Well the EMGs are great pickups and you certainly can get pinch harmonics with them, but those are just stock SG pickups. Any set of nice humbuckers will do the trick. You can get these the single coils to, but not quite as easily.
@DiscoverGuitarOnline Thanks. I really dont know how you do it. I can do pinch harmonics, but not as round and compressed as yours (specially on the E and A strings). What would be your main advice?
@bigdak54 yea same here man. I play a lot of Van Halen and every so often he does use some of those lower string pinch harmonics and it get frustrating. just practice practice practice (like you've never heard that before hahaha)
if you mean the riff..... maybe I'll make a riff video out of it. Show you how to play it and have the tab. If I see people are interested in that, I will do it.
well apperently you play a note with your pick and then slightly touch the string with your thumb. Doing a pinch harmonic on a certain area on the string (even with the same note) can give a different sound
I got into an argument with someone about guitars having different "sweet spots" for harmonics. He called me an idiot and said all guitars play the pinch harmonic in the same exact area.
just another bit of advice, you have to barely, barely touch the string and you need a good amount of distortion. Also it helps a lot to have your tone up high with your pickup selector set for the higher sounds.
drop it down to D...well it doesnt really matter you can still do it in standard but the sound your most likely lookin for is in drop d. crank max gain and play out of your bridge pick up and you will get it man...wont be done over night.
Does the sound of the Pinch Harmonics also depends on the pickup you use, i mean, everybody say that its only the technique. but im able to create pinch harmonics on each string but it doesn´t really sound nice...thanks!!
You'll discover that you need some distortion and some powerful mics to get that scream. Try to do it with an acoustic guitar, you will barely hear it :P Of course, the technique is something to practice on for a while.
just find the right place to do the pinch harmonic.. its not hard after a coupld days of practice in the spot you want. i dont know why they call it a "zakk wilde" harmonic, when every pinch harmonic 1mm or less before or after a certian pickup sounds almost or excactly like "zakks" lol wut ever
Remember gain helps in finding the sweet spot

Different scale lengths and the position of the pickups on the guitar will slightly move 'best' position to do a pinch strike with the right hand.

he probably turns it on and then doesn't work it but just lets it stay in one position where that sound comes out best

easier with hot pickups they dont have to be active
but active pickups are usually hot

yeah i can do them ok, im using seymore dunkans, but iv learned that it is a bit harder to do them playing out of a fender g-dec

also it helps to tune your guitar down 1 or 2 steps. easier to do them. Or get higher output pickups and turn distortion up to 11!!!!
