If you ever listen to one of his live albums ("Shut up you Fucking Baby" or "It's Not Funny"), you'd find that this is a common thing that David does. For example (from it's not funny): "Dude I would love to go to the Evanescence concert with you!"

It's track #2 on the album if you pick it up. But yeah, he does **not** like Dinosaur Jr. lol.

Yeah I agree. I assume that he likes Dinosaur Jr. because for one they are actually good and secondly if you listen to the joke this sarcasm isn't directed at the guy going to the Dinosaur Jr. show. Its directed at the guy who's going to not go to the show just to hang out and eat an organic avocado.

What I like about David Cross that sets him apart from other comics is that most comics will try and find things that are universally funny, but David just comes up with stiff that's funny to him

I don't think it's just that, I think he has just a great faculty at performance and observations of mannerisms and stuff. If you watch Mr Show the character development is alot better than most sketch shows because they are redolent of people you meet, obviously...enhanced(?) for comedic ends.
