The kahler design does have a lot of advantages ober the Floyd Rose. If they had a string locking system on the bridge and the ability to upgrade to piezo saddles, these bridges would enslave the guitar world.
If I was making a Frankenstrat, would this be a more stable trem to buy? I have a floyd right now, but I'm wondering if this will stay in tune better/cut less tone/smoother action. If anyone could help let me know.
@PoundcakePlaysMW2 Kahlers are the most kick arse tremolos in the history of tremolos. The only problem I have with my Kahler HYBRID trem is that when you bend the string, it kind of goes out of tune, but not drastically, only a little bit (you dive bomb to put it back normally again). I think you can permenantly solve this with some sort of customization. It has incredible smoothness and makes the tone sound more like sex then the floyd. It is also easier to tune. Good luck with your guitar!
@mettalideth01 Of course you can, just get the stud-mount version. Take your SG to a luthier for a "guitar spa" day, and believe me, you won't regret it! I've installed Kahler Hybrids (7300 and 7200) on two Hondos (Formula 1 HSS Explorer, now with a Sustainer, and a Hondo Revival (HHH) Explorer as well as an Epi '63 Firebird VII). They look sexy and play like butter. Oh yeah, and upgraded my carvin V220 to a gold Kahler hybrid - it looks schweeet on glossy black finish!
idk about kahler. my floyd has always stayed in tune perfectly between string changes but kahler looks alot simpler plus you don't have to rout out a huge hole for it. The only thing that stops me from getting a kahler is that i hear they don't stay in tune as good as floyd and you cant use heavy gauge strings. My floyd handles .13's fine but would a kahler? Plz help. I must try new things.
Alternate tunings will stay in tune on a Kahler IF you lock the bridge and use it as a fixed bridge. If not, it'll go out of tune just like any other tremolo except not quite as much.
This is the first time I've ever seen such a vid going into detail of how to set up your kahler to your own preference unlike any of the Floyd vid's i've seen on here with exception to those Floyd vrs kahler ..
Plus you don't see the man himself try to say anything negative about floyd period which speaks volumes he just simply lets his product do the talking .. for him afterall if it wasn't up to scratch his business would have lasted ..
I have a kahler on my G&l Rampage..I love the feel of Kahlers compared to FRs. Its much more bouncy and takes no time to break in the feel of it. After watching this, I realize how customizable my guitar is..its fuckin ridiculous.
i`ve tried it and its really good. but i prefer floyd rose, don`t know i just like it better, and i think i can use it with more precision. and the kahlers i`ve used always go out of tune. don`t know, maybe im abusing it.
Kahler its amazing, after i got it on my esp v im planing to change my other 2 to kahler..its really easier to than floyd and easier to maintan than a floyd and i mean and original floyd not the licensed crap
Does Kahler require cutting a whole through guitar's body? I mean, I know it requires some routing, but is there a back cavity underneath the tremolo?
no it only requires a slight top routing just enough to fit it in,that's another great thing about kahlers you got more wood left on your instrument that means more sustain and fuller richer sound plus they're a piece of cake to adjust and overall fuction and feel they feel like butter compared to a floyd type bridge no to mention no more headaches
i heard that khalers would go out of tune when bending....anyone else hear that?.... i've got a floyd and thats all i've played so i cant compare....i hear khalers are good .....i first heard of them cause phil collen and steve clark used them in Def Leppard in their hey day....lol
I've had an Ibanez with EDGE III tremolo, I was gonna instal a Floyd Rose, so I went to guitar repair master and he told me that it would still require some routing. So EDGE and Floyd Rose are not easily exchangeable.
Yes you can but you'd have to either recess the Kahler into the body a bit or add shims to your neck to set it at an angle for it to work. You can have a Kahler installed, no problem. I do it all the time and they're my favorite tremolos!
Since the part of the string with the wrapping touches the cam, it's recommended that you coat the wrapping at the ball end of the high E, B and G strings with solder so i\they don't break at the bridge. It's not a big deal. You can also use reinforced plain strings sets like Ernie Ball.
Yeah the moron in the "Kahler vs. Floyd Rose" video says the same thing. It turns out not to be true. That video is full of false statements about Kahler.
If your guitar has a bolt-on neck, yes you just need to shim the neck so that it has a slight angle. If it's a neck through or set neck, you'll need to recess the bridge into the body so the roller can be set high enough.
restringing a kahler bridge is easy. you just put the string bead in the "string-bead holder," run the string over the roller/saddle, up through the locking nut and finally to your tuning peg. (you don't clip the string bead off on kahlers like on floyd-type trems.) the kahler is a genius device...especially the newer models that allow you to lock for an instant fixed bridge. in regard to intonation...they are WAY easier to intonate compared to floyds.
I agree 100%. In fact, I'm installing a Kahler for a friend of mine this Monday and he's going to go nuts when he plays it. Kahlers have a great resonant tone and the best feel of any bar ever!
I need help, (sorry 4 my english i'm colombian =P) i have to tune my kahler every time i start to play 'cause its always goes out of tune =S I NEED HELP PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
