Odd thing is I seen this at kmart around september of 2011 and im like they still make this thing and here I still have mine from like 1990's that still has the light it came with that still works just the bug making stuff they dont make no more
man, they really sissified that unit from the original which had an open heat plate and a squeeze handle made of metal to lift the molds out. I think I even had the set that made troll heads for the top of pencils....man I feel old..
@TomZale56 You are 100% correct. Today's CCs are sissified. I have the original I got for Christmas in around 1967 or 68. Shit, it wouldn't be real 'Thingmaker' is you didn't burn the edge of your little finger now and then. I had the Mini Dragons too, and that troll head, and also the Shrunken Head mold. But I SO wanted the Fright Factory.
does anyone remember the toy that was similar to this, but instead of making creepy crawlers you smelted your own metal pendants and things? the more I think back on that toy, the more I'm shocked at how it was deemed ok for children...
A major reason for the original recall was when the goop was being "cooked" toxic fumes would be sent into the air. Apparently too many kids breathed in the toxic fumes, so it was recalled.
With the original Thingmaker, you could insert plastic wings & small safety clips into half done mold because it was on the outside heating, not in a small enclosed oven. Then you got a winged critter and a bug clip on for your clothes.
Oh man, I can still remember the smell of that goop stuff....I had the Creepy Crawlers set that was introduced in the 90's, I loved the hell out of that thing! Man...Toys R Us was the place to be when I was growing up in the 90's!
@MrGrimmv2 my brother had it as well, they sold extra (different) Colours, the neon mixed very well together. He always mixed the colours and had no problems at all. Maybe you had bad goop
i got a special bugs life version for Christmas back in 2000 (i think) i never ended up making a single one cause i never got a light bulb for the oven lol
WOW!! So cool John!! Interesting toys! Unfortunately we never saw this in Malaysia. Closes we had was Play-Doh! And I kinda like it when I was a kid =D
Since nobody has pointed this out yet, I should let all you new oncoming readers know about this... Aside from the selling toys, there was also a short lived Creepy Crawlers Cartoon Show.
Yeah!!!... Haha, I USED TO HAVE THESE!!! :D Damn, crazy! Do you remember "Monster Face"? I think that's what it was called. Your vids are awesome man! Memories :)
I actually can't remember what happened to mine. I bet my mom threw it out when I was 16 (the last time I can remember using it). Yeah. My mom's one of those "clean up and clean out" kinda moms. Ha! Thanks for sharin!
i have the same type of mom. cannot STAND having old stuff around. we really have to be careful with telling her to keep certain things, because she'll even throw/give away things like books, papers, and tests that we might need later in school. and there are plenty of toys that my brother and i THOUGHT we had stored somewhere, but then found out she eventually threw out.
I think they made something similar after Terminator 2 came out, where you could mold a skin around a plastic terminator robot in one of those cheap ovens, I always wanted one of those. Totally remember the Creepy Crawlers commercials and the theme you mentioned lol.
loved these things. I can't believe you still have these things from your childhood and they're in awesome shape! I tore the hell out of my toys the only thing i had left from my childhood was a G1 optimus prime that was so tore up i had to put a q tip to hold the legs togehter LOL
Ah, the memories! My older brother used to have one back in the mid-90's. I remember seeing the commercials for it, and I always wanted one, but it just never happened. Great video!
I remember my cousin had the Creepy Crawlers set when he was much younger and we would make them up when i was over visiting him funny stuff. Now you need to do a video of the "Might Men And Monsters Maker" remember that one? : )
easy bake for boys yep, its the cool easy bake, lol, i always wanted one as well but never got it but did have almost all transformers g1 through the 86 movie though man, good times.
dude, i thought these were awesome when i was a kid. my parents wouldn't let me get it but my friend had it and always gave me different creatures he made.
