Lesson to learn from this: UNHOOK!

The 1st lesson in Kiting is safety. aka the little red ball right next to the power lines and the other little red ball at the end of the loop where the kite hooks the harness, if you're out of control and have to pick between your life and the kite, pick your life dude n pull the safety and unhook omg so stupid... don't unhook unless you're going to hurt yourself cuz the kite goes to waste and breaks... but by all means unhook if you must and safe urself

If he let go of the bar it would depower but probably not soon enough. Letting go of the bar does not colapse the kite you have to undo the chicken loop then the bar and 3 lines go. Your 4th line is connected so that it colapses and the kite stays attached to you.

- First he could have taken some precaution:

1) Take lessons or at least get (live) instructions of experienced kiters and/or instructors.

2) Use a smaller kite

3) Depower the kite

- If for any reason the kite keeps on dragging you anyway:

1) Steer the kite to 12 o'clock if possible

2) Let go of the bar

- If it still keeps on dragging you:

Pull the safety release or unhook the chickenloop. The kite should flag out on one line now, only connected to your harness with the safety leach.

- But in the worst case even then it can still go wrong:

Pull the safety release of your safety leach and let go the kite. Be aware that the kite can still cause damage to anyone and/or anything on its path.

As you see there is a lot to think about, and all of this in a split second. It should already be a reflex before you get on the water. This is one of the reasons why you should get instructions of experienced kiters and instructors.

Yes and if the kite was still looping he could pull his final safety to completely release the kite. Problem is that you have this thought in the back of your head that you can save the situation and not have to let go of your kite because it could damage itself or someone, however the best advice is to just pull the safety once the kite is released it is actually less likely to damage itself and others because it will lose power and should just fall to the ground
