  • NBC please bring Keith Obermann back......NBC please stop the HURT!!!

  • Olberman is such a tool. Go read the Bible, Kurt...

  • @chillyindy His name is Keith, genius. And, also, I'm a straight Christian. I follow Jesus in my HEART...and I wonder, Jesus loves ALL, and all deserve to love and be loved.

  • Prop 8 is not anti-gay. It was voted on by the majority of the people (twice including prop 20) in order to protect something they hold to be sacred. Instead of offending the traditionalists, why not work on expanding the rights of civil unions? It may take a long time, but anything that's worth having takes a long time. Just ask feminists, african americans, jews, etc.

  • We can't let the hate just transfer from one group to another here. Mocking the belief, my belief, in Christ is not doing anything positive for this situation at all. I don't rail against gay marriage and I am not afraid to point the finger at someone who would hide behind the shield of their faith while just promoting their own bigoted agenda. Legally, they should have the access to marriage that we do and I can't think of any valid argument to refute that in a legal context.

  • fuck you

  • What's the big deal with gay marriage? It doesn't affect you in anyway. Same as interracial marriage. I don't get why some people get so bothered about this. I thought this was an excellent speech. Go Keith.

  • I'm sorry but I just can't agree with this one. Unless the definition of the word marriage is officially changed I think gay people need to come up with their own name for it. It's got nothing to do with religion but marriage is between a husband and a wife. And married people are supposed to be able to create their own children. And believe it or not there are some gay people with the same opinion as me.

  • Comment removed

  • Keith had done it again. good one!

  • this is awesome- Keith is so eloquent-

and since we are now into the 21st century maybe it's time the ancient rules of binding one person to another be changed just this much-

  • yes

  • Also, you're making a complete ass of yourself, accusing me of homosexuality while willingly showing off your blissful ignorance and closed mindedness.

  • I don't know what's more disturbing, your lack of retoric ability, the fact you think being gay is a big deal, or your immaturity (you could at least come up with something original). Its unfortunate that people like you can vote, and screw up the system this badly. Unless you can think of anything intelligent to say, this is over.

You obviously have never thought deeply about your politics. Maybe you should "throw statistics" After all, knowledge is power

  • Oh, well aren't you just the most AMAZING orator.

    *gags*

  • also, I don't see how citing (true) statistics makes me homosexual, just because it favors gays. You really don't impress me as a great philosopher. your attempted insult is pathetic for 2 reasons. 1. I know I'm not gay and 2. I don't hold anything against those who are gay. try to say something intelligent if you're going to respond

  • look up the statistics yourself!

Also, it is funny how the "morally bankrupt" blue states consistently have fewer divorces than those in the south and in the rust belt as well

actually, in Massachusetts divorce rates are down even further, it is now 2.0 per 1000 marriages. obviously you haven't done your research. Why don't you do so before you start being a hypocrite

If you think I made these statistics up, send me a link, but to something credible, not something someone wrote on a blog

  • guess what I just found?

divorces in Massachusetts per 1000 couples:

2004, when gay marriage was legalized

    2.2/1000

2005, a year after gay marriage was legalized

    ummmmm. 2.2/1000

yes, gay marriage cost Massachusetts a stunning 0.0 more marriages per thousand couples because of their "evil" policies towards civil rights and gay marriage.

I wish more people would cite these statistics

  • This man is insane.

  • how come?

  • Why not? Soloman had a slew of 'em. The slippery slope fallacy is a fallacy for a reason.

  • You don't have a responsibility to force your opinions on others, the nation or to force your opinions on your kids.

If your opinions fucking made sense, you wouldn't have to brainwash your children and censor nerf the fuck out the world.

    You fail.

You guys have no grounds to stand on. Go away.

    You're all just cruel. Simple.

