Wow... you booted up the x300 first. x300 has no software and is a blank copy of xp which makes it light as anything. As opposed to an older x61 with vista and has softwares in them which is one of the heaviest microsoft OS which everyone hates because of it.

Yea this video is BS. (Cool to see the X300 in action though; I so want one!) My T43 boots XP in like 35 seconds. Regular 5400 rpm 60gb drive. AND IT'S PRETTY MUCH FULL OF DAW PROGRAMS AND WEB AUTHORING PROGRAMS AND GAMES AND GIGS OF FLAC. 2GB of Ram, 1.86 Centrino (not even a dual-core) a clean XP Pro install and NOT VISTA. It also boots Ubuntu in about 20 seconds. HEY TECHNOLOGY GUY, IT'S NOT THE SSD MAKING IT FASTER, IT'S XP. *Sigh* n00bs.

No doubt. We're well aware of what they're comparing, but that point here, AmadeusPower, is that they are using TWO different OS's. In situations such as this you want ALL factors to be equal (i.e. OS's) except for the factor being testing. I could run a X300 against a 1986 IBM PC and say it boots faster but that doesn't mean I made an accurate comparison now does it?

Spent many years at MSFT and have a couple of comments.

Firstly, for such tests to be valid i.e. testing the performance of a particular element of hardware or software, both machines have to be identical in ALL other capacities.

Using a different machine, different hardware, different OS and even different boot up modes is not an appropriate method of review.

And Mac folks - this has nothing to do with Mac vs PC debate - both have flaws ;-)
