@pbanders The original from The Caravansarai album was played as a guitar duet between Carlos Santana and Neal Schon. Even though "Song of the Wind" has only been played a very few times since live - Carlos still uses exerts from Song of the Wind in his solos - e.g. on Incident at Neshabur.

Neal Schon played this , not Santana. This does not sound at all like most of the other Santana stuff out there. Nothing like this on Samba Pa Ti, Oye Como Va,or the Supernatural album.Neal Schon is the Man.

Carlos used a Gibson Les Paul Custom on Caravanserai, he didn't get the Yamaha SG until 1975. He used the Gibson L6S after the Les Paul, and then the Yamaha SG.

You know when this song was recorded it was during a transition stage for the Santana Band. It marked the end of Neil Schons involvement with him right before he and Greg Rollie went to form Journey in the mid 70s. You seem to be a very talented young guitar player as he was at the time. Keep up the Great playing, and we'll hopefully see you playing in a venue in L.A. someday.

Hi ColinScott, there's a great live version from Paris 1977 on the Viva Santana album, where Carlos plays the whole song himself - on the album version he shared the soloing with Neal Schon. The live version on the Viva Santana album is even better than the original.
