  • Most Christians are more concerned with debating *Church* (not Bible) doctrine than spreading the Gospel. Then again, they can't seem to come to a consensus as to what the Gospel even means.

  • god is for weak, mindless lemmings.

  • @aquaskye as if you are any stronger.

  • It all depends on your idea of what God is. The most idolatrous notion we can have is to be attached to an idea of what God is. In order to find God you must let go of God. One day, you may awaken to who you are, what is at your core. Name that whatever you wish, it does not matter. When you realize it, you will understand. Peace.

  • I've noticed that Protestants tend to be morally upstanding and disciplined where other religious people tend to be degenerate.

  • yeah, I noticed that as well. I was talking with a person with a very nice attitude once, later I found out he was a protestant.

  • To Sleezyque8== Yes its true how Malcom X changed his perspective about God and Good deeds from the days of his criminal past. He once quoted something along the line of " Its not a disgrace to have been a criminal, But it is a disgrace to remain one."

  • Drudia9 = "Unrepentant tosser of meaningless discourse to the masses." (per his channel.) Lives in Spain.

Must be Catholic. Wonder if he knows about the misogynist Pope Leo....

  • Too bad he was a misogynist and virulent anti-semite. Well, nobody's perfect.

  • I'm glad I watched the series about the Medicis before watching this.

For those who haven't, I would recommend it.

it's a PBS Youtube series just like this one. You want to especially watch the 3rd episode of it: "The Medici Pope" which is about Pope Leo (AKA Giovanni Medici) who is the one who sold the indulgences that Martin Luther opposed.

  • ah yeah the medici series is amazing

  • Superb!

  • Religious groups created faith franchise, and that's one of the most common form of power...

We should judge other's on social responsability, not on faith... Understanding ourselfs is the greatest goal of all and for that I must say thank's PBS/YouTube for providing resources, Keep up the good work!!!!

  • try also history channel and discovery channel and biography channel.

  • Does anyone know if similar type programmes are available on John Calvin and/or Ulrich Zwingli?

  • Can anyone tell me what the name of that song/service/choir that's being sung after 15:44?

    And who sings it?

  • the true is that no organise religion should be trusted!!!!! they all fead on human gullibility!!

  • it's also same applis to anything else that breaths...

  • This is why I do not trust the Church for many reasons.

  • I love that PBS posts full episodes of their docs online, they are always done so well and are interesting even if I have to prior knowledge on the topic.

    thank you!

  • why don't all of you just shut up and watch the documentary.

  • THANK YOU! I was thinking the same thing.. all this arguing gets SO old. It just goes around and around in circles. Everyone already knows the different views and opinions and has made their decisions. So you people are wasting your time.

  • "....that spirit is JESUS CHRIST.given to a person when they become born again." Copied and Pasted from your own comment ! Check above and see

Thanks for the suggestion I think I will read it again!!!

  • i love how these people who know not GOD in spirit try and explain spiritual things.GOD is a spirit and must be worshipped in spirit, that spirit is JESUS CHRIST.given to a person when they become born again.

  • Hahahaha and I suppose he visited you personally and you have had many chances to chat with it or does one say he or him or her when speaking about a spirit. Come on dude get a life! Jesus did not even exist. If you had done your homework and read about the metaphor Jesus represents you would know that more then a dozen other civilizations have their own Jesus and they were also born on the 25th, died and resuscitated three days after and their mothers were virgins.

  • You claimed you have historical knowledge, but fail to realize that not only was Jesus not born on the 25th, he wasn't even born in December. The only reason they celebrate this day is because it was the day of the Roman festival Sol Invictus. Because of this, the Roman adopted this day to make it easier on the populace of pagans to convert to Christianity.

You can argue that he was simply a metaphor, but you cannot prove he did not exist, nor can any prove he did.

  • Pliny the Younger, Roman Historian

    Josephus, Jewish Historian

    Philo the Jew, Jewish Historian

All three wrote about Jesus - Bam?

  • Pliny the younger spoke of a Jewish King named Jesus. Which is strange, because Jesus was no king. From a Roman perspective, Jesus was an unknown fool, and would of been considered crazy by most Romans. Why a Roman would call him king is a little odd.

Don't forget that for that time period, Jesus was a very popular name.

I think most evidence of Jesus was forged by the Christian church for the next 2000 years to prove his existance. Some evidence has even been proven to be a lie.

  • What evidence has been proven? I'd like to see the evidence to support that statement.

