Here's a decent question, Do you need to export it out of Audacity or can you just change the extension to aiff? I'm wondering this because i did this and it didn't work, not sure why but i don't want to be downloading random programs to my computer.

@pencepimp as long as you are actually converting the file. changing the file extension wont necessarily change the format.

Make sure you are naming the folder UISounds and not UI Sounds. There cannot be a space in the folder name. That was where I had my problem. Once I took that space out of the folder name this method worked perfectly! Muchos nachos, amigo!

Guys listen, this DOES work:

Follow the instructionts until 00:52, then Open iTunes, drag the ringtone into the library and then click it, then click Edit>Prefrences>Import settings>AIFF Encoding>OK>Right Click Song>Create AIFF Version>Copy New song to the desktop, and then continue to follow instructionts after 03:05.

Notes:

1. You can use iFunBox as well instead of DiskAid (Google "iFunBox").

2. Your iPhone MUST be jailbroken and has Winterboard.

@Megadude12345 It's unlocking your phone. When you jailbreak your iPhone, you are breaking your contract with your carrier. You can always reset your phone if you want it to be back to it's original settings.

Works great, but I have a question: if for example, I run out of default apple tones to modify, I can't add more? Say I have 10 apple text tones, and I changed them all alreadyusing this method. Will I only be able to "add" more by modifying the previous ones which I had already changed? Thanks !

For those who use a PC computer and don't know how to get a AIFF format, use iTunes.

Open iTunes>click Edit>Properties>Import settings>AIFF Coding>OK>Drag your MP3 file into your iTunes library>Right Click it on the list>Create AIFF Version>Right Click and select "show in Windows Pathfinder".

From there you can go ahead and rename the .AiFF to .caf and the phone should be able to read the fine.

hi i have a problem. im using a pc. but when i make the folders and put the aiff file in the UISounds folder and rename them to sms-receive2.caf and push enter, it doesnt change to a .caf file. how do i do this?

i renamed it sms-received1.caf, and it didnt change it to a .caf file either. if you look at his video closer neither does his. for some reason my pc didnt prompt me on it. but it still worked! thumbs up.

Im so glad i got this to work, it took so much time to work out the bugs and what not considering i didn't have winterboard but after that i was able to make this all work =D just make sure u spell everything correctly i didn't and first it didn't work but I fixed my spelling mistakes and it works GREAT!!!!!! @MAXurMAC no. 6 is the maximum. It may be different now, since iOS 4.2 added 17 new tones to the iPhone 4. I don't have a jailbroken 4, so I can't accurately answer this. For all iPhones running iOS 4.1 or earlier, 6 is the max.

There is a missing config file within “Blackra1n” and in “Spirit” jailbreaks that prevents DiskAid to access Root folder. You can fix that by downloading the “afc2add” from Cydia!

One thing I think many of u that doesn´t get this to work is that u spell the name of the file wrong, I´we helped a couple of friends of mine with this, and all of the spelled "sms-received" like "sms-recieved" for some reason. Check that.

@thatguywhoswatchingu Looks like you have the same version of Audcity that I have. When u have opened up Audcity - Click Audcity menue @ the top, click preferences then click the File Format-tab, in the "Uncompressed file format"-section, choose AIFF instead of WAV :)

You need to jailbreak it. After you done so, go to Cydia and look for something called "afc2add" without quotes. Install it, reboot the iPhone and the root folder should show up.
