Ugh, you have no idea how much of a relief that is after having to play the original...unless you played it all the way through yourself. But yea, while I won't say this game is great, it fixed sooooo many problems the original had.
Sorry for my question but... Is this an official sequel! The gameplay is like "Friday the 13th" mixed up with zelda and final fintasy! Plus, there are no reference to the original spelunker!!
The full name of the game is Spelunker II: Yuushahe no Chousen.
From what I can tell, it does have the same Publisher (Brøderbund) and same Developer (Irem) so I would say this is definitely an official sequel even though it's a good bit different.
There is indeed no reference to the first that I know of. I would only say that it's an official sequel based on the same people made both and chose to call it Spelunker 2. Other than that, it really has nothing to do with the first one.
@TheUtilityMan It's not by the same people, the first was a game originating in the west. This game was made in the east by the developers who did the conversions of the first game to Japanese machines.
You even do it without skill :D

Just irem cashing in on the "success" of the original game.
I prefer the original on the Atari 400, or the two new versions on PS3, Spelunker, and Spelunker black
