@nggdsb "to the chance", yes. The healthier you are, the less you expose yourself to harmful radiation and toxic elements, the less likely you are to develop cancer. Basically zero chance if you do it well.
@ChrisL101 Doesn't look healthy? An old man of 60+, has all his hair still with some color, is at his perfect weight for his size, he's shown his own blood levels are at healthy levels, he clearly still has full cognitive function as well. Not to mention travels the country giving lectures and still works full time, clearly is still vibrant and energetic.
Yup, seems to me he is very unhealthy. Especially for being an old old man.
Non vegans are usually dead before 50 or ARE vegetables. :/
@ACLogikel Wow, vegan fuelled dogma at it's finest. Congrats, I now have a weeks fill of BS from one youtube comment. Dead before 50, really? Can you back that up? All his hair? Seriously? We're brong with a receding hairline now huh... Some colour left in there too huh, sure looks grey to me but whatever.... Non vegans are usually dead by 50, LOL, get a grip.
@ChrisL101 you don't have to listen to him. Do what you want. If you don't like it don't watch. Eat drink and be merry! But, the truth is the truth whether you believe it or not.
@dvorakfan1 The truth is the truth, and I'm a seeker of truth. Health & wellness is my passion, as is Dr. McDougall's. But, you are free to do what you want, as I previously stated. I'm not trying to convert you. I know how good I feel on this diet, and I hope for others to feel this good also, but I don't care if you change or not.
From 3:12 to 4:23, he's contradicting the whole concept.
At first he says "Soy INCREASES IGF1 levels", but then those people used in research were big soy consumers following soy diets and at the same time VEGANS and didn't raise any IGF1 levels. Doesn't make sense. Perhaps he would like to say "Soy IN CONJUNCTION WITH DAIRY increases IGF1 levels".
Correct me anybody if he was trying to say it differently. Please and Thank you!
@FashionRawkz He was saying that dairy consumption raises IGF1 more than consuming soy does. Later in the video, he's discussing Isolated soy protein, which is a little different from simply "consuming soy." Consuming soy protein isolate not only increases IGF1 levels, but demineralizes the bones as well.
@1imesub Oh thank you, I appreciate that. So basically, you're saying that it's the ISOLATED SOY PROTEIN AND DAIRY which makes all the difference. But I figured that isolated soy protein gives me better weight management and is equally, if not MORE effective than regular whey protein.
@FashionRawkz Protein powders are not good for you. I certainly wasn't recommending soy protein. High protein intake causes all kinds of problems, including calcium loss/bone demineralization. Try spirulina for extra protein. It's not an isolate like soy and whey, it's a natural source, and is very rich in vitamins and minerals.
The thing is, IGF-1 is very strong and specific at how it binds and stimulates. On the other hand, IGF 2-6 are progressively less specific, and you should worry about those than IGF1.
I was recently tested for the IGF-1 level. My level turned out to be 46. Is this harmful for a 35 year old woman? The normal range starts from 113. What should I do? Should I supplement this hormone or not?
The thing these guys don't tell you about IGF-1 and cancer is that this only happens when the IGF-1 isolated and extracted and taken in an "unnatural" form. If you drink lots of milk or take colostrum supplements which are high in IGF-1 you aren't going to get cancer.
Now I am confused. I started taking deer velvet supplements, which are promoted on account of their IGF-1, but they have used it in China for ages as a health tonic.
Anyway, I noticed all sorts of positive effects to how I felt. My energy levels went up, it regularized my menstrual cycle, lost weight easier.
My ex was taking them and has polyarthritis and also noticed benefits, and when he told his arthritis doctor, she told him she had several patients report similar results.
I'm interested in new, updated research. I wasn't even 5 years ago that we decided to change the food pyramid because it was off. This was close to 6 years ago, I wouldn't be surprised if he turned around and say that's the best thing to happen.
I've been on IGF-1 LR3 for months now, bodybuilding. It was difficult to put on muscle, and post workout, 100mcg bi-laterally in my biceps have proven to greatly increase my muscle mass, all around. The benefits go far beyond muscle mass.. My focus has gotten much better, I can remember things clearly that used to be difficult. I also used to have extremely high blood pressure and heart palpitations.. IGF-1 Lr3 has rebuilt my heart, no more HBP and no more chest pains. Get gear through Rui.
