No, Mandarin's not Cantonese with an accent. There are some syntactic differences between the two and 6 or more tones in Cantonese, for instance. I can read some Chinese, but I don't understand any Mandarin.

in the mandarin version, he has left her, but she has learned to be strong, she cannot rely on him forever.
