OMG!! I've always remembered seeing a commercial of this play from when I was a child and all I could ever recall was the line... "i've been watering this plant since the day I have met you, water it wit cha damn self." Now I know where that came from. I was afraid of that commercial seeing it on TV. because it was a group of women in a circle and speaking their parts, but I thought it was some scary ritual they were doing, I guess I had no idea what a play was back then.
WHY DOES ANY OF ALL THIS HYPE MATTER, JUST MAKES BLACK WOMAN o'yeah girls SEEM NEEDY AS HELL, LIKE I JUST CANT TAKE IT SERIOUS ALL THIS DOES IS SHOW THE ANGRY LOUD SCORNED BLACK WOMAN o'yeah girl IN SORTED COLORS ITS NOT GROUNDBREAKING NOR GROUNDMAKING THEY JUST ADDED COLORS TO A STEREO TYPE its that simple, like really simple
@blackwoodjankins It was groundbreaking in 1976 when black women were breaking OUT of the role of smiling through it all like everything was alright in all circumstances.
helps you get through the hard times in life this will forever be my favorite play love all the parts, i had the album at on time and the book bout t get a copy this week havent had heart ache like this in years and this is all i could think of to make me feel better
i actually have the original album of this play, i purchased it back in 1974, when the play was on broadway. and this actress you see here,(tranzana beverly) does an even more powerful version of this chorepoem,"no assistance" on the LP. and her version of "bo willy brown", is even more electrifying. i believe she won a tony award for her performance too. if the original version of this play from "74 ever comes out on dvd ill be the first to buy it.

Lookin back on this some 30 some odd years later, I never realized how bad the acting was.

I did this for an audition. My acting was so forceful, I was appointed assistant director of the stage production.
