  • Remember gain helps in finding the sweet spot

  • That long pinch harmonic was filthy and sexy <3

  • Thanks a lot for these videos, this one and the Motorcycle guitar trick gave me a couple new things to experiment around with.

  • I've never been able to get a good look at how to do it, this really helped!

  • @pyromaniac344 I was just about to write the same ;)

  • what's the song?

  • Are you using EMG pickups? Do they make any difference?

  • @tiagodon

Well the EMGs are great pickups and you certainly can get pinch harmonics with them, but those are just stock SG pickups. Any set of nice humbuckers will do the trick. You can get these the single coils to, but not quite as easily.

  • @DiscoverGuitarOnline Thanks. I really dont know how you do it. I can do pinch harmonics, but not as round and compressed as yours (specially on the E and A strings). What would be your main advice?

  • @tiagodon retard. obviouslt not emgs.

  • i thought the first example was the slow one....

  • it really wont come out loud and pretty with you have shitty pick ups, deal with it

  • i dont know but i think that i got it xD . im gonna find my guitar now . i dont know where it is ahaaha .

  • could this work on a fender stratocaster with regular stock pickups?

  • @DrSpinner1

You can do it, but you really need to crank up the gain.

  • @DiscoverGuitarOnline ok thanks :D

  • @DrSpinner1 When you are good you can do it with clean...;) i play a fender too and it works

  • In soviet, Russia, Harmonics Pinchs you!!!

  • @omenofwonders I don't get it ... I'm not Russian. Explain, comrade?

  • @SystemJammer It means things are backwards in soviet russia, its a joke.

  • @ollyjackoff

I'm going to turn it into a "practice lick" and will post it at the website sometime in the near future.

    thanks!

    Dan

  • it sounds best when you do it right over the neck pick up

  • What are the pickups on sg you are using ?

  • @MrHeavysteel tbh, I don't know they are called. They came stock in this SG. I believe it's an 05

  • @DiscoverGuitarOnline Probably humbuckers, damn it sounds good.

  • @MrHeavysteel

oh yeah, they're humbuckers. I just don't know the name/model. and thanks, I do like this SG quite a bit.

  • name of the song?

  • @rufus4880

well. it's just something I threw together to have an intro for the vid. I may turn it into "practice riff" lesson though.

  • I have a question: Can i sing a pinch harmonic with overdrive or distors?

  • what pedal ?

  • What song is that

  • For some reason I can't pinch on the lower strings, like any other strings I can get pinch harmonics, but the thicker it gets it's harder

  • @bigdak54 yea same here man. I play a lot of Van Halen and every so often he does use some of those lower string pinch harmonics and it get frustrating. just practice practice practice (like you've never heard that before hahaha)

  • don't use the vibrato then you et ZZ Top style pinch harmonics :)

  • If the guitar isn't in drop d tuning how do you get the same effect? Such as in Mr. Tinkertrain?

  • @Aminiphus

    It's in Drop D

  • @DiscoverGuitarOnline What i was meaning was, can you still get the same effect in standard tuning?

  • @Aminiphus

Oh sorry!..... yeah you can get it pretty close.

  • @DiscoverGuitarOnline Ok, thank you so much!

  • @DiscoverGuitarOnline iz tat a robot guitar

  • @Aminiphus in standart tuning tho is a bit harder to make that bend

  • @Aminiphus It become harder to get it without Drop tunings.

  • @Aminiphus Atcually it works better in drop tunings. well it works better for me... try it on :-)

  • Hey what string do you recommend? i find it hard to do on fat strings

  • i gusse you must go to listen a guy call Gaku playing Bark At The Moon. from Youtube . he's playing real zakk wylde style Pinch Harmonics

  • got the same gibson sg

  • wyf, how do u do that on the low E string. I cant get a decent sound in the lower 2 octaves

  • can u plz email me the tabs for that riff in thebegginning it sound awsome plz

  • how do you get your guitar to sound like that?

  • I suppose you need high-output pickups for that.

  • what song is this at the beginning?

  • @B3LTRAN89

Just a little riff I made up for the intro.

  • @DiscoverGuitarOnline

You shoukd write out the tab

  • @DiscoverGuitarOnline do you have tabs for it ;d

  • @FlapSkate

if you mean the riff..... maybe I'll make a riff video out of it. Show you how to play it and have the tab. If I see people are interested in that, I will do it.

    thanks,

    Dan

  • un pinche harmonic

  • well apperently you play a note with your pick and then slightly touch the string with your thumb. Doing a pinch harmonic on a certain area on the string (even with the same note) can give a different sound

  • TABS PLEAZZE :D

  • is there certain equipment requirements to do this or does it matter

  • It´s easier if you use high output humbuckers with generous amounts of gain.

