  • You shouldn't train your dog with food. If you ever need your dog to do something for you during a life and death situation on the dog knows you don't have food, guess what...she wont listen.

We have a 4 year old lab that we have trained to do everything including bring you the phone and turn on the lights. He does it all and doesn't demand a thing in return other than a pat on the head and some love.

  • I cant make my puppy sit after down. I need to say up, then sit :)

  • @stephacorn i have just got 13 week old lab and it my first pet ever..can u please help me how to train her to walk on leash and to come when i call her to come ...and HOUSE TRAIN HER .....

    PLEASE .....

  • How do u do that

  • How do u do that

  • I have a 2 month old called Oliver, who is too hyper!

  • @Godiva0Reservoir me too.. he's name is thobby..

  • Such a clever little pup! Labs and lab mixes are so smart, and very quick in their learning too.

  • Midnight is so smart that is really cute. Where did you learn to train her? I am getting my first puppy and I really like to have her as well behaved as yours.

  • my lab learnt all his tricks at same age, after one try he's so food motivated

  • whats that clicking thing called

  • Hi, I'd just like to make a point that when you do the 'leave the treat' training, I would give it get it to completely leave the treat and give it another one for reward. Cos it might learn that it gets the dropped food if it just waits a bit which can be bad if it's something dangerous. Just a thought; I know she'll be grown up now anyway :-)

  • Do not bother with the clicking device. To be honest its just a gimmick, there is no need for it. Also do not give your dog to many treats as a reward. Before you know it the pup will be too eager to get its reward and will rush its commands and you will slowly be undoing your and the pups hard work. You should only use a reward if the pup is really struggling to grasp the

exercise. Above all training should be fun for you and your pup.

  • my 5 months old black lab is a tornado.. nothing can stop her from playing, running around and jumping at anyone except food and sleep.. she's my crazy huge baby.. ;D

  • Your dog is sooooooo sweet.

I'm thinking of getting a lab but curious still about something which I'm wondering if anyone here can tell me:

Is there is any difference between brown, black and yellow labs besides colouring?

  • @MORTIMER2619 There isn't a great deal of difference but some say that yellow are more mellow, and brown are the least trainable but they are all still VERY smart and have a great temperament. They are very energetic as puppies so get in early with the training and be consistent. I love my black lab so much. Good luck with your new friend!! :-)

  • @crazypianolady I don't agree with brown being the least trainable. I have never had a problem with my Chocolate lab. He doesnt go crazy or flip out. he is very calm when needed to be and when outside I dont have to worry about him running away he is very good. I have seen that black labs are the hardest to train.

  • Cool but, well, so much for a dog being a dog sometimes. I hope you have a big park or a country escape you go to. Black labs need that big time.

  • I think Midnight is smarter than me...

  • Until the poor thing gets hit by a car because you don't have the dedication or patients to train it... @Blackbows07

  • your dog is smart but you are not using clicker training correctly. After each click, the dog should be rewarded with a treat or something. You don't just click. I'm not sure if you are actually dropping a treat or something but you don't always give the dog a treat. If this continues longer, as in a lot longer, the dog may assume that the click doesn't mean anything.

  • This dog isnt a black lab! Its a alsation! I have a black lab and its bigger than that and its a sandy colour! Also they are nasty dogs and bite! Thats why drug dealers have em!

  • When should I start teaching my puppie tricks. She is 6 weeks

  • OH MY GOD!!! I'd love my Serena to be like this.

  • omg, she is sooo smart!

  • I mean awwwwww iPad autoncorrection

  • I meant awwww srry auto correct on ipad

  • wow!! soo coooool!!

  • I don't understand why you're using the klicker when you're not doing it correctly. Each click should be followed with the food. You can't just click when you feel like. Read about it and you'll understand.

  • your wrong

  • @mathilda212 your correct. I said the same thing as well

  • @PrincessnArue: Cover your kitchen (or whatever room you keep the dog in) floor in newspaper. The pub will get used to going on the paper. Each day take a piece of the newspaper away. Then finally, put the last piece of paper outside. Worked for my lab. Get the book "Family Dog" (in the same series is "Water Dog" & "Gun Dog") - good books.

  • My black lab is 8 years old now and still steals and rips things up, won't listen to commands and if the door is open he makes a bolt for it! Wouldn't change him for the world though!

  • @Blackbows07 That's how best fiends are!

  • @Blackbows07 you are guilty :)

if you don't learn to read, you parrent's are guilty, not you, same with dog :) :) :)

im sure that you know that allredy but i am glad to see that you wouldn't change him for the world :) :) :) So God bless him and you afcorse ;)

(sorry for bad english :) )

  • @Blackbows07 I know you probably spoil your dog as much as I spoil mine but it sounds a little dangerous especially bolting out the door!

  • @Blackbows07 I see your dog is very mentally demanding...-.-

  • how did you potty train your black lab? I recently got a 8 week old black lab that pees a lot and we do put him on the pads but he still seems to miss by an inch.

  • awww.... what a smart friend... I love it.

  • I have a labrador (marley) and he is so CUTE!

  • I have a black lab and he is really smart I -3 Buddy

  • instead of using a clicker couldn't you just click your tongue?

  • anyone know what the clicking does?

  • @bidcar87 It's just a training method. She associates the clicker with getting food. It's basically letting her know immediately that she's done something correctly and then it's followed up with a treat.

  • @bidcar87 its a bad habit

  • awesome!

  • I have a black lab with the same name and its just as cute.

