  • Cool.

  • OMG I can't help but say anything but, I WANT TO PLAY THIS. I can already do the double tonguing and the tonics. I need the score.

  • @tubamacmac

Hate to break it to you, but the score isn't going to help you one bit.

  • the 27 dislikes. must be wood winds. their. just haters

  • @783r1 Not this woodwind player!! Brass>woodwinds!! Believe me I have seen the light!

  • I'm trying to learn this...it's so hard to get the pitches right when you sing it and are playing

  • @insane437 Baadsvik advice: practice

  • *Throws balled up cum tissue in the trash*

  • Wow.

  • Took a week to figure out multiphonics, now just another year and a half to play this solo :)

  • @Customgamer9 it took me about 15 minutes to figure out how to play one. It's a heck of a lot difficult to play than it seems, especially changing what you are singing, but it's neat sounding once you figure out how to do it.

  • I'm sorry. Watching this, all I could think (through the chillbumps) was: "DAAAAMN! Handle yo' shit, son!"

awesome. tuba players stand taller after this.

  • Unglaublich was er mit der Tuba hinbekommt. Vor allem ist das ein richtiger Ohrwurm, wenn er richtig loslegt. Echt mal was anderes, und vor allem Klasse!

  • You can't help but feel like a crap tuba player after this lol

  • maravilloso...........................

  • i have never heard anything so amazing in my life.

  • i thought he normally played a gold Miraphone Norwegian Star, is this just the light or did he change tuba?

  • @tackledparsley It's probably just the light, since this tuba has rotary valves.

  • saw this as a trumpet play thought "wtf" came back a few months later as a tuba thought "OMG Best thing on Youtube!!!"

  • I LOVE DOING THIS AT HOME WITH MY TUBA!

  • i want to learn this song sooooooo baddddddd!!!!

  • 27 People play other instuments than tuba

  • Betachicken, let me explain the madness. This guy is insanely good and he makes tuba players want to bust a nut on their computer screen. That's about it

  • Can someone explain this madness to me?

  • @Betachiken "Its just a combination of double tonguing in the low range, using your diaphragm for accents, and singing while you play. Its very simple really......let me show you" - Oystein Baadsvik, he said this to me today.

  • could the spectator stop clapping like idiot , stop make ridiculous noise and act civilized ? bunch of retards you're wasting the solo !

  • this guy is awesome. he did a master class at my college one time. it was mandatory for all tuba students to attend. lol. so i got to meet him and laugh as he serenaded the only female player in the studio.

  • Baadsvik did it again: /watch?v=rj2YppM5GtM

  • Жир!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Simply masterful

  • soo much swagger

  • Fantastické !!!!!!!

  • Stop clapping!

  • Epic Tuba Guy.

  • because deep down... we all want to play the tuba

  • this is Chuck Norris's ringtone

  • This is freaking Sick!!! Sooooo hard to play though!!

  • タンギング神wwww

  • Don't you love how the audience always starts clapping in the wrong tempo in any video you see like this on youtube? Geez...

  • Gimme a whoop for all of my multiphonic brothers out there!

  • To all you clarinet players,

Relax would you. Take a joke. Geez.

    Woodwinds are so uptight sometimes.

I'm sorry if hurt your feeling clarinet players, but learn to take a joke.

    And please stop messaging me.

  • Awsum. Go tubas. We rock :)

  • No instrument can never be a solo intsrument. This is fuggin' amazing.

  • Totally excellent.

  • He is singing into his tuba for those who do not know.

  • 1:25 2 tubas

Where is the other tuba at lol. crazy awsome

  • @vitezism there aren't two tubas: he's singing while playing, called multiphonics.

  • @Fizban70x7 ... u think i didn't know that?

  • 4:02 WHAT??? how?????

  • Of course this tuba girl loves this!!!

  • I think this is still freaking amazing after watching it like a million times!!!!!!!!

  • So like, im working on doing this fur my band

  • i wish i had a rotary valve tuba i have pistons :p

  • nothing like the sound of a deep mellow brass note

  • i'm i the only one who thinks that he looks like Toby from the office?

