I'm an aspiring author, and I write a lot of horror, so old school music like this helps put me in the mood for, you know, fucking with other peoples' minds. ^_^
exactly. the grime chs tape brought in horror films. it was darker and the music now of days is garbage. like this movie and phantasm are still unsettling to me.
yeah this and zombie flesh eaters were the best films of Fulci IMO, plus, they sure dont make films like this anymore, plus the music in City of The Living Dead and Zombie Flesh Eaters were really good and atmospheric
Hi, I'm A Media Studies Student At a College And I Would Appreciate It Very Much If You Took Quick Look at My Teaser Trailer For My New Up Coming Movie... !!
Drag Me To Hell was entertaining but not really all that scary and it wasn't anywhere nearly as good as Evil Dead and Evil Dead 2. In order for horror to be great once again CGI will need to be all but completely abandoned and practical mechanical effects will have to be used. The stories will need to revolve around characters we actually give a damn about and there will need to be a much greater emphasis on creepy atmosphere rather than shock alone.
@Johnlindsey289 I did really enjoy it but i just didn't find it to be very scary. A horror film doesn't necessarily have to be scary to be a good film.
Touche! Spoken like an individual who knows exactly what horror is all about. On that note,The Blow Witch Project is basically a Cannibal Holocaust ripoff anyway. Fulci lives!!!
Hey Joorum would you be so cool to burn me a CD of this? I would pay a decent price for it. I've tried like hell to find a copy but the only one I could find was something like $120.00 on Amazon!!!! Never hurts to ask I guess.
@PkmnTrainerElite I'm not sure, I didn't check. I can't say I'm a big fan of the movie or of horror films in general. I just like horror movie soundtracks. Frizzi being one of the best. Horror films don't do much for me. They're more unintentionally comical then they are scary. I just love creepy tunes.
Started collecting all fulci films in the last 4 months got a great collection the one that freaked me out was House by the cemetery and zombies 2 wow he is the master but lets get one thing clear the films are crazy mad deranged spooky and really creepy but once you get the fulci bug in you you cant stop watching the master the new york ripper lmfao i did not know to laugh of cry lol gonna watch don't torture duckling soon!! wow the buzz fulci gets is unreal kaz x
Still my favorite of all your OSTs ... btw, completely agree with you on Eli Roth, and if you get a chance, check out Miike's Masters of Horror ep, Imprint. Yeah, Audition put me off of eating oatmeal for an entire month, LOL. Looks exactly like whatever she coughed up into that bowl.
The mood the old cameras created plus the sound selection in classic fulci made for some scare movies. Sad how with all of the new high quality movies out. VHS tape horror movies still at least with me create a much better mood. The "crappy" quality still the best.
you share my sentiments to a T. I always try my hardest to get the original VHS of any movie I get (even though VHS wasn't around until the late 70s and MANY damn good movies were before that time). Either way I still try to get the oldest possible copy of any movie.
Thank you, baboracus were are a dying breed of fans that understand the power of mood. Exemplefied in the old Vhs movies of our youth, I have yet to trully experience a movie as I once did in VHS. Technology isn{t always better the old VHS have a charm that only a few can understand.
People are too busy being told what to like. Unfortunately I wish i was someone who could be told what to like because then things would sure be easier. Most of the good movies were long before I was born (84). However, it is still crystal clear that their vastly superior to anything back in the last 20 years at least. Having the old films that were used in the drive in theater and projected unto a wallinmy basement would be the best method of video watching but old VHS is boss
When I first saw this movie, it creeped me out to the point where I had to fast-forward the gory parts of the movie. I vowed never to watch it again after that. a few years afterwards, I saw New York Ripper and gave this and the Beyond a shot. Now I love this movie!
Well what about "Ichi The Killer"? do you think "The New York Ripper" was early torture porn before "Hostel" and it's ilk? in fact Eli Roth is a huge fan of "NYR" and had it as an inspiration to his "Hostel" movies/
I don't like the term torture porn, it's inaccurate. Besides, Eli Roth is a failure of a director and I don't really care where his inspiration comes from. He never reaches the same level of entertainment value as the filmmakers he looks up to. Just like Tarantino.
I would rank The New York Ripper as more of an extreme giallo rather than a torture porn flick since the "porn" is actually pretty tame and the torture occupies much less screentime than the usual slasher-style quick deaths.
I feel that Ichi The Killer is much more extreme than NYR. But Japanese movies usually find more reasonable explanations to the graphic content than Italian movies. It's hardly there for the sheer depravity of the director's mind.
Miike's movies have that certain element of shock to them that prevents the events from becoming unintentionally amusing but instead very disturbing and almost life-changing. The first time I saw Audition, it left a permanent mark on me, something very few films do.
Fabio Frizzi is my all-time favorite composer, and this OST is second for me behind The Beyond. It's the best listening to these in bed with the lights out!
I agree it's the creepiest of his zombie films, Joorum. I always loved the atmosphere in City. It has this great sense of doom and dread...not too many other movies captured that feel like Fulci did. Where did you find the soundtrack for this? I've been wanting to get it for awhile now.
Have you ever heard Anima Morte before? I recommend checking them out. They're very influenced by scores like this. They only have one album, but it's pretty cool.
I might have heard of that band. Not sure. I downloaded this by using BitTorrent. The specific site might be called torrentz(dot)com. Don't take my word for it.
LOVE this movie! It remains my favorite Fulci film to this day. Thanks for posting the score, Joorum. I've been meaning to track this down on CD for awhile.
That track @ 1.04, that is scarey, thats the Father Thomas theme lol I try and think do i just like this era of the horror genre because its nostalgic to me as i used to watch them when i was a kid but no, i STILL think they have the ability to shock and scare even nearly 30 years later, i've said it before but post modern horror doesnt have the ability to shock or scare what so ever, at least they dont scare me personally anyway.
You sure are man. Sorry about this but I'll sit here all day and praise you...I have four days off from work and this is what I do with my time every week. I find music from movies that I just can't live without. so if you got anything else up your sleeve...I'll be waiting.
LOVING IT! Saw this on the Big Screen 1981 as THE GATES OF HELL music is so important in HORROR all the greats have a classic score or EERIE sounds(like TEXAS CHAINSAW) Thank you so much for this. Also love the soundtrack to THE BEYOND and that piano theme :)
Try the Torrent sites. That's where I got my soundtracks from. Search "City of the Living Dead soundtrack torrent upload" or something like that on Google. It should work. Good luck!
City of the Living Dead is my least-favorite Fulci film. It's as bad as it gets in my opinion, but three things save the picture: the infamous scene, the beauty of Catriona MacColl and the soundtrack.
Well it's a matter of opinion. You see, I did not enjoy Zombie Flesh Eaters as much as I should have. It was bland and primitive compared to the later films. The Beyond and Lizard In a Woman's Skin are my favorite Fulci films.
I really liked City, Fulci invokes incredible atmosphere in this film. Years ago I had a girlfriend who actually liked horror films ... we watched it but she made me turn it off after 20 minutes because she found it too scary.
Well, I suppose that's alright. But let's put that aside for a second. A lot of people have asked me how to contact with me or send me stuff and I'm still trying to figure that out. I'll let you know once I've come up with a solution.
