  • How ola is he??? i want to be the youngest iron man competitor unless he has me beat

  • That's crazy. I wish I was that fit and had as much passion when I was 13.

  • so......did he finish????

  • He doesnt have that much to carry for that race, but he is definitely lean muscle. I wonder what his body fat percentage is...

  • he cant have done one. Its not allowed and he would damage himself permanenty training for and racing an ironman

  • He did do it. It was called Canada. An event called "My First Ironman" allowed Austin to participate. The Race director also believed that fitness in young people should be encouraged. As a USA Triathlon certified Coach, I spoke with several people in Colorado Springs who would NOT give permission for this young athlete to compete in a sport he had a passion for.

  • Let me say this as his coach, I feel this is something that "normal" kids SHOULD NOT do. This kid was different. I expect to see him in the 2012 or 2016 Olympics for either triathlon or swimming. He is THAT good.

I can almost bet that if this video were about Lance Armstrong back in 1985 you would have been posting the same comments. He can't o triathlon! He can't race with adults! He's going to medically injured for life!

  • He did have a nutritionist, doctor, and coach with him every step of the way and training involved over 12 months of pretty intense training.

Hell, 90% of American adults couldn't do what this kid did. It should be seen as an inspiration, not as an "in your face" age grouper.

  • From the strong response a accept that i may well have been wrong about him completing one, i'm sure i wouldn't have mamaged it at 13. However even if he is able to remain injury free, motivational issues may well effect him in the future. Doind too much too soon is a comon cause of early retrement for professional athletes

  • Try and tell that to Lance Armstrong. This is what he wanted to do at this point in his life and his parents were totally supportive!

Should we just tell our children not to pursue their dreams in life because it may affect them negatively in a couple years?

Tell Tiger woods not to take an interest in golf at 3?

There are a lot of athletes out there that do not have this young adults mental capacity and drive!

I believe in pursuing one's dreams and see where they take you!

  • yeah i agree with you, i must admit i am pretty jelous haha but grats to this kid for doing something he is passionate about

  • i go to school with this guy, he is BEAST lol.

  • Thats not very healthy for a young guy like him... i hope he gets medical observation... but otherwise... respect for this power...

  • it isdefinitely more healthy than eating hamburgers and hotdogs and playing video games...

  • You have to be 18 to enter the Ironman.....unless was there some sort of diff Ironman? But still, respect..

  • Respect

  • 13 hours and 38 minutes

  • that's awesome!!