  • It might be wrong TO YOU, but for some of us, it is OUR LIVES we are living. We aren't doing anything to hurt you or take from you and yet because of your ridiculous dogma, you're trying to take away a right that should be for ALL, not just for those YOU personally decide should be allowed to have that right. You're not a fucking judge over me or what I do and you have no right to tell me how I should or should not live MY LIFE just because you think it's icky.

  • This man should be president.

  • This man is my hero.

  • ca family code 297.5 homosexuals have equal rights in california

  • "ca family code 297.5 homosexuals have equal rights IN CALIFORNIA"

The same people for prop 8 were against this law, and it only applies in california. But if they were MARRIED it would be recognized by other states.

  • Grow up.

  • Hello again, tcass.

Were you replying to -me-? Or just to someone else?

  • i think you should read my very first comment on this video before u start talkin to me

  • "You have the same right to marry that everybody else has. Find someone of the opposite gender who is willing and get married."

Wow. And back in the day, black people had the same rights as white people; they could find a black person and get married to them, right? Isn't that what you're saying, KK?

Also, what about those studies who say kids raised by gay couples are just as well-adjusted, if not more so, then ones raised by straights?

....Are you also opposed to divorce, by the way?

  • Keith, if you're not gay then no one is. Puhleeze...

  • ...and sorry bout that, apparently, my comments did not go to their proper places in amongst the other comments. stupid system. >.>

  • Just as a note - It would be nice if the xtians were HALF as direct in thier crap as hitler was in Mein Kampf. ;)

  • The moment you say "god" in the use of your reasoning is the moment you stop using your brain.

  • While I understand the frustration of losing, especially on a very important issue, I think opponents of Prop 8 have somewhat misplaced their venting. They're bitterly disappointed that their "right" to marry has been taken away, but they aren't looking at the specious process that gave them that "right": FOUR people who went against the will of millions. Disappointment is a function first of expectation, and same-sex couples' expectations were wrongly set by FOUR people. Get mad at THEM.

  • Crypto jews like Keith Olbermann are committed to cultural tolerance because of their belief, one firmly rooted in history, that Jews are safe only in a society acceptant of a wide range of attitudes and behaviors. It is that belief, for example, not approval of homosexuality, that leads an overwhelming majority of American Jews to endorse 'gay rights' and to take a liberal stance on most other so-called 'social' issues." Read Kevin McDonald's 'The Culture of Critique.

  • Hail Hitler!

  • You deserve a kick to the jaw

  • You deserve a kick to the vagina.

  • I thrive to live in a world one day when people who love each other can marry, no matter their gender. People say that god put man and women here to be together, but i dont believe that. I believe that god put us here with the intention for us to love each other, no matter what orientation, sex, religion, or race. And sadly, it is not the case these days.

  • I have never agreed with a man as much as i agree with keith olbermann in this video. People say that marriage should be traditional, and yet its still legal to get married one hour and get a divorce the next. What exactly is 'traditional' about that. Homosexuals just want the right that alot of us have taken forgranted. Its unfair, but sadly, i doubt that will ever change.

  • There's a huge difference between heterosexual marriage and interracial marriage. That is not a valid comparison.

  • Not really.

  • It's about rights and progress. Today, marriage is defined as "the union of one man and one woman." Before interracial marriage was legalized it was "one white man and one white woman, one black man and one black woman, etc"

You know the argument "What about the children?!?!" that was brought up too. People believed that having biracial children was wrong and unfair to a child who would grow up to have identity issues.

  • Actually, it is valid. the only reasons for the ban of interracial marriage was discrimination and hate by one class of another, who did not wish to understand those they'd deem evil. this is no different.

  • As a Christian I have to say this. If people wish not to no God or his will, what is my part in there life. Nothing

  • Nicely written, but doesn't he realize a logical argument about fairness won't overcome brainwashing? Sadly, but truly, so many "religious" people buy the "fact" that only They are Right and everyone else is Wrong. And the bible, or any other revered text, has nothing to do with it. Only humans can teach hatred and elitism; it's not programmed into anyone at the cradle.

  • Never a reason to not try. If we all fall silent, the only voices heard will be speaking of bigotry.

