  • The laughter works to Cage's advantage by adding an eerie, emotional over-layer to his musique concrète. If his "Water Walk" creates a soundscape for an environment then the audience is that setting's characters. Those uncomfortable viewers are as manipulated by the performer as that bathtub.

    As they say, there's no music when nobody's there to listen.

  • This video exists as a testament to early television in that they allowed such great programing which today would not most likely be shown by profit driven media systems with their multi-million dollars ad spots.

  • Can't believe he lowered himself to do this show. I'm sure none of the viewers had ever heard of him.

  • @6motion6 Cage was quite poor during this time, but even so, I don't see it as lowering himself, he thought it was OK for people to laugh if that is their reaction. He didn't lower himself - he revolutionized and made people think as well as made life into music. How is that lowering himself?

    As an aside, the piece is called "Water Walk," not "Water Falls."