  • We have a black lab who is pretty well trained (no where close to yours ;)) but he keeps jumping on people. we try training him but that isn't coming very easily to him. Any tips?

  • We have a black lab. He's a goof. Nowhere near as smart and well-trained as your little girl!! Enjoy her!

  • the clicking is conditional right?

  • Are they good dogs for family?

  • @OfficialJimmyD I have a black lab and 2 children. He is by far the best dog that I have ever had. He is calm, patient, obedient and playful. He knows when it's time to play and when it's not. Our 2-year old is kind of rough on him (sometimes pulls his ears, feet or tail) and our dog just sits there and takes it. He has never even offered to be aggressive. We also have a 5 month old and he lays next to her whenever she is not in her room with the door closed. He lets us know when she cries too.

  • 0:20 - 0:30 literally made me smile at my computer

  • She's adorable!!! I love how she waits for you to say ok before eating the food!

  • black labs are very loyal

  • Dog can do all that what is so smart about that?

  • Just a bit of advice ,

if you want your dog coat to be shiny , put a raw egg in her / his bowl , i do it all the time for my black lab , and she loves it , its very good for them and it makes there coat really shiny and glossy and healthy lookin , but dont it everyday , like monday and wednesday etc !! Xxx hope it works out for you , By the way your really good at training X my dog can do , sit , down , rollover , wave , highfive , Shes very clever X good luck

  • awwwwwwwwwwwww the lab is sooooooooooooooooo cuuuuuuuuuuuuut

  • I want to get one but the problem is my parents work and i got school so there isn't much time....anyone have suggestions? i really want one

  • @mcoco2009 They have doggie day cares, but you have to have the money for them. It's not like a kennel. They get plenty of exercise.

  • I have a Black Lab and he can do roll over , sit ,down, off, stay, leave it, and lotsss more!! (i dont mean to bragg) oh and paw other paw and now lots more

  • @TheNinjaAlien I have one and you would point your finger and him/her and say no, or if she/he is just about to take the food just say , it in a quiet voice and then IT in a louder voice.

  • what can i feed my lab pup he is 10 weeks old but is not very food motivated...nor is he toy/affection motivated...

  • how made it a have a same puppie teachme

  • You are doing a great job training your puppy!

  • @SullivanOlssen Thanks :)

  • awww :D

  • very impressed.

i must add that it makes me happy to see people treating their animals right, because this training in effect keeps the animal out of trouble which lessens the amount of times you have to tell it off, prople forget that when a dog misbehaves its sortof your own responsibility too.

  • @sassymonsterO Thanks!

  • @sassymonsterO not even sort of, when it misbehaves it's 100% your responsibility. :) proper training is a key to a happy dog, and community.

  • @betinamontana It'll be harder, but with proper motivation and positive reinforcement, I think so!

  • That's really neat, I'm about to purchuse an 8 week old black lab. He hasn't has any training, is it still possible to dicipline him like that? Any tips for a first time pup owner?

  • @srhead69 We didn't get Midnight until she was 8 weeks old (they shouldn't be separated from their mothers until then). They learn very quickly- the most important thing is to use positive reinforcement and to be consistent and patient!!

  • ah, so cute :D i want a labrador puppy! ;D

  • The thing about Labradors is that they like praise so be sure to award him/her with a treat when he/she does what you want.

  • Black lab named Midnight!

    What a cute name 8DDD

  • COOOL!!

I ALSO HAVE A BLACK LAB NAME MIDNIGHT :D

BUT SHE DOESNT KNOW AS MANY TRICKS :)

  • Labs are the BEST!

  • @speedracer234 They sure are. I only have six lol.

  • how old was Midnight when this was filmed? How did you make her focus like that when she was young?

  • I hope to to be able to train my little 8 week old black lab puppy like this, at what age did you start to train her ?

  • @musicalsgal2007 The clicking sound is from a clicker- it can be used during training (the clicking lets them know they've done something right- it's faster than a "good girl").

  • How is this done, my 11 week lab mix, also black, is playful, not a big hassle but I'm afraid he will be once he is older.

  • my lab/collie is only 9 weeks he knows sit,lay down, even grabs the rope when i say tug a war but just cant seem to get the "stay" down any tips?

  • You can try to treat often while she's staying (so it's fun for her), and start with very short intervals of a couple seconds. Then lengthen the time you treat. Good luck!

  • @dase4321

I have a 7 week old labrador and she has already learned to stay. Just tell her to SIT and than you tell her STAY couple of times and throw a treat on the ground, at first you can hold her by a collar until you say OK, after a couple of times you will be able to let go her collar and just say STAY and OK!

  • Clicker trainning?

  • This is great. Did you use any training program or books? Also, where did you get your lab? I am looking for one and this one looks phenomenal!

  • Thanks! We love her! The best training book we read is called "How to Teach A New Dog Old Tricks"- really invaluable. For an illustrated book for tricks- "101 Dog Tricks" is a good one. We spend quite a lot of time in the beginning training her, and she's really smart so she picked it up fast :) She's from Wisconsin- if you'd like to know the breeder's name, I can send you a message. Thanks for watching!

  • @stephacorn

Just wanted to know what tlhe breeder's name is so I could possibly purchase.

  • omg soooo cutteee

  • I wish my lab puppy had been that easy to train, she was a terror. This one is totally focused. Nice work.

  • Thats great, was she hard to train at all? Does using clicking help?

  • We all watch the film (Janice, Richard, Nassrin and Yahya)

    Excellent Job.

  • Man, she's much smarter than the Beags....
