Underground, Muhlenbrink's, Flaming Hurricanes and the essential ingredient -Piano Red (may he RIP!)! Lucky to have heard him there different times in '72 & '73, unforgettable! I appreciate finding his music posted, hope more people get to hear him.
I loved Piano Red and wrote a song called "Piano Red" the day after his reposed. I wrote it that morning and recorded it that evening at New Age Studio in Atlanta, with the group City Lights - a local weekend band. If you were a fan of Mr Perryman, you might enjoy hearing my tribute to him. I have the song up on my page.
I WAS RAISED IN ATLANTA AND BACK IN THE 50S AND 60S MR. PERRYMAN WAS THE RAGE AND HALF OF ATLANTA WENT AROUND SAYING "YOU GOT THE RIGHT STRING BABY, BUT THE WRONG YO YO" :-) :-). HE PLAYED THE AFRICAN AMERICAN CLUBS DOWN ON DECATUR ST. IN ATLANTA. HE WAS AN ATLANTA ICON. A REAL SHOWMAN, THAT LOVED HIS MUSIC AND FANS.

There's even a better version on another album that was recorded in his living room in Atlanta (with a small choir). I've been working on a Piano Red documentary for a couple years. Footage of him is impossible to find.
Willie (Piano Red) Perryman was the younger brother (by 18yrs) of Rufus (Speckled Red) Perryman. Rufus was born in 1894 (d. 1972) and Willie was born in 1912 (d. 1983, I believe?)
Hey, thanks for putting this up, I love Piano Red! Is this really from a club that he played at? Do you have any more recordings like this, is it from an album or a bootleg? Thanks again, this is great!
This was recorded in Mulehbrinks in Underground Atlanta. There are more recordings. Lion Records in the UK did three albums. I played with Red in the mid to late 80's until he passed.
@mjjcmjjc What a honor! This music is not heard or known to many blues fans that I know. I wish you fortune and well being. Truly hope that his fans here can create such a documentary as jet1826 above talks about.
Both Piano Red and Speckled Red played this song, but apparently they never performed together.
This recording is cool because after ten million performances Piano Red still put some new licks in there.
Piano Red was a DJ on WAOK in Atlanta, used to play records and piano for two hours every afternoon.

Perryman was an albino African American, as was his older brother Rufus, who also had a blues piano career as "Speckled Red".

I'll always love Piano Red! If you came to one of his performances, he wanted you to leave your blues outside!

I met Red several times. He used to play dances and parties where I lived. He was wonderful! I've seen him perform this track many times.

Thanks! Well, he had to be. Bet there weren't many albino barrelhouse piano players around, named Red.

@Brutus2 Speckled Red is his older brother. 14 years his senior.