  • why the fuck are people discussing the bible?

    FUCK the bible

Catholicism is easily the biggest fucking plague brought upon our existance. You dumb fucks taking it literally believe that "God" is against it, but he also said stealing is wrong, yet i bet every one of you "devoted" catholics have stolen soething in your life. I bet you have broken more than half of the bullshit commandments you so passionately believe in.

    you blasphemous bastards

  • Can you show ANYthing, outside of the bible, that shows the will of your mythical false god?

  • Very moving. It amazes me that people can vote to remove rights from people. Hopefully, this will get overturned.

  • Concerning the "consenting adults" issue: who says it's wrong for a whole room full of consenting adults to simultaneously engage in sexual activity, or a person to marry and man and a woman, as long as they are consenting adults. This becomes arbitrary law. (For those of you who do not know the definition of arbitrary:determined by chance, whim, or impulse, and not by necessity, reason, or principle.)Consenting suicides? Who determines what is right or wrong, or is there such a thing?

  • Because animals or children are not able to manifest there content to the marriage with free will and full understanding. Adults can do that.

  • epic

  • The man speaks to truth. So damn true.

  • Wow. I love him.

    Thanks for posting this.

  • "This vote is chchorrible. Chchorrible!"

  • How bout you? Can you point to anything at all, OUTside of your preciopus book of lies, er i mean the bible, that shows your statements to be true, to be the will of your mythical false god?

  • rkcoon: Jesus Loves You! Jesus Loves You! Jesus Loves You!

    Bye rkcoon.

  • According to your bible, he does not - being bisexual, non religious, freethinking, unfettered by religion, believing that all human beings are equal and free of wrong or "sin" as you folks call it from birth, that slavery shouldn't exist, and more to the point, i feel safer considering "god and jesus" nonexistent, and if failing that, enemies of myself and all humanity. So No, your dead savior being nor his mythical false god have no love for someone like me - and I *None* for them.

  • rkcoon: You must have really had a lot of hurt in your life. I know, because I too have been hurt and only Jesus could heal me from so many wounds. He will heal you if you give him a chance,"Not religion".

  • Actually no, speaking for myself, I've had a pretty good life so far, parents that loved me and didn't shove religion down my throat, and I'm doing pretty good for myself now - I'm just sickened and disgusted by the death and destruction wrought in the name of blind faith of non-existent gods and dead bastardized people of history, the same blindness that'd seek to keep humanity locked in the dark ages enthralled to myths unproven.

  • Jesus will torture all people who don't accept, love and worship with hell fire. Is that what you call real love? Sounds like North Korea to me.

Could you be happy in heaven forever while a family member burned in hell for all eternity?

  • Considering how overly stringent heaven's requirements are, I suspect hell is a VERY popular place. Me, I would take the latter anyway.

  • Me too, all the lame bands would be in heaven, like creed. Hell would be where all the best bands would be, like Ozzy and Dethklok.

  • Homosexuality DOES exist in animals. For example in Bonobos and Chimps.

What about infertile couples, elderly people and people who choose not to have children? According to your reasoning they should not be allowed to marry.

I read the Bible: unfortunately it contradicts itself in so many instances and has so many morally wrong sentiments (selling your daughter into slavery :S) that I could not accept it.

  • Homosexuality exist is SOME animals. Usually in their adolescent state. None the less even if it did not exist in any animal behavior other then humans, gays still have the right to get married. They have a right to be as miserable as everybody else.

  • You say that two men cannot biologically have children?

Well, obviously a man can't get pregnant, and a woman can't impregnate another woman, but, and just follow me here, what if there was someone who could be the biological parent for them?

Oh, wait, that's called surrogacy! You know? Where a doctor fertilizes the donor egg of a willing mother with the sperm from a couple that can't procreate on their own. They've been doing for infertile couples for DECADES!

Read up on your medical science

  • Amazing!

  • I actully teared up from hearing this, because it is so true!