@FortSmithNow Really? McDougall has amazing science to support what he is saying.. if you have problem putting on muscle then you have the wrong training regiment. Add in more rest instead of increasing your risk of cancers and other diseases. Increase your diet to 80+ % carbs, and less than 10% fat and protein.. eat 10 grams of carbs pr body kilo and get enough sleep and rest between your workouts, then you get both health and fitness without sacrificing either. =)
@Mekelsior You're still putting your trust in a complete newbie. Listen, I can look up anything I want on the Internet and come to any conclusion that I want. You, and Dr Dumbass, obviously only listen to the misinformation. Damn near everything he says is the complete opposite of reality. It's also very clear you know nothing, personally, about this subject, so keep your mouth shut until you do your own research.
@FortSmithNow Using IGF-1 for bodybuilding is as unfortunate as using steroids - the results you achieve will come at a cost which you will realize later when your health suffers. You need to understand the science behind this. You do not need supplements in order to obtain good athletic results; there are many top athletes who understand what Dr. McDougall is talking about and who eat a healthy, balanced vegan diet.
@Nutrition4Life001 You talk a lot for someone who has done no personal research. I have some snake oil I could sell you, interested? You're a useless, clueless, uneducated faggot. You come talk to me when you're not tugging on someone else's pant legs.
P.S. there are copious studies that have shown an increase in blood calcium levels (as when you drink milk) causes an increase in calcitonin which inturn counters the effects of parathyroid hormone (PTH). Due to PTH being a tonic hormone; which causes resorbtion of bone(i.e. increase Ca blood levels) the countering of results in increase bone density and allows for bone growth. Contrary to the stupid point that was raised at 5:10.
@nbm666 "...causes 'resorbtion' of bone the countering of results in increase bone density and allows for bone growth." It's called resorption and you're wrong. You act like what you said is a good thing when it's not too. High blood calcium is not normal. Hypercalcemia is the most common life threatening disorder that is associated with cancer. You can get Sarcoidosis, Milk-Alkali Syndrome, Paget's Disease,
hyperparathyroidism, etc.
Drinking too much milk does increase blood calcium tho.
@nbm666 IGF-1 regulates cell growth, development and division; it can stimulate growth in both normal and cancerous cells. Even small increases in serum levels of IGF-1 in humans are associated with increased risk for several common cancers including cancers of the breast, prostate, lung and colon (Wu et al., 2002).The link between IGF-1 and cancer is becoming increasingly apparent in the scientific literature.
Ina prospective study investigating the relationship between the risk of breast
@nbm666 cancer and circulating IGF-1 levels, researchers at Harvard Medical School analyzed blood samples originally collected from 32,826 women during 1989-1990. 397 women were later diagnosed with breast cancer. Analysis of IGF-1 levels in samples collected from these women compared to samples from 620 controls (without breast cancer) revealed a positive relationship between circulating IGF-1 levels and the risk of breast cancer among premenopausal (but not postmenopausal) women.
I consume 4l of dairy daily and my igf-1 is bottom of the range. Every one is different and we cant draw conclusions for everyone based on such little evidence.
There is so much evidence that milk shouldnt be in your body that it would take you months of research in order to cover the entire issue. The most alergenic food on earth.
Cancer is ALWAYS a risk when you abuse of something, and even then it still a RISK. So it doesn't mean that if somene take over than 120mcg of long r3 igf-1 per day for a year that he will have a cancer. He will probably not.
@l1998 i sometimes use igf-1 and i can tell you it helps me lift 400lbs over my head.yea i feel young and strong lets see dr mc try to put 100lbs over his head
@MicahLeviClark It is good in the early stages of life when we need to grow from a child to an adult, but when it is constantly added into the diet when you would otherwise not be drinking mothers milk, it increase your risk of getting cancer. =)