  • 真的很神,雙音還有tuba的超高音,那根本就是到了小號的高音域了,從最低音、中音再到最高音,還有聲音大小,這需要用到極大的肺活量,看她臉不紅氣不喘的,真的很厲害。

  • I hope i can play like that some day :D

  • I have watching him preform Fnugg many times :) it´s not playback :D

  • I'm a Tuba player.

Why can't I even hold two tied whole notes?

    Ugh.

  • @92796Apollo I agree to your statement.

  • @92796Apollo its not hard, u just like, sing one of the notes in ur throat, while playing the other normally

    thats what i did anyway

  • @92796Apollo You could probably use some breath control. When you breathe, try saying "Home" as you breathe in - you'll fill from the bottom of your lungs and diaphragm, and you'll also be able to fill your lungs up more with a normal breath right after it. Easy way to double your lung capacity.

  • 27 people play woodwinds

  • @phantomverse

Actually I play the clarinet, and I didn't like the tuba, until this March (maybe because the tuba players around me are... ehm, nevermind), when I participated in an international music competition, where Baadsvik was a jury member. After the competition there was a jury's concert, and he played this piece (in solo version) on it. It was my best ever concert experience, it was fantastic to hear him live. Since then I like and respect the tuba. Thanks for sharing this awesome vid!

  • Where on earth did he found an all girl trumpet section?!

  • @GerryGuyCorpsGuy

I'd play the trumpet for him too :p

  • @GerryGuyCorpsGuy

I'd play the trumpet for him too :p

  • @GerryGuyCorpsGuy i dont care but mannnnn i want one or......five ;D

  • @GerryGuyCorpsGuy soviet russia

  • @GerryGuyCorpsGuy i have no idea but i want one almost as much as i want to be able to play this song

  • @GerryGuyCorpsGuy ummm there is clearly a guy second from the left. fail

  • @GerryGuyCorpsGuy my school haha

  • This is why I switched to the tuba after playing trombone for 3 and a half years

  • @SSgtM60Kitten God WISHES he could play like that...

  • the amazing thing about this is how in tune this is. he is playing/singing a perfect fifth most of the time. which is one of the hardest intervals to tune. plus there's the fact that his tone is wonderfully resonant while he is using multiphonics, and his singing voice through the horn doesnt sound bad either. and his beatboxing/sounds that come out of his horn at 6:03 are also impressive. Great josb, oystein!

  • amazing solo from every angle would love to play tuba

  • woot! I'm glad to play the same instrument as that guy

  • Oystein is a BEAST!

  • low brass is da boss!

  • o som q esse cara tira da tuba é otimo! muito bom!

o dia q eu sola assim eu nao quero mais nada!

  • Fuck the sax and trumpet....tubas are the shit!

  • @fresaw1 All the way, brotha!

  • epicXskateXteam's poorly spelt drivel is classic proof that an obvious troll is a boring troll

  • @epicXskateXteam

Shut the fuck up that guy is brilliant, if you don't think it is PISS OFF. Infact that is impossible thinking this is crap^^ Unless you are totally retarded

  • @epicXskateXteam tourettes guy.

  • I fucking love Dorian mode.

  • FUCK. the first trombone part was high as tits in this song. It was hard because we played high parts before that too. Jezus. I need to work on my endurance. But WOW. this guy is a god on tuba. bravo.

  • Damn, that make me want to return to Tuba after 15 years as a non player!!! Great play

  • Unbelievably great! I had no idea a tuba could sound like this, and the composition is just gorgeous! Thanks.

  • What tuba is this?

  • @TheHatTuba

It's a Mirafone Norwegian Star E-Flat Tuba, designed for the man himself (Baadsvik).

  • @crazygrainger2006 Thats what i thought until i saw the position of the leadpipe. doesnt match the 180 or 183 either.

  • @TheHatTuba

Øystein Baardsvik must've changed the position of the leadpipe to suit him. Probably this particular horn is different to the production model.

