I'm an atheist that was born and raised in the U.S. I choose to "not" believe in god or religion. That's my choice. But I believe everyone has the right to worship who ever they wish. And I also believe in tradition. I think "In God We Trust" needs to stay on our green back and the Pledge of Allegiance needs to stay in our schools.

APES ARE QUITE COMFORTABLE IN HOW THEY WALK, just as humans are quite comfortable in how they walk. It was crooked people that worked their way to power that held us back. Not all popes were religious but obtained the title for their own agendas. 2. What the heck 'jump-started' life? Suppose you had all the ingredients to make an organism. After some time would they just form and begin to live?

@Mirewood I understand, and yes Ive heard this many times already so I can attest to the fact that its not a false precept at all by my own experience.
But if our lives and our bodies and our world are all a bunch of "miraculous coincidences" that came into being for no reason at all, what is the "atheist's" answer to the question "What is the meaning of life?" A typical response might be "your purpose in life is whatever you make it to be" but that is not an accurate response to this question.

I'm an atheist that was born and raised in the U.S. I choose to "not" believe in god or religion. That's my choice. But I believe everyone has the right to worship who ever they wish. And I also believe in tradition. I think "In God We Trust" needs to stay on our green back and the Pledge of Allegiance needs to stay in our schools.

@inforockstar I don't choose my beliefs. I look at the evidence honestly and believe accordingly. As for tradition, we're actually being more traditional since that phrase was not on our money originally and "Under God" was not in the pledge originally.

Under God was added to the pledge in 1953. A quick google search of "Under God added to pledge" will reveal many sources. Its a matter of public record.
"In God We Trust" was adopted as the official motto of the United States in 1956. The phrase has appeared on U.S. coins since 1864 and on paper currency since 1957.

Look, you can't find evidence for anything. Even Einstein said that you have to believe in something and thus rejected pure atheism. Denying religion is good, but you are no better of if you don't question "evidence" - even if it is overwhelming, it's still up to you to believe it. Perhaps we know more tomorrow than we do now, thus falsifying the current "evidence". I agree that praying is bullshit, but I also think that blind faith in "evidence" is just as dangerous and damaging.

Actually killing living things in the name of God. @imax1971 What constitutes as the Bible varies between denominations, but most commonly it is the complete collection of the Old Testament (Torah) and the New Testament. All of the books within those are known as the "Bible". Generally, when words lie between a cover page titled "The Holy Bible", the content within is known as the Bible. I'm not sure where you're going with that...
You cannot deny that those quotes are in the Bible, or at least the Gutenberg one. I have one right next to me.

We study the natural world & examine the evidence rather than continuing to believe some archaic belief because we think it sounds nicer. Remember this ridiculous idea of ours came about before the development of modern genetics but the more we learn about genes the Darwin's tree of life is supported.

They do in YOUR mind because abiogenesis AND evolution both stand in contrast with our religious teachings. But among the scientifically literate, they are very separate. Evolution addresses how life has changed over time, not where it came from.

WHAT IS SCIENCE? Science simply is knowledge based on observation. No one observed the universe coming by chance or by design, by creation or by macro-evolution. These are positions of faith. The issue is which faith the scientific evidence best supports. Natural laws can explain how an airplane or a cell works, but it's irrational to believe that mere undirected natural laws can bring about either. THE ODDS of the sequence of molecules in a cell coming together by chance are similar to the odds of magnetic letters randomly bonding together in a sequence to form all the words and sentences in a dictionary. Without the right sequence, a cell's molecules won't work. Amino acids can come by chance but not proteins. Without DNA there can be no proteins and vice versa. Gradually won't do. NATURAL SELECTION DOESN'T PRODUCE ANYTHING. It can only "select" from what is produced that has survival value. If a variation occurs that helps a species survive, that survival is called being "selected." That's all it is. There's no conscious selection by nature. It's a passive process. Natural selection is a figure of speech. The term itself is a tautology. Natural selection only operates once there is life and reproduction, not before. IMAGINE A FISH WITH PART FINS, part feet with the fins evolving (transitioning) into feet. What survival benefit would there be? The fish couldn't use its fins or its feet, and there are no fossils showing such a creature ever existed. They only exist on automobile bumper stickers! APES ARE QUITE COMFORTABLE IN HOW THEY WALK, just as humans are quite comfortable in how they walk. Even a slight change in the position of a muscle or bone, for either, would be excruciatingly painful and would not be an advantage for survival. There's no hard evidence that humans evolved from ape-like creatures anymore than there's hard evidence that apes evolved from four-legged-pawed dog-like creatures.
