is it just me or does songs have WAY more meaning in different Laugages? :') this is Beautiful. I just got done watching the Actual Romeo and Juliet in english class, and this anime came to mind. I watched it awhile back and Loved it, i cried at the end:) such a Beautiful story.

I watched the last episode and I was bawling my eyes out. This was a beautiful anime and I loved it.
I only hope that the real play can make me feel the same as this anime. (Still hasn't read the play, but wants to really badly. T.T -_-)

When I had heard of this show, I thought it was going to be really lame. But I was pleasantly surprised to get an incredible re-imagining of the original play. It has all of the same themes as the original; Blood, Honor, Forbidden love, and most of all Tragedy. Which is what R&J is. It has a fantasy setting, unlike the play. But if you look beyond the liberties you'll find an emotionally soaring re telling of a tale of star-crossed love.
OH MY GOD! Goosebumps! this song always reminded me of the last part, the fight scenes and Romeo wanting to save Juliet but in the end Juliet sees Romeo dying on the ground and decides to follow her destiny, sacrificing herself to save everyone in Neo Verona. DAMN Neo Verona! Why didn't the 2 of you lived somewhere in California!
ahhhhhhhhhhh i love this anime e especially because J Micheal Tatum has 3 big main parts he plays William's voice and he does the preview of the next episode and he's a director of some sort !!!!!! he's pretty important such a good carrier

you dont understand. i just blindly started watching the anime, so when i first heard the opening i was like "hmm...sound fami-WTF!?!?!? You raise me up~" i started singing along then when the ending finished i paused it and then freaked out and showed my family XD
it feels like to me that romeo and juliet is the only time i saw that the main two people who are in love dies (except titanic) cuz usually its like ..happily ever after o_o anyway it makes it more dramatic i still love it >w<
If Shakespeare ever wrote it in our time, some undertaker, priest and pharmacist would ends up suing the guy on how men of their profession's being potrayed

He went to see her body, then poisoned himself. Juliet then wakes up to find her love dead and takes her life with a dagger.

Its the kind that just lowers the heart beat so low that your body goes into an kinda hibernating state and lowers your heart beat so low that its almost undetectable. So then when people would check for the pulse and couldnt find it they assume that they are dead.
@Kali3P Not necessarily. I'm not sure if you ever read the original, but Juliet took a potion (that apparently really does exist) that makes her appear dead. No breathing, no moving and a pulse so weak it's damn near undetectable. Not to mention that health practices/beliefs were WAY different then they are now.
Personally, I think that if they had lived, Juliet would have left Romeo when she learned that he snored loud enough to wake the dead. :D
I've known the song You Raise Me Up since I was super little, when I first watched this show, it brought back SO many memories...and I couldn't figure out why, because I only knew the English version. Hah...thanks for helping me figure it out. :)
@123456789kbx Well it isn't "nothing like Shakespeare's"; it has some correllations, like Romeo being banished/having to go away, Juliet dying after Romeo, the fact that there was a balcony scene, etc. Plus, it makes up for what it's missing by including TONS of innuendos alluding to Shakespeare's other works AND his life. Heck, even Bill HIMSELF is in there!

I freaking cried at the end of this anime, it was just...so amazing beyond words. It's one of those animes I can't just watch a second time, but yet it was an all time fav, cause it's just to good to repeat it's just one of those things were you can't reply such an emotional anime. I love how they turned Josh Groban's song "Raise me up." into a japanese opening to this anime, it is very fitting!

For the ones wondering wether this is close to the original RomeoxJuliet and/or wether this is worth watching: It is certainly worth watching. It's basically the same story character wise, but they gave it a fantasy twist. The plotline is pretty much the same though. The ending, in essence, is also the same, though it's more heroic..
Seriously I was wondering if I should watch this anime, because everybody knows anyway how does Romeo X Juliet ends... But I cried so much! And usually I never cry! You chould watch it. It's awesome in every ways.

(spoiler) I don't see why soooo many people hate the ending of this anime. I LOVE it. Such tradgedy makes me FEEL for the characters. Makes me SAD, thus leaving me with an EPIC, NOT-AS-CLICHE ending. The only thing POSSIBLY "cliche" about it is that it generally follows the story of the play.
I had always loved this song and had heard that Romeo X Juliet was a really good anime. When I found out that they were both smushed into one I just couldn't help but squeel with joy! Romeo X Juliet is the best!

I heard this version first, and today my Chinese Teacher showed my class a video of a Chinese guy singing this song. That is when I learned it was originally Irish. I have yet to hear the original version...That feels a little wrong to me. XD

This anime was really really good... except for (SPOILER) right near the end they were like "o btw Juliet has to die anyway because of a mysterious tree that plans on destroying the world... yeahhhh".... I just thought it was too random and sudden... and a bit unbelievable. I mean, sure, this anime is obviously fiction to begin with, but still... I think they may have stretched the boundaries a wee bit too far... =(
It's very hard to watch this opening without crying, after watching the series, but I can't help it. The song is gorgeous, and goes so well. /tear

This has to be the best anime opening ever. It still gives me chills all over my body after watching/hearing it sooo many times.
(minor) SPOILER BELOW
For the ones wondering wether this is close to the original RomeoxJuliet and/or wether this is worth watching: It is certainly worth watching. It's basically the same story character wise, but they gave it a fantasy twist. The plotline is pretty much the same though. The ending, in essence, is also the same, though it's more heroic..

Seriously I was wondering if I should watch this anime, because everybody knows anyway how does Romeo X Juliet ends... But I cried so much! And usually I never cry! You chould watch it. It's awesome in every ways.

(spoiler) I don't see why soooo many people hate the ending of this anime. I LOVE it. Such tradgedy makes me FEEL for the characters. Makes me SAD, thus leaving me with an EPIC, NOT-AS-CLICHE ending. The only thing POSSIBLY "cliche" about it is that it generally follows the story of the play.

This song makes me cry tears of joy. The little shot of Romeo and Juliet on the ground at the end makes my heart melt.

I had always loved this song and had heard that Romeo X Juliet was a really good anime. When I found out that they were both smushed into one I just couldn't help but squeel with joy! Romeo X Juliet is the best!

love the song love the anime i know its based on the Shakespeare play but i say all love/romance anime, manga and films would all be better if the couple live happily ever after i know it sounds bad but i hate the fact that the animation company that made this anime made romeo and Juliet die no couple in these sort of anime or people that have love this strong should simply NOT DIE i cried at that and i say the anime would be better if they both lived.

I heard this version first, and today my Chinese Teacher showed my class a video of a Chinese guy singing this song. That is when I learned it was originally Irish. I have yet to hear the original version...That feels a little wrong to me. XD

This anime was really really good... except for (SPOILER) right near the end they were like "o btw Juliet has to die anyway because of a mysterious tree that plans on destroying the world... yeahhhh".... I just thought it was too random and sudden... and a bit unbelievable. I mean, sure, this anime is obviously fiction to begin with, but still... I think they may have stretched the boundaries a wee bit too far... =(