  • Wow. I admire that mans passion. It illustrates his point of passion: that love is the only thing that counts. I think that final quote sums up the entire message... "So I be written in the Book of Love, I do not care about that Book above." That is true. The 'Book above' is the book of Eternal Life. If we do not care about that book, then this life is all we have to hope for... and Love is the only thing in this entire cursed world that has any meaning.

  • this is so true. what's wrong with people?

  • God is hate?

  • OOOH!!!! Sorry. My bad! I got my words mixed up! That's supposed to be "for" not "against".

  • Is individual freedom the final authority. What is wrong with arbitrary law? Who says? Who *does* say, you, me, them? You should have freedom to marry a child under the same argument. Why not marry an animal? Great companions.Better than people in many instances. Why is it wrong for me to want to marry an animal or have sex with a baby? Sez who? Answer me that question & you will have a real audience with lots of people.I never brought the Bible into this, why should you? You avoided the question.

  • Informed consent is why.

Grown men are capable of providing informed consent, ergo anything sexual which they might do with one another hurts nobody. Children (most particularly babies) and animals cannot. And before you give the other stock response, that perhaps we'll be marrying trees next, trees can't give informed consent either.

Do you ever consider the reasons behind your own morality at all? This is fairly basic stuff here.

  • Sellerofpurple00-To refute your wish to marry a child, its most likely because they are not intellectually able to make their own decision. You can't marry an animal because they are not of the same species (sorry I know that's going to be hard to handle) Are you saying that gay people are less than human? Wow that is truly horrible. Have a nice day, because they won't last long. I hear there is a special level in hell for those who judge...enjoy.

  • "There's no such thing as Truth." Well, doesn't that statement cancel itself? Is it not a *True* statement that there is no such thing as Truth?

Where do any of these agreements end, and on whose authority? Who says it's wrong to marry a child, or commit sexual acts with a baby? Who says? Do you say? Well, maybe you don't, but what if my neighbor says it's OK? Doesn't that make you wrong? Is law arbitrary?

My neighbor:"Hitler did the right thing." Who says? Who says? Can you prove him evil?

  • Gah. How I would absolutely LOVE to meet this guy.

    He's awesome.

  • Keith has said what's in my heart, but what I am not articulate enough to express. Very well thought out and moving. I wish everyone would watch this special comment; I cannot fathom how someone could not support same sex marriage after listening to this.

  • what happened to tolerance?

    do you live in america?

  • Absolutely brilliant

  • Of any dialogue I've heard or read on Prop 8, this is the single most well-expressed, moving talk I've heard on the matter. I got chills reading it and am sharing it with friends and family on MySpace and Facebook.

  • KEITH DESERVES A MEDAL.

  • brilliant, succinct, eloquent, and so full of emotion.

he's said pretty much all that there needs to be said.

  • Well-said, Keith.

  • brilliant- i agree with absolutely everything he is saying

  • Keith...you are my HERO! NO on Prop 8!

PEACE + LOVE = HAPPINESS!!! oxo

    GOD BLESS EVERYONE!!!

  • Keith Olbermann is brilliant.

  • I find it funny that anyone who defends people who are gay are automatically gay. Its just sad that defending a certain group of people labels you as one of them.

  • same goes for you you intolerant, egotistical prick :-D. Say hello to hitler for me once you get to hell will you, bigot?

  • Say hello to him yourself. You will be closer to him than I will.

  • i think the space next to him is reserved specially for you so I sincerely doubt that :-D

  • "i think the space next to him is reserved specially for you so I sincerely doubt that :-D "

Thats so sweet thanks for the encouragement. That space may have been reserved for me, but because I know that my God is a loving God, that space will be empty.

  • how can a false god be a loving god? was he loving the virgin mary again? what a creepy religion. knocking up virgins then abandoning the whole world? great dad. the only reason the christians are so hateful about gays is because their priets ARE GAY and they don't want to admit it so they make up weird rules about it. and since it is a religion, we don't have to follow them.

