  • For Christmas, I want his hands

  • Who knows what´s de name of the starting song. It´s also the demostration #4

  • @cubanomon

    Damage Control?

  • @cubanomon yeaa its damage control funnest riff ever learn it:P

  • @cubanomon but learn the whole part he only shows u a small part of it...

  • buenisimo el video,gracias

  • 8:11 is the best fucking part *-*

  • beautiful chords!

  • ex 8 sounds like canon rock

  • @damo51294 Pretty much the same chord proggression.

  • i think most of this stuff is from his solo moon bubbles, kickass solo if u dont know it check it out.

  • "Transcribe this, bitches!" Gotta love his face on Ex-7.

  • I love how every lick has to get his nod of approval at the end :P

  • His face when he's playing example #7 is priceless.

  • almost the same face of the rainman when he counts cards...thats as easy as this guy plays

  • @MysticGuitar77 I think he looks like Dr Atticus from Hilltop Hospital. Google him, or click this link if you trust me. bit . ly/ iArKIi

  • his chops were better in the ibanez days..

  • @twasco Hmm... I disagree with that, I just think he was having a day where he lacked a decent tone and a certain amount of creativity. Plus, it's only exercises, but fair enough :)

  • anyone know what #4 is? i cant remember the name of the song but i know i've heard it before and its killing me!

  • It's from 0:40 onwards of Damage Control, from Suspended Animation :)

  • thanks

  • Actually i think it's from Acid rain from LTE, when Master Petrucci was being part of :)

  • Animate-inanimate from his Suspended Animation Album

  • out of all the shred guitarist out there Paul gilbert and petrucci are the two guys, who try to make things easy for other players in there lessons. other then them two iv watch alot of celeb shred guitar lesson and most are played at 200 bpm and you cant understand anything.

  • Demonstration #5 (The Glass Prison) is so god damn cool. That riff is fun as hell on bass, I love it. Dream Theater has to be one of the best bands ever, I can never get enough.

  • WOW

anyone have any idea which mesa he's using here?

  • @teokiatuan2

I would assume it is the same exact amplifier that he uses on the G3 2005 tour, go have a look.

  • nyc! he looks like a squirtle in POKEMON! cuttie! hahha my guitar God! Hands UP! hahaha!

  • don't need to talk about him,awesome...

  • Ex-6 (oops)

  • Ex-9 Is Acid Rain

  • I love the Glass Prison, he should make a vid of the arpeggios

  • acid rain :Plol

  • salamat petrucci

    nakakakuha ako ng idea sau

    God bless

  • They are exercises not songs.

  • weno thanksss john

  • stop talking loudly....

    show your skill...

    play the music......

  • Thank god he doesn't try to be like everyone else and just plays his own way!

  • "This is what I like to see young guys ripping it up" says my Granpa

  • your grandpa is awesome

  • When he plays it slow, does He excpect the normal deadly to play that?!

  • John Petrucci rocks! really sickens me that there are always some assholes who has to pick sides on which guitarists are great and which guitarists that suck. saying shit like "paul gilbert only knows how to play scales" just tells everyone how much of an ignorant fuck you are. most of your stupid opinions are bases jealousy and ignorance rather than objectivity. instead of wasting time talking shit about great shredders. listen to their stuff you might actually enjoy it. I like em all

  • Is the demonstration number 4 a song?

  • damage control, from his solo album suspended animation

  • 5:56 is the best lick

  • 2:36

*takes picking hand away from strings*

    ....*nod*

  • wat guitar is he useing

  • Ernie Ball Music Man JP6

  • Oh then at the end a JP7. Both Mystic Dream color, both fully loaded. Both with the original bridge pickup instead of the newer D-Sonic.

  • no he plays music that are both melodic and hard to play. he creates exercises to make the riffs in his songs a little less challenging

  • I know that. But sometimes the solos sound like exercises; something like scales up&down, up&down. But I like DT and Petrucci a lot!

  • yeah thats true

Steve Vai is one that sounds really like melodic. his solos and shit are extremely difficult

took me about a month to get tender surrender down

  • hehehee

  • probably cause your bad at guitar, steve vai's over rated

  • just jealous.......

  • Of paul gilbert? He can play like a machine, but he can only play scales. Im jealous of his skill, not his musicla approach. However, I bow down to the real greats, like pterucci, vai and stanley jordan

  • omg gilbert is def as good as everyone else

  • I really love the "tick" sound before each exercise.

  • Reminds me of a lighter flicking open

  • Where is Demonstration #2 from? The lick at 1:10?

  • It's from "Paradigm Shift", taken from the Liquid Tension Experiment 1 album

  • Weren't it in some Dream Theater song too? I think I've heard it somewhere...