we need to grow muscles and soft tissue constantly throughout life otherwise they will atrophy. If you don't use IGF for normal growth it will turn into cancerous growth. This guy is clueless
ok so these big soy consuming vegans are 13%lower in serum igf than regular meat eaters, and yet the soy concentrate increased the igf almost twice as much over milk concentrate,at first it sounds like the vegans are the heroes due to soy and then it 180s to say soy is bad?am i missing something here or is this all a complete load of contradictory crap?did the soy downregulate the vegans hormones?this makes no sense 2 me altho i am quite intoxicated atm
So, if you're not supposed to eat much dairy, and you're not supposed to eat much isolated soy protein, what (other than meat) do you eat to insure you get complete protein?
@zenmachinefilms If you eat enough plant based foods through out the day there is no way you will be deficient in protein. (fruits, veg, nuts, seeds, beans, sprouts etc) I asked the same question myself once..(I realized after being in hospital i was completely brain washed and so were my docs) I took a step back and asked myself..."why aren't we concerned with magnesium, potassium, phosphorus etc.?) People only seem to ask about calcium and protein....enough proof that we are all brain washed.
The soy bean can promote more tumour growth because majority of them are genetically modified.....which are like aliens invading our bodies....our body doesn't know what to do with this foreign substance so our cells treat them as waste or toxic so the cancer cells can feed off this also....cancer cells feed off of acidic toxic waste.
IGF-1 promotes cells growth yes..but there is also the underlying problem that needs to be considered (cell damage)There has to be cell damage before this IGF-1 factor comes into play into growing tumours etc faster. We need IGF-1 to grow yes,but once too much damage has been done and we consume too much of the wrong and not enough of the good;that is when the cells get out of control (moderation indeed) Carcinogens provide the gun...bad nutrition (toxicity and deficiency) pulls the trigger.
This guy has no idea what he is talking about. Soy has been proven for decades that it promotes increased estrogen levels, which in turn increases the chance of breast cancer. However, milk from cows who have been fed with hormones also is a cause for breast cancer. Thus, he is wrong only on the fact that soy is a suitable supplement to dairy. Soy has been proven to be more harmful to women than dairy.
@tenntitan70 You need to listen to this video again. He does say that SOY IS NOT a healthy or good replacement to Dairy because it doubles the effect of IGF-1 in humans. He said that this was a long transition for him but realized that after these studies showed that SOY is as bad and even worse than dairy in how it effects the human growth factor, especially in concentrated amounts.
Great, now I'm confused as hell. Is there a difference between isolated soy protein and regular soy protein? Like if I drink organic soy milk which has 6 grams of protein a glass is that bad? Or only like fake protein from protein bars and shakes and stuff is bad?
I've done a ton of stuff to help me live longer, but to be honest, it comes to a point where I feel like fuck it, I'm going to die anyway. I don't expect to live past the age of 29 anyway.
wait i dont get it.. so when stallone takes hgh he looks younger and buffer, but when mice dont take hgh they look younger and live longer? wait so hgh, an anti aging peptide will make me look older faster?
@ I don't know where you get your information, but soy is a damn plant. Plants make animal hormones? Special ed, estrogen are only made by vertebral animals. Soy has estrogen-like compounds called phytoestrogens. Almost all plants make phyosetrogens! Soy had a higher amount of the comopund, but fermentation lowers the content a lot. Most soy food has fermented soy. Some scientists believe that plants make phytoestrogens as a defense mechanism to stop or limit predation by plant-eating animals.
@Problems caused when the body produces too much GHThe most common disease of GH excess is a pituitary tumor composed of somatotroph cells of the anterior pituitary.
BST is naturally occurring in cattle, and plays a role in the growth and development of the organism. The artificial bovine growth hormone injected into cows can mimic naturally Human GH. It can increase levels of IGF
and have secondary effects, e.g. the increased use of antibiotics to treat mastitis in cows.
