Prop 8 is not anti-gay. It was voted on by the majority of the people (twice including prop 20) in order to protect something they hold to be sacred. Instead of offending the traditionalists, why not work on expanding the rights of civil unions? It may take a long time, but anything that's worth having takes a long time. Just ask feminists, african americans, jews, etc.

You are right -you don't get it? Some of us believe that this is immoral behavior. It is wrong. Now not everyone who voted for prop 8 takes the moral imperative argument. We cannot encourage or help our children to think that this is OK. We have a responsibility to our nation, our community and our family to say yes to prop 8. We also like to do this because we know that you are on the other side and you are almost always wrong-you live in the world of the true(ish).

I'm an atheist that supported prop 8. Don't assume that everyone opposed to making homosexual family unions legally equal to traditional family unions is doing so because of religious belief. I oppose the gay marriage deal because I don't believe these relationships should be automatically considered by family courts as equal to traditional families for child custody matters. Children do deserve a chance to have both a mother and father, imo, and two dads are not an equal substitute.
While I understand the frustration of losing, especially on a very important issue, I think opponents of Prop 8 have somewhat misplaced their venting. They're bitterly disappointed that their "right" to marry has been taken away, but they aren't looking at the specious process that gave them that "right": FOUR people who went against the will of millions. Grown men are capable of providing informed consent, ergo anything sexual which they might do with one another hurts nobody. Children (most particularly babies) and animals cannot. I'm an atheist that supported prop 8. Don't assume that everyone opposed to making homosexual family unions legally equal to traditional family unions is doing so because of religious belief. I oppose the gay marriage deal because I don't believe these relationships should be automatically considered by family courts as equal to traditional families for child custody matters. Children do deserve a chance to have both a mother and father, imo, and two dads are not an equal substitute.

While I understand the frustration of losing, especially on a very important issue, I think opponents of Prop 8 have somewhat misplaced their venting. They're bitterly disappointed that their "right" to marry has been taken away, but they aren't looking at the specious process that gave them that "right": FOUR people who went against the will of millions. Disappointment is a function first of expectation, and same-sex couples' expectations were wrongly set by FOUR people. Get mad at THEM.

It's about rights and progress. Today, marriage is defined as "the union of one man and one woman." Before interracial marriage was legalized it was "one white man and one white woman, one black man and one black woman, etc"

Informed consent is why.
Grown men are capable of providing informed consent, ergo anything sexual which they might do with one another hurts nobody. Children (most particularly babies) and animals cannot. And before you give the other stock response, that perhaps we'll be marrying trees next, trees can't give informed consent either.

That is factually not correct. Prop 8 didn't mention gay people at all. All it said was that a marriage was between one man and one woman. If it is not fair to gay people, well then it is equally unfair to polygamists, and any other marriage arrangement that does not consist of one man and one woman.

It's something difficult to understand without being gay yourself. But, I can tell you first hand, it's no choice. Think with logic. Why would a teenager choose to be made fun of more. Why would someone choose not to be accepted. Sure, there are those who are counter-culture for the sake of being counter-culture (think Emo), but homosexuality is not that. I knew I was gay when I was 5, and then attempted to change it until I finally accepted it at 18. Try a a Google search on "gay genes."

Stick the Bible back on the shelf with the Queran, the Tibetan Book of the Dead, the Bhagavad Gita and the Book of Crossing Over. Old dead texts; of anthropological use only. How come the Christian 'prophets' couldn't prophesy anything? Not even electricity, or the car.

If you look at it in the human side then yes gays should have the same rights as straight but if you look at it in the religious side god didn't say that two men or two women should marry each other. i was listening to this guy and everything he said mad sense but he pissed me off when he said that god is asking people to allow gay marriage... who are you kidding !

I'm glad people can tell me what is right and wrong, as if they are "all knowing". If I don't support gay marriage, thats my god given right, not ignorance, those are my beliefs. How dare anyone tell someone else what is right and wrong. That is the, ignorance, forcing your own views on someone else.
