I find it hard to believe that she actually rehearsed and went into the studio to record 30 seconds of a classic song. There absolutely *must* be a full version of this. I would suspect that Lincoln paid for it outright though, which is a shame because whatever they paid her would be peanuts compared to what she could have made releasing the full thing.
waitaminute... in the song, the rocket malfunctions ("there's something wrong") and major tom never gets home. I don't want to buy a car like that! D:
@shinegrove No, I used to think that too, but if you listen carefully at the end they reestablish communications and he makes it safely back to Earth. Whew!
@ijzerkoekie I've listened closely and can't find any proof that he does, but alive or dead, it explicitly states in the song that his circuit's dead. I wouldn't want to buy a car where the circuit's dead.
@heavyarms117 I'm not sure there is a full version, but the closest I can find is the Shiny Toy Guns version - I'll post that in the description soon.
@ijzerkoekie Shiny toy guns did not do a version of this song...because the actual name of this song is called "space Oddity" and was originally done by David Bowie....the song you are thinking of is called "Major Tom" and the original is done by Peter Schilling, but yes shiny toy guns did cover the peter schilling song "major Tom"
@jtarantula3390 I think this is it, pull out the space between the "dot" after youtube and the rest of the URL: youtube. com/watch?v=KGultrg7l0I&playnext_from=TL&videos=VgUmXHZbZcE
Super cool commercial and the song would give you gooshbumps with positive vives !!!! I tried it with my Porsche but it got complicated....................
yeah, this is Cat Power's cover to "Space Oddity", originally sung by David Bowie. the only reaason ppl cant find it on iTunes is because Cat Power never completed the song, she just did it for this commercial. So please stop saying this is by Shiny Toy Guns. They did "Major Tom(Coming Home)", not this song
shiny toy guns did the bowie version 'ground control to major tom" they also did the peter schilling english version "major tom coming home". Lincold did 2 commercials as well using both versions. Excellent comercials for a excellent car.
Yeah, I found the one by Shiny Toy Guns. I actually emailed Ford trying to find out who sang the other version. They actually had someone CALL ME about it!! It was really cool of them to do that. Ford's definitely getting a lot better than they used to be.
Thank god someone knows. Ive asked everywhere and all i got was david bowie or peter shilling as the answer. thank you for specifically answering that.
Interesting. Do you mean the commercialization of the song is wrong, or that they shouldn't have redone it? I happen to like Schilling's version the best, even though I believe Bowie was the original artist. If people like it, what's wrong with it? What's crappy is that Cat Power only sung this short clip and left us hanging - for money. There's nothing wrong with making money, but art shouldn't be abused this way, if that's what you mean, I agree. However, this is still an awesome commercial!
REDSTARTIN, liberal bastards have always pretended not to like money, but they are the most money-grubbing fuckers in the world. Look at John Lennon and how he sang about the joy of not having possessions, but just try to take those possessions away from Yoko and him! (He left England to escape high taxes). Look at the Clintons and how they sold out the presidency for hundreds of millions. Look how Obama's Cabinet picks have all failed to pay THEIR taxes, as they plan on raising OUR taxes.
Dude, I freaking love this commercial. I can watch it again and again and again. Lincoln stepped up on this one. This commerical is so hot....The song, The car...It works!!!

That's Space Oddity by David Bowie, not Major Tom (Coming Home) by Peter Schilling. Who sings the latter in the new Lincoln commercial?
tweeber69 2 years ago 3
Huh? what do you mean? it's the same song. Are you saying it's not modeled specifically after Schiiling's version? Why?
ijzerkoekie 2 years ago
Yeah, it's modeled after it, but it's not the same song. They sound totally different, one is slow and the other is fast and techno..ish.
tweeber69 2 years ago
Oh, I know that, but I think it sounds like Schilling's version, but that's just my opinion :-)

I see. :-)
