Disney company initially tried to pretend they didn't know of Tezuka's Jungle Emperor and that it didn't have any influence on them.
It's true that Tezuka was highly influenced by early Disney, as well as animators like the Fleischer Bros. I think one or two of his characters look a lot like Wimpy from Popeye, hehe!
Eu gosto do Kimba!

Actually if Walt was alive he'd probably say TLK was made to pay homage to Tezuka or something.

If the story that the animated cartoon production company of Japan is like to the Mickey
mouse is made, the American will be angry.
Disney made the lion king.

That's really impressive for 1965. That'd look great if they cleaned it up with todays technology.