  • As a straight guy, I totally, TOTALLY applaud Olbermann's statement on this issue.

There are only tow choices in life...love or fear.

  • when prop h8 is overturned, str8 people will lose nothing. there is no cost, there is no loss. prop h8 only oppresses people. if marriage is so sacred how come so many str8 people get divorced? i think marriage would be a very healthy thing for gay people and their relationships. maybe gay people would be more apt to find long term loving relationships with their chosen, and their blood relatives. prop 8 is not fair to gay people it is it is discriminatory and oppressive.

  • "prop 8 is not fair to gay people it is it is discriminatory and oppressive."

That is factually not correct. Prop 8 didn't mention gay people at all. All it said was that a marriage was between one man and one woman. If it is not fair to gay people, well then it is equally unfair to polygamists, and any other marriage arrangement that does not consist of one man and one woman.

  • it doesn;t have to mention gay people to be oppressive. that was the whole point of prop 8, to take away rights recently gained by gay people. it only existed to attack gay marriage. are you so deluded that you don't even understand that? and considering the source of the funding for prop 8 was the mormon church, i'm surprised the next move isn't to legalize poligamy for hetero religious morons. i mean mormons. sorry that was a typo... but since it fits i will leave it.

  • People know why they're doing it. Ignorance.

  • you are an idiot...plain and simple, slingblade...if you hate people so much, go live on an island by yourself

  • He's a troll, ignore him.

  • you are ignorant. poor you dasnt7.

  • Dont be an ass hole, this is not the time to funny

  • I wasn't quite sure where I stood on this topic before I saw this video. But now I know that I am totally for anyone marrying whoever they want. It should be their choice. Not somebody else's.

  • Corolla, actually.. speaking as someone IN another country? We don't think America is weak for protesting. We think America is weak because she cannot extend full and equal rights to all her citizens.

You guys harp on about being the land of the free?

    I lol.

You guys have denied rights to 10% of your population. You're not free, you're a farce.

    That means joke, hon.

  • just like you love hearing the sound of your own ignorance....Sometimes It's better to say nothing and look a fool, than to open ones mouth and confirm it... and you... well' you're the latter. (and if you dont know that word then you truly are one)

  • Actually, you won't be. Canada's already done it. And Spain. And the Nordic countries. And most of Europe.

Your country's all big on being the leaders of the free world, but you're sliding back to the 16th century. It's kind of sad, actually.

But that's okay. Y'all can have your repression and your silliness. We'll take your gays, and your other minorities.

You just... enjoy being backwards or something.

  • Actually, I don't really like the idea of a double-digit IQ fundy having access to the launch codes....

  • I don't think anyone does. If I was at all religious, I'd be thanking whatever flavour of God I could think of, just for Mr Obama.

He might not support same-sex marriage, but at least he has two brain-cells to rub together.

    Unlike some politicians.

But it never fails to amuse me: the land of the free is one of the last first world countries to be outright repressive.

    Oy vey.

  • It's something difficult to understand without being gay yourself. But, I can tell you first hand, it's no choice. Think with logic. Why would a teenager choose to be made fun of more. Why would someone choose not to be accepted. Sure, there are those who are counter-culture for the sake of being counter-culture (think Emo), but homosexuality is not that. I knew I was gay when I was 5, and then attempted to change it until I finally accepted it at 18. Try a a Google search on "gay genes."

  • Here. Let's make it real, real easy for him.

I chose to be a lesbian? Okay. We'll let it stand.

When did you chose to be straight.

    How's that?

If it's a choice, then everyone must have made one. So when did you make yours, Saleen?

  • wow. with spelling and grammer like that, i see you are really terribly edjamuhcated.

  • No, man. Britney Spears' 54 hour marriage was a joke. Sham marriages to be 'normal' are a joke. You passing judgement on people you have never met simply because of something they can't change is a joke.

    You, period, are a joke.

And yeah. All of us are laughing at you.