  • thanks for that additional information!!! darkjut

  • You are inncorrect read John chapter 1 Jesus isn't a spirit

  • wrong,i didnt say JESUS was spirit,i said GOD is a spirit.you read chapter one

  • how about nobody reads it

  • an interesting quote by martin luther:

"I feel much freer now that I am certain the pope is the Antichrist"

protestants have surely lost their way since his time.

  • You should be seeking what God needs from you.

all men are capable of lies, but God is not accountable for lies of men. God is Love, and if a religious sect is not unified world wide with the same principles and teachings according to accurate knowledge of the bible, you should really check where they are getting their truth from. God or man?

Do your personal research. Everyone is accountable for their own lives.

Use An accurate bible you will find the truth if you are eagerly seeking.

  • oh is that liam neeson narrating? :D

  • Yes it is. Aslan himself is narrating this documentary. Oddly enough, Liam Neeson is a devout Roman Catholic.

  • How ironic that the fear of death of one man on a certain stormy night made him become a devout christian and vow his life to exploiting others fear of death and abusing those poor believers for the rest of his life. And that's how religions are born, in the hands of cowards that misrepresent themselves as saviors and self-ritghteous manipulators.

  • Honestly the continued assault on religion and religious people by those who FEEL that religion has corrupted the earth fail to see many of it's great accomplishments. Though you may feel that there is nothing good about religion I implore you to consider the American Civil Rights Movement. Read the Taylor Branch series: America in the King Years. Without religion, specifically Christianity the movement has no chance. As well as the contributions of Malcolm X, a Muslim. Religion provides hope!

  • These people did not do anything that good thinking healthy minds with a good set of moral values could not have done. Please, understand that so much evil has been committed in the name of god and the church and don't come back with non believer atheist never did anything bad? Yes they did, but none ever claimed they were doing bad in the name of atheism. They were bad period. Bad people do bad things, good people do good things, but with religion you can get good people to do bad things.

  • Remember a guy named Adolf Hitler? He used the Darwinian model of "Survival of the Fittest" to persuede his scientific-leaning population to accept "The Final Solution". Propaganda films were made and shown to bolster his grand idea to kill "unwanteds". But, today, it's real popular to blame religion, and specifically, Christianity for the woes of the world. Funny how Islam is not so much under assault. I'm guessing the Swaggerts had someting to do with this. I am a non-christian observer.

  • Yes of course we remember the maddest and most cruel tyrant of the last century but how does that differ from the crimes committed by the church also based on scientific evidence they wanted to cover up by saying it was heresy? Christianity is targeted here just because its in the front row due to this video, but rest assured that all religions are equal in their madness and lack of respect of human life. From one non-christian non-religious person to another, may peace be with you!

  • DO you believe in abortions. Since you talk about respect for human life. Most non-believers believe it is ok to murder babies. I would be intrigued if you believe that it is a disgusting and evil practice.

  • u cannot take away my right to kill unborn humans. i have the right to life liberty and pursuit of happiness... and my happiness necessitates that i trample over another person's right to life. shutup! it makes perfect sense. i said stfu!

  • good one!

  • Just to clarify so people don't read this wrong, you do not have a right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness when it interferes with the rights of another. By the way, Scott Peterson trial pretty much gave an unborn fetus constitutional rights within the United States.

(Remember this is under the assumption that gwho was being sarcastic. If he really does feel that way, same applies, just now more directly.)

  • Hitler read Nietzsche. That's where he got his ideas from. Social darwinism only further justified his butchering, but did not actually cause it. Similar to this is imperialism in the late 19th century: European powers dominated through ruthless colonization and used social darwinism to justify it all.

  • OR...it can make BAD people do GOOD things. (i.e., Malcolm X, who I previously mentioned, read his bio!)

  • OR, you can get BAD people to do GREAT things! (i.e. Malcolm X, read his bio)

  • Very true. Its encouraging to learn how Malcom X once was the epitome of evil but how he changed his perspective on the world through the knowledge of ALLAH. He once quoted something along the line of..." ITS NOT A DISGRACE TO HAVE ONCE BEEN A CRIMINAL, BUT IT IS A DISGRACE TO REMAIN ONE."

  • i also think it is interesting that in his mind it was like the more he suffered in this life the more he would be accepted in heaven. He was clearly suffering a self-hating psychosis, i mean he was severly abused frequently as a child it sounded like.

I bet In those days the church would get a lot of young boys/men that had serious mental instabilities! then they give them something to become OCD about, throw in some lead paint and repressed sexuality and the results are Wackadoo!!