@TheJovanist Flavonoids like phytosetrogens are responsible for the yellow, red, white, and blue pigments in plants. That means they're apples, peas, corn, etc. Phytoestrogesn are considered by most dietitians & physicians useful in preventing cancer. Only if you eat an excess of nonfermented soy will there be probably some hormonal effect. But studies have shown that if it does happen, it is only minor.
If anything a major concern, it's dairy. Dairy plays a major role in hormone-dependent
@TheJovanist It HAS estrogens that are 100,000x more potent than any other estrogen-like compounds. All the unsubstantiated, biased information & junk science that you read is ridiculous. These studies bashing soy tend to be funded by the crooked dairy industry. All the scare mongering and propaganda against soy easily fooled you. These studies are meant to scare people into buy milk instead of soy.
Dairy contributes to major health problems. Cows are milked about 300 days/yr. For much of that
@TheJovanist time, they are pregnant. The later in pregnancy, the more hormones appear in her milk. Milk from a cow in the late stage of pregnancy contains up to 33 times as much of a signature estrogen compound than milk from a non-pregnant cow.
According to Harvard School of Public Health Nutrition Source, ''There's no good evidence that consuming more than one serving of milk per day in addition to a reasonable diet (which typically provides about 300 milligrams of calcium per day in
@TheJovanist day from nondairy sources) will reduce fracture risk. Because of unresolved concerns about the risk of ovarian and prostate cancer, it may be prudent to avoid higher intake of dairy..'' No reputable study has shown that cow milk promotes bone health and calcium absorption. The people working for the FDA promote milk into to get their cut from their con game. dairy ind has a stronghold of over official FDA nutrition guidelines. the intentions are only on behalf of special interest.
It is too bad that none of these studies show if there is any difference if the dairy products were not pasteurized. The dairy products consumed today have been denatured by pasteurization. None of these studies mean anything when they continue to refuse to include non-pasteurized dairy as an alternative.
every study says the lifespan of vegans are much the same as meat eaters ,only lacto-ovo vegetarians live longer. people over 100years old are all proud of their sheep ,goat ,donkey etc. milk. just google it...i accept maybe for a chinese it's different, but caucasians domesticated the goat over 10000years ago for milk....i was vegan but never again ,i feel much better with my goaats milk and prob higher IGF-1...
@8peterp hey goat milk man! the reason lifespan comparisons aren't that spectacularly different is that most vegans damage their bodies with animal products for the first two or three decades of their lives. so it's not a fair comparison of the diets.
@8peterp Caucasians domesticated the goat over 10,000 years ago for milk? No they didn't domesticate them for the milk. they started probably to drink goat milk until around 6,000-7,000 years ago. But, it was uncommon to live past 40 years old when your perverted, bestiality-liking ancestors were drinking cow & goat milk. Dairy & goat milk isn't healthy for anyone. It's acid-forming, which causes urinary calcium. It has more than 20 different proteins which inhibits iron absorption. And so on.
@gongoozler18 Reason why they didnt live that long was due to the harsh environment of warring tribes and sun worship who often resorted to sacrificing thousands of people, such as the opening of the aztec temple in old capital in Mexico.. (Tenochtitlan or something) 80 000 people were sacrificed.. anyway.. the Aztecs didnt drink milk either. =)
Then there's that goofy slide about tall people mortality & blames it on IGF-1, but not the fact tall people's heart's work harder, they have poorer circulation & are more likely to die from a fall due to their height/mass. Maybe it does indirectly like when you're 12 & grow to be 6'7" but that means nothing to a 5'7" adult.
The study he refers to is on post-menopausal women & how soy helped bone mineralization, which contradicts his comment on calcium loss and soy protein.
In 1 slide he says vegans & vegetarians have lower IGF-1 levels then says soy is 2x as effective as milk & therefore increases the risk of cancer, w/o resolving the contradiction.
1). The control & the SOY group ate an additional 20g of protein of unknown origin & therefore you cannot presume it's soy alone but a combination of soy & other protein.
2). The subjects are post menopausal women who have low levels of IGF1 & may respond more to proteins than other people.