  • Different guitars have different sweet spots...you jus have to find your guitars vagina and finger it.

  • I got into an argument with someone about guitars having different "sweet spots" for harmonics. He called me an idiot and said all guitars play the pinch harmonic in the same exact area.

  • Different scale lengths and the position of the pickups on the guitar will slightly move 'best' position to do a pinch strike with the right hand.

  • Yeah thats ridiculous.

  • thats a real great way to put lol

  • haha nice good one!:DD

  • @tron1xceo

    sweet analogy

  • @tron1xceo that is by far the best way to describe it well done

  • @tron1xceo Jesus that is the greatest guitar comment I have ever heard. I commend you sir.

  • @tron1xceo 69 likes :P

  • @tron1xceo VERY WELL PUT MY FRIEND!

  • @tron1xceo

nice comment dude If I was a chick i'd be horny now

  • can you send me tabs?

  • It's just something I made up for the vid. I might turn it in to a song and/ or riff lesson.

    Thanks

  • my guitar wont do this for some reason

  • It takes practice. Some heavy distortion helps as well.

What kind of guitar do you have?

  • bridge pickup, angle ur pick :) lots of treble

  • Correction lots of GAIN

  • just another bit of advice, you have to barely, barely touch the string and you need a good amount of distortion. Also it helps a lot to have your tone up high with your pickup selector set for the higher sounds.

  • its not the guitar

  • 99% chance its you.

  • drop it down to D...well it doesnt really matter you can still do it in standard but the sound your most likely lookin for is in drop d. crank max gain and play out of your bridge pick up and you will get it man...wont be done over night.

  • it took me about week and a half to get it done right, i do it when playing often now, sounds awesome in drop d

  • I made a comment on how i couldnt do these on low notes a long time ago, there one of the main things i do now! lol

  • i heard somewhere that zakk uses his wah to help get that sound. how does that work?

  • he probably turns it on and then doesn't work it but just lets it stay in one position where that sound comes out best

  • Zakk also uses the Boss Chorus Ensemble to Help more with the Vibrato.

Whats your rig setup I bet you have this in your fx chain

  • whats the song

  • is it esier to do pinch harmonics with active pickups?

  • easier with hot pickups they dont have to be active

but active pickups are usually hot

  • yeah i can do them ok, im using seymore dunkans, but iv learned that it is a bit harder to do them playing out of a fender g-dec

  • yes it is --> more gain.

  • is a rotovibe pedal easier to do zakk's pinches?

  • Not really but it adds a lot to the fullness of the tone

  • no a wah wah is easier

  • I can do pinched harmonics perfect on high strings, but on 5th and 6th, I don't get muc sound...

  • Keep practicing.

  • also it helps to tune your guitar down 1 or 2 steps. easier to do them. Or get higher output pickups and turn distortion up to 11!!!!

  • get EMG's

  • Try increasing the gain a little on your distortion.

  • hey thats weird i can do pinched armonics perfectly on lower strings but no so much in higher strings =P

  • its the opposite for me and its driving me crazy. i just cant get that sound like in this video

  • me too;S

  • hey man nice playing!

got a question, here it is:

Does the sound of the Pinch Harmonics also depends on the pickup you use, i mean, everybody say that its only the technique. but im able to create pinch harmonics on each string but it doesn´t really sound nice...thanks!!

    greetings

  • You'll discover that you need some distortion and some powerful mics to get that scream. Try to do it with an acoustic guitar, you will barely hear it :P Of course, the technique is something to practice on for a while.

  • yeah, It's the same technique.

  • what song is this?

  • Just something I made up for the vid. thanks,

    Dan

  • omg thx....... before i had toal hope for this.

but now i can do it correcty.... or almost

  • just find the right place to do the pinch harmonic.. its not hard after a coupld days of practice in the spot you want. i dont know why they call it a "zakk wilde" harmonic, when every pinch harmonic 1mm or less before or after a certian pickup sounds almost or excactly like "zakks" lol wut ever

  • read the description.

  • i cant get this right wtf am i doing wrong!

  • how do you manage to get it to sound right every time?

i can never really get it spot on every time

  • yeah same here

  • practice practice practice

  • find the sweet spot for your picukups, depeneding on whether you have emg's, or just single coil pickups, the sweet spot will be different.

  • is it harder to do on bigger string guages?

  • actually depends...

i do think its easier but i drop tune mine to drop A so maybe thats why but it depends on what you do...

but its kinda hard to wide vibrato it sometimes...

    but its all practice

  • awesome, but is not easy to do =/

  • awesome

  • short and sweet!

  • nice man !