  • You may have heard this lick in the medley they made for the Train of Thought Tour. Actually you can hear it in the medley of the "Live at Budokan" concert.

You can also here it in some JP solo like on the "Once in a Lifetime" live.

  • WHERE CAN I GET THESE TABS??

  • lol just noticed his guitar hes usin is a 7 string

  • in the last part i mean

  • theres a bit of paradigm shift in there too :D

  • What is the bridge pickup? Ain't it his old Steve's Special?

  • His bridge pickup is a Dimarzio D-Sonic.

  • Well, I know that. But I'm asking what pickup he is using on THIS video. D Sonic has some "line" on one side of the humbucker and this one does'nt have the "line". He used his old Steve's Special on his solo album and maybe he used SS on that video too. Just asking.

  • the last riff is from The Glass prison, from the album six degrees of inner turbulence. sick ass song!

  • Where is the last riff from? It is a real kick ass! Does anybody have the tab?

  • I think it's another one from tunnel vision, sounds like the rythem guitar to it.

  • The last riff is from a song called Glass Prison by DT...but in the last 10 secs he turns it to tunnel vision

  • nice

  • Is it just me or, does Example 9 sounds similar to Paul Gilbert's Technical Difficulties?

  • yeah it does, it's from tunnel vision tho

  • His pinky is not human!

  • None of the licks are meant to be particularly musical (although a couple do sound nice) - they are merely for honing technique.

  • Right. Notice they're called "exercises" :).

  • Holy cow!!!

  • I love exercise 9 =)

  • lol, same since a year

  • verymuch helpful video :)..thnk u

  • hoooo thanks....

  • dammmmmmmm

    the last part is from

    The Glass Prison

    (best fucken DT song ever!)

    =D

  • The first one is from Acid Rain =D

  • yeah on LTE 2, i think

  • john petrucci is god! enough said! n he has such an amazing taste in guitars. if only i had the monies :(

  • this guy is one of the best guitar players he is bloody good

  • at 5:49 it's damage control off his solo album suspended animation

  • Thanks ;)

  • Hey, someone knows what's the song in the Demonstration at 5'49''?

    Thanks ;)

  • JP ROX

  • Please tell me why these licks are so special? They're boring - they bring nothing new to the table at all.

  • they are great within their original songs though.

  • @djonesy59 they aint licks.... just excersises to improve dexterity in playing

  • His tone is "crap" simply because he uses his own guitar through some cheap amp where they record the Young Guitar-material. It could be a freaking Riley 15W for all we know. Not his amp as we all know.

  • he doesnt even look at his guitar ... is JP is an alien ??

  • You're all commenting on how he's so much worse in this video than normal. What you don't realize is that this is what most of your guitar "gods" sound like without their 10' tall racks. Even in Rock Discipline he is playing through his rack. In this one, you can tell that there's no effects at all. Just a distorted amp.

  • His tone is kind of bad, but what he's playing is amazing and is the same as what he plays normally. Effects can't fake skill or speed. Just make crappy stuff sound cool if you don't pay attention to to the suckiness.

  • I think John was drunk, stoned or just on a bad day here...he's still good here but normally he's 10000 times better...and i hate his tone here it's like a bad rhythm tone, where's his beautiful lead one.

Rock on Petrucci you shred god.

  • hey, this is acctually an exercize video, not a video where he shows skills

  • lol he looks at the camera every time going "this is sooo easy, why am i here" lol

  • FUck, you're so right dude, he's just god, for him htat's just usual shit, for us that's ultimate level

  • So funkin true ! LOL

  • That look on his face after every demo is hilarious. The way he looks up at the camera... what is he expecting to happen?

  • Anyone knows the EXACT tab for the ex 9's riff ? (i miss a note ... damn !)

  • they actually had to slow down this video quite a bit so we can actually see what he's playing. When he plays it the slowest.. that's like the slowest framerate possible.

  • yo kreo ke la uñeta tiene un mino robot adentro ke lo hace tokar asi xD

  • what has he become? still awesome player, but my god!

  • I was thinking the same thing, but I've ruled out that he a)didn't warm up or b) it was a bad day. I came to this when I saw first the Score DVD and then live with G3, in which he revealed how much more of an awesome player he has become since day one.

  • John is a real guitar hero - practise makes perfect

  • Si abusa de picking es porque es el mejor haciéndolo y el más rápido :D A mí me encanta

  • Deus Feeling!

  • Demasiado rapido. Gran guitarrista aunque a veces abusa del picking.

  • A veces?? jeje yo creo que siempre... =P pero no le quito lo bueno que es tampoco... =D