@aronswritingdeskyt . Hey just surfing the web, saw your comment and had to correct you. Hey, so you said " This is stupid " This being Dr. Mcdougall lecturing on IGF-1 absorbed through diet. Then you go on to say The dominant factors are;...poor health, etc." Hey i'm glad for you. Now you know! :D
this is bull shyt, hardly any one eats soy so it how can it be the cause of this chrises, their has been studies that shown that it reduces the risk of many diseases, and one of the diseases it prevented was cancer, and it has all but 1 amino acids
you "heard" goat milk has plenty of IGF-1? strange, because I can't find anything on the internet that says that. I'm not trying to be a smartass, I would just like you to point me in the direction to where you found that info.
@internetFan1 - is it natural? would we have ever eaten it in nature? I was told that beans had lectins in and were not really suitable. Looking at okinawans diet and japanese I was interested in the isoflavonones in soya for better health, and prevention against cancer. Others say it inhibits the thyroid, they consume much seaweed/fish with it, and beans contain enzyme inhibitots etc. others say it is a valuable source of protein, healthier than meat?
yes, soy sprouts are natural (tofu not so much, but is still ok). i do not think that if you eat 2-3 times pro week soy, you could have problems with your thyroid. maybe we should take a look at the china study, the chinese people eat soy every day (not much, but every day)
es, they eat it everyday, but I was lead to believe it was fermented and different to ours, in the fact they they ferment it to get rid of the enzyme inhibitors and others poisons. I agree that all sprouting is natural.
fermented soy (tempeh, miso, soyjoghurt etc.) is a good choice, sprouting is also a good process which gets rid of the enzyme inhibitors and others poisons. That are good soy products (if not gen manipulated).
You are right soy is in a lot of processed foods. Corn and soy are subsidized by the government. . I had eczema for 3 years on my hands and while trying to figure out what the heck was causing it, I learned a lot about the food supply. It ended up being corn. That was when I stopped eating procssed foods. I now eat mostly fresh fruits and veggies.
@angelbe88 - that is excellent and very empowering for you. doctors and professionals do not play half the role compared to what we can do for ourselves (responsibility). Can you advise me how you go about your diet (how it satisfies?). Do you eat fish/meat?
This is crap... Exercise dramatically increases IGF-1. Exercise also has proven- undeniable salbrious effects! Deductive reasoning leads us to believe this is pure crap. Sorry.
Is he saying the British vegans are healthier cuz they have a lower IGF...and at the same time they are big SOY consumers which is supposed to raise the IGF levels....which obviously didn't. He's probably a secret PETA guy.
ok then why does it also reverse againg, create lean body muscle and body fat loss decrease?
one tells us that its the fountain of youth and another insists it kills you. Personally, I think this anti-IGF-1 propoganda is just cannon fodder for nutritionist and vegan lobbyists who want to outlaw animals for food.
yea i have to agree with you first he says that british women whom were vegans had lower IGF levels than the meat eaters, then he says that the 8 year olds on dairy products had higher IGF levels and those whom were eating meat had no increase in IGF levels........sounds a bit odd to me
Dear god he's so stupid, how can you possibly say that promoting cell growth is a negative? The thing about Cancerous cells is they will grow abnormally fast anyway, which is why they call it cancer dumbass! Like having healthy teeth and bones is going to kill you faster!
Well, The cancerous cells are abnormal cells. They will multiple just like any other cell. This is bad because it is an abnormal cell taking over.
You do not want to grow faster because each time a cell duplicates, the tips of the chromosomes get shorter. These are called telomeres. When your telomeres are gone, you are old and dying. So you do not want grow so fast after a certain age.
Good point, however, the speech he's giving is still extreme. The point of a balanced diet is to eat things in moderation! Therefore, cutting out milk completely from a diet is quite a stupid thing to do!
I don't know what to say of his IGF argument, but I know that there is no really good reason for a person to be drinking milk. I think its fine, but if you find that you have some stomach problems or acne problems or yeast infections or something, then you need to stop drinking milk. There's no benefit in milk that you cannot get from an even BETTER resource.
Would you as a human, opt to drink horse's milk? rat's milk? elephant's milk? Then WHY cow's milk? Could it be that this is simply because of our cultural and historical indoctrination?
Are you willing to reexamine commonly your accepted beliefs? Do some research and learn to question the norm.
PS check out The China Study - highly respected researcher presents extensive studies concerning milk proteins and incidence of diseases.
One should grow rapidly during childhood, being an Adult one should grow at a particular rate, but things like what he is mentioning make our cells grow rapidly and makes things weird.. our goes in a shock mode.. without understanding what to do, and randomly makes certain organs grow..leading to Cancer..and many other factors..he is right about his point
Milk will increase your risks of almost all diseases of affluence which we fear today including cancer and heart disease, so most likely kill you faster.
Milk will increase the risk of these things, but so does a lot of other things. How many other worse carcinogens can we count in our society today....everyone is scared that this and that will cause cancer. The sun causes cancer, but what can we do about that? I think that only drinking extremely excessive amounts of milk will "kill you faster." if it is consumed in moderation, most likely one would die faster from other diseases than drinking milk. If its not milk, then it'll be something else!
on wiki it says IGF-1 deficiency is associated with short life span, cross reference it.