(just out of topic, I saw your comment in the Ray Mears exploding wasps video)

  • @crazygrainger2006 Found out this is his Hirsbrunner Eb before he moved to Miraphone

  • i played a concert with about 2 months ago :D was FUCKING awesome :D

  • wheres the autotune

  • I play tuba in 6th grade and I can not hold my breath for 8 accounts but my god he is one heck of a tuba player.

  • @redheadonfire

It's quite simple, although at first instead of going directly to the horn, try it with just your lips, it should only take a few tries. Next, you take it to the mouthpiece, same results, then take it to the horn. It should really only take a few days to make a good sound.

  • I learned some of the most valuable lessons about the tuba from Øystein himself, and then we had chicken wings. My life is now complete.

  • how does he do that? does he talk and blow at once?

  • @redheadonfire2 You sing while playing, its difficult at first, but becomes quite easy after some practice

  • @redheadonfire2 I think its called multi-phonics, or singing and playing at the same time!

  • @Motorfordtoyota It's actually called sing-play. I know it sounds a little silly, but it's true. Multiphonics is actually when you have certain fingerings that produce multiple tones, which you can't do on a tuba. I thought the same thing until my theory professor corrected me in a 20th century theory class.

  • @TheTubadude03 Oh, ok. Thanks.

  • so good i couldn't play tuba. i play tuba too!

  • so gut könnte ich nicht tuba spielen!! ich werde zwar erst 13 aber ich spiele auch Bb Tuba und wie hast du es hinbekommen so gut zu spielen???

  • woot learning this is soooo fun!!!! i just now need to get the order the different melodies are played in and then i can play it woot!!!

  • *head explodes*

  • O.o Holy cow this guy is amazing!

  • i think i saw one of my band directors, to bad there are no good shots of the band

  • Dude this guy is awesome

  • Wow! I'm pretty sure that I heard just about everything you can do with one horn in that video. There was the usual fundamental note of a tuba being played normally, a second note being "sung" into the mouthpiece, beat frequencies (which were sometimes musical) of those two notes, overtones and harmonics, and more modulation than a tuba should be able to produce. Amazing!

  • I understand what polyphonics are to an extent, but where does the didgeridoo-like drone sound come from? Is that just just a bi-product of singing while playing? I've experimented with it a little at home, but I am a trumpet player so trying to sing and play a tuba at once is way more air than I'm used to using. Anyone know?

  • @Kickerinthehead Because the mouthpiece of a Tuba is so big and the tubing soo wide, it alows the player to form vowel shapes and manipulate the pitches more easily. That's the digeridoo-like affect. It's also easier to do 10ths and 12ths and other large intervals on tuba. :) plus Oystein is ridiculous!

  • I'm pretty sure half of these views came from me.... =D

  • This guy is the Adam Rapa of tuba players.

  • how can you dislike this :D from a brass players point of view ..its the greatest song written for brass xD

  • Im part of the indiana all stat band and i played tuba and i thought we were good. that is amazing i bet you enjoy that so much

  • Throat singing already gives you 3 pitches, but it'd be hard to get the overtone while playing horn, so three is probably the limit. I think he's got three going.

  • 27 clarinet players watched this video.

  • @ChristieJCJ ? I play clarinet and I liked this video. Therefore your comment is invalid.

  • @ChristieJCJ Hey I'm a clarinet player, But music ed major that kinda wishes he had played brass...

  • @ChristieJCJ i am a clarinet player and i loved it

  • @ChristieJCJ hey hey hey, i'm a clarinet player and i LOVE this video.

  • thats sooo awesome in every single way i love it =D XD ^_^

  • If you played and throat sang at the same time, you could get 3 pitches theoretically but that seems impossible

  • i would learn tuba JUST to learn how to play like this, lol AWESOME

  • Shut up, dumb clapping audience. (That's the worst.) Love Fnugg!

  • We're gonna have a concert with him.