  • Well put and good observations.

  • bingo.

  • Religion and spirituality are preverted by ppl like you who have no sense of real right and wrong or anything greater than your self. IF they were actually believers they would not be so arrogant to prevert doctrine and HIS word for their own personal gainl Most real folllowers of Christ are disenfranchised with the Church and their b.s and ppl who claim to be Christians an preach an incorrect message then do things in Gods name that are insane.

  • Religion does not need people like me to pervert it, the righteous religious people are very capable of doing that unassisted. I will only highlight how righteous you people can be? You actually believe that only religious people have a clue of what is good or bad, that in itself demonstrates how superior and condescending you can be towards others. So who's arrogant now?

  • I was talking about ppl who claim to be believers and in their arrogance prevert doctrine. for their own personal gain..read it again. And i didnt say that ALL people who dont believe are preverting religion and spirituality I said people like you. There are a few people who dont believe and educate themselves fully on the history of and scriptures of Christianity. If you understood the doctrine in full and not what tidbits other athiests have told you you may understand more.

  • Tell me please, what is it that gives you so much confidence in making such absolute statements. You barely read a few lines written by me and claim to know me enough to write about what I know or don't know. I was raised in a catholic family and read the bible from cover to cover more then once, did you? But my knowledge about religion does not stop with christianity so my statement about religious people stands, based on knowledge acquired and digested so as to form a well based opinion.

  • Oh and i am no coward..I have been thu more shit in my life b/c of the acts of immoral ppl that would probably make you shit ur pants. I am stronger and wiser for it, but to not excuse their wrong doing.

  • I agree

  • Misinterpretation of Luther's thesis' led to the destruction of a lot of good art :/.

  • That is, if it really were the thesis themselves and not the general anti-Papacy attitude which snowballed from them.

  • This was great! I loved the presentation quality and all the history involved. Luther was from our perspective a reformer of the Church and a historical figure, but to think what it must have been like for him, not knowing the outcome of what he was doing... he just did what he believed was right. And whether one is Protestant or Catholic... there really was a lot of corruption (both spiritual and financial) in the church in Luther's day.

  • Luther should had stayed in the church!

  • Where would you be if Luther had not left the Church? All of history would have been different. The Catholic Church would have degraded further and further into corruption and heathenism. If you are a part of the Catholic Church you have Martin Luther to thank for the freedom even you hold.

  • The church would had noticed that some of the things they were doing were wrong eventually.. if luther had just pressed on within the church on that one area.. he could of been a new St. Francis of Assisi.

  • Possibly, or maybe he was but by his time unlike in the times of St Francis of Assisi the church had become so corrupt that he could no longer in good conscience stay in the church... The pope after all by this time was a pedophile 42:38. Perhaps the effect of Luther's departure on the church drove the Catholic church to some reform.

  • That is true, because God did come to St. Francis of Assisi and asked him in some way to build or repair the foundation of the church. It is possible that with all that power and with all the aristocracy within the church, it did become corrupt and Luther just tried to bring it back to the way it should be. Yet, I wish he had stayed within the church, I know that many things were against him, yet he could had brought forth in good time his message, and maybe be a marytr for his cause.

  • Yet overall if you play within corruption.. I dont know if thats right or not..

  • Also remember that it was the Roman Catholic Church that excommunicated Luther, first.

  • [] if luther had just pressed on within the church on that one area.. he could of been a new St. Francis of Assisi. []

You cannot press on within "the Church" if you have been excommunicated. Period. Luther did not decide to to leave the Roman Catholic Communion, he was expelled from it.

  • I wonder what the views of everybody here would've been if they had lived during that time.we can now look back with history already passed and make seemingly easer judgments.there are newer religions with similiar leaders such as joseph smith who as a prophet has restored christ true church with all of the ordinances that jesus brought here, but look and see how the world treats this knowledge.disclaiming the prophet himself today.

  • Perhaps you have not studied the history of that religion, I would like to sell you beach front property in Utah care to purchase said properties ?

  • Luther didn't leave the Church. He was kicked out by the pope. He had to go into hiding, because he would be executed if he was handed over to the pope. The Council of Trent would eventually answer Luther's EARLY concerns with the Church (indulgences, confession, education, corruption, etc.) If Leo X had listened to Luther in the first place there would have been no Lutheran Protestant Revolution.

  • Just realized that... I am really sorry about the above comment I made earlier!

  • There is no reason to be sorry, it has been a good discussion.

  • Ah, I suppose my previous comment was premature. Good day.