@nggdsb umm thats completely wrong, you've generalized the entire video then took that out of context.
Its when the body overproduces IGF-1 that the likelihood of cancer is increased substantially.
Also, being a very large and complex organism, we are predisposed to the chance of developing cancer cells some time in our life.

@JimITheBanDit So, all 6,840,507,000 people in the world are predisposed to having cancer?

The thing is, IGF-1 is very strong and specific at how it binds and stimulates. On the other hand, IGF 2-6 are progressively less specific, and you should worry about those than IGF1.

The thing these guys don't tell you about IGF-1 and cancer is that this only happens when the IGF-1 isolated and extracted and taken in an "unnatural" form. If you drink lots of milk or take colostrum supplements which are high in IGF-1 you aren't going to get cancer.
elrocktomic 7 months ago
Now I am confused. I started taking deer velvet supplements, which are promoted on account of their IGF-1, but they have used it in China for ages as a health tonic.
Anyway, I noticed all sorts of positive effects to how I felt. My energy levels went up, it regularized my menstrual cycle, lost weight easier.
My ex was taking them and has polyarthritis and also noticed benefits, and when he told his arthritis doctor, she told him she had several patients report similar results.

4: Is this Drug/Pill accessible by everyone who has the money to buy it?

@FortSmithNow Using IGF-1 for bodybuilding is as unfortunate as using steroids - the results you achieve will come at a cost which you will realize later when your health suffers. P.S. there are copious studies that have shown an increase in blood calcium levels (as when you drink milk) causes an increase in calcitonin which inturn counters the effects of parathyroid hormone (PTH). Due to PTH being a tonic hormone; which causes resorbtion of bone(i.e. increase Ca blood levels) the countering of results in increase bone density and allows for bone growth. Contrary to the stupid point that was raised at 5:10.
This video is a bit of a sham if you ask me.
nbm666 10 months ago
@nbm666 "...causes 'resorbtion' of bone the countering of results in increase bone density and allows for bone growth." It's called resorption and you're wrong. You act like what you said is a good thing when it's not too. High blood calcium is not normal. Hypercalcemia is the most common life threatening disorder that is associated with cancer. You can get Sarcoidosis, Milk-Alkali Syndrome, Paget's Disease,
hyperparathyroidism, etc.
Drinking too much milk does increase blood calcium tho.
johnny75803 9 months ago
@nbm666 IGF-1 regulates cell growth, development and division; it can stimulate growth in both normal and cancerous cells. Even small increases in serum levels of IGF-1 in humans are associated with increased risk for several common cancers including cancers of the breast, prostate, lung and colon (Wu et al., 2002).The link between IGF-1 and cancer is becoming increasingly apparent in the scientific literature.

Soy has been proven to be more harmful to women than dairy.
tenntitan70 1 year ago
@tenntitan70 You need to listen to this video again. He does say that SOY IS NOT a healthy or good replacement to Dairy because it doubles the effect of IGF-1 in humans.

Maybe it does indirectly like when you're 12 & grow to be 6'7" but that means nothing to a 5'7" adult.

Thisara2350 2 years ago
Well, The cancerous cells are abnormal cells. They will multiple just like any other cell. This is bad because it is an abnormal cell taking over.
You do not want to grow faster because each time a cell duplicates, the tips of the chromosomes get shorter. These are called telomeres. When your telomeres are gone, you are old and dying. So you do not want grow so fast after a certain age.

Isn't IGF-1 a protein hormone, hence 100% digested by the stomach, as opposed to being a steroid hormone?

Milk will increase your risks of almost all diseases of affluence which we fear today including cancer and heart disease, so most likely kill you faster.

Milk will increase the risk of these things, but so does a lot of other things. How many other worse carcinogens can we count in our society today....everyone is scared that this and that will cause cancer. The sun causes cancer, but what can we do about that? I think that only drinking extremely excessive amounts of milk will "kill you faster." if it is consumed in moderation, most likely one would die faster from other diseases than drinking milk. If its not milk, then it'll be something else!

@Kekekekinky The more milk you drink will increase normal tissue (muscle, bone) and will also increase diseased tissue (cancer - if any)