  • so im guessing your a homo?

  • Oh my goodness, could it really be so obvious?!

Whatever gave you the sign, chief? I thought I was hiding it so well!

    Yeah, I'm a lesbian.

    I'm guessing you're a bigot?

  • no i wouldnt say im a bigot im just saying same sex marriage is a joke

  • i think it is sad thet you think your same sex marriage is a joke. the rest of us take ours seriously. maybe you should go to couples counciling? are you both bottoms?

  • i think its sad you scrolled through all those comments

  • just trying to help you bottoms sort your problems out.

  • i dont have any problems i got the law on my side

  • for the moment. and then, when the law is corrected as it eventually is in america, you'll be free to get married. but in the meantime, give counciling a thought anyway. you don't have to be married to strengthen your relationship. if you try you can work it out. maybe get a strap on, or find a mutual friend that is a top.

  • im free to marry right now i dont need any laws to get passed

    lol im not gay

  • oh, i get it. you're a bi-canadian. cool. you had me for a minute there.

  • that's what i thought

  • wow. no wonder you and your lover have so many problems.

  • no cause im not gay there for no problems

  • You, m'dear, are simply brilliant. I adore your comments!

    Rock on. Rock on. :D

  • *curtseys*

Thanks! Normally I try to keep cool cause, come on. It's the internet. It's not such serious business.

But well, sometimes people get a blast of bitch, what can I say? Like our good pal tcass up there.

Ah well. Thanks! It's very flattering indeed.

  • how is it a joke cause i dont find it funny

  • i do

  • Now I'm curious. Explain why.

Try to do it without invoking either the Bible, or 'against nature' in your arguements.

    C'mon, Cass. I dare ya.

  • lets see a man and a man cant make a baby and a woman and a woman cant make a baby

oh yeah and it says in the bible that same sex shouldnt be together

oh wait you said dont do that

  • Well, you did try to not mention the Bible, so we'll not count it.

Your main arguement is this: two same-gender people can't procreate, right?

So we should ban marriages to infertile people? Or old people? Or people who don't want children?

None of them are going to have children, either. What would you do about them?

Again, without using the Bible or 'against nature' (that arguement has holes in it anyways), what makes gays distinct from straights who can't have kids?

  • How does religion dictate the laws in the United States? Why should there be laws defining marriage at all? If anyone should set laws on marriage, it should be the churches, not the government.

  • Since when was marriage about having children?

My mother and step-father don't intend on having children.

What about old people who marry but can not produce?

    What about sterile couples?

There are so many married peopel who won't, can't, or don't want to have children.

No where does it say marriage is about children.

  • how? how is it funny to deny someones right to get married? how is it funny to say your not good enough to be like everyone else

  • But you also liked Rush Hour 2 & 3 so your humor gland is broken anyway.

  • how the hell is it funny to deny someones right to get married

  • Stick the Bible back on the shelf with the Queran, the Tibetan Book of the Dead, the Bhagavad Gita and the Book of Crossing Over. Old dead texts; of anthropological use only. How come the Christian 'prophets' couldn't prophesy anything? Not even electricity, or the car.

  • If you look at it in the human side then yes gays should have the same rights as straight but if you look at it in the religious side god didn't say that two men or two women should marry each other. i was listening to this guy and everything he said mad sense but he pissed me off when he said that god is asking people to allow gay marriage... who are you kidding !

  • God doesn't matter in this issue. That's pretty much it.

  • I agree aces, he reminds me of the sister in the movie Eulogy.

  • Straightarrow MUST be a closet case...i dont believe anyone can be that ignorant

  • I was thinking along the same lines :P

  • "I'm glad people can tell me what is right and wrong, as if they are "all knowing""

Oh my god, me too! I just love having some dude I've never met tell me what I can and can't do!

Hypocrite. I can't suggest that maybe bigotry is bad, but you can tell me I don't deserve the right to eventually marry?

Tell me how that one works, mm?