  • Saw this guy perform yesterday, sounded amazing and he even gave a class. Needless to say I learned a few things

  • He so great

  • do you

  • I play tuba

  • @4dadragonfire Along with almost all of those who commented on this. lol

  • TUBA HERO

  • this man is WOAH at tuba

  • ¡¡Fantástico!!

  • straordinario

  • I used this piece to try out for states now what am I suposed to do for regonals?

  • @Bucky0s

Play it half as good as Øystein does :)

  • If god was a tuba player this would him :}

  • @Samsaysful God -is- a Tuba Player.

  • @SSgtM60Kitten aim impressionade

  • @SSgtM60Kitten close but he plays Euphonium

  • @SmokinA55 Sure he does, he plays the Tenor Tuba whenever he's not playing a full tuba. (Pro Tip: Euphs are called Tenor Tubas in some circles.)(But naw, I respect Euphs.)

  • the key to do this is to like play it and sing. lets say its a euphonium and you start in a C to play regular but you sing to and you sing in a G then you will get this song. this is simply explained.

  • i wish i could play tuba that good

  • Oh man. He sounds like a euphonium on some parts, especially the beginning. That's some high tuba work.

  • I wish I could fucking play this. Holy crap.

  • Holy. Fucking. Shit.

  • HE IS MY IDOL!!!! U ROCK MAN!

  • i love to play tuba but this is amazing!!!!!!!!!!!

  • That's my Instument!!!!

  • Bravo! Cheers from Brazil

  • i think that's a miraphone

  • @android16B a miraphone is larger

  • I got to see Oystein live with a pianist in Northfield Minnesota a few years ago. It was an entertaining concert and I left wanting more. It was fantastic. If you ever get the chance I urge you to see him live. Miraphone - who makes some of the best tubas available - made the Norwegian Star series of EE flat Tubas in collaboration with Oystein. I cant think of a higher recognition in the field of tuba playing than that.

  • Just started playing the tuba after years on the trombone - what an amazing instrument. Not sure I will be able to do this !!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Hammer, einfach nur der Hammer...

    Der Kerl hats richtig drauf!

    Top

  • OMG IT TOOK ME A WHILE TO CLUE IN HES USING HARMONICS!!!! OMG THIS IS LIKE!!! WOO! yeh tuba!! and im a french horn player so im not some tubist just sayin that!!

  • wow I play Tenor trombone and I have a newfound respect for the tuba

  • I'm taking my tuba home tonight to learn multiphonics.

  • People that would dislike this video are ether jealous that they can't play like him or they don't like this type of music but still why would you listen to something you don't like?

  • I PLAY tuba and piano. I make noise (working on getting to the point where I play) clarinet.

  • who's that faggot with the tuba?

  • @Kjonas171 lol touretts guy

  • He play too whit our orchestra a big concert this year. It was one of the beautifully things I ever hear *dreaming*

and he gave too a tuba workshop.

Before the concert I can speak whit him and he is very nice, not like a big star more then a normal man :-o he learns me too some norwegian words i need, because i should tell the audience all about him, the songs and so on...

And he give me a sign... :-) *be lucky*

    sorry for my bad englisch...

  • Wow that guy is amazing I'm in 8th grade and been in varsity for 2 years and play the tuba...tuba beeast!!!

  • Comment removed

  • @thefallout3freek

    > 8 grade

    >> Varsity for 2 years

wtf are you talking about. middle school = 7th & 8th grade. varsity is high school, so what are you saying?

  • @ericplayzbass2 he is a dumbass, lets face it

  • My jaw was literally dropped entirely after he introduced multiphonics.

  • @professionalassasin is that were he sings and plays at the same time, i learned how to that in 8th grade

  • @UhopIhop1997 yea but multiphonics is something that takes years to master. it requires a perfect ear and LOTS of breath support to sustain buzzing and singing. notice how when you introduce multiphonics, you feel like your lips want to slow down dramatically. to match a pitch in singing and playing at the same time is not just "something you learn in 8th grade".
