  • yeah, i did the first part hx :)

  • take it slower next time

  • Nice tutorial!

I was wondering if you knew what this problem is:

Whenever I tap with my right hand I can hear two notes, one is the note I wish to play and the other is metallic sounding and dissonant. When I mute the left slide of the string I can't hear it... I think it might be something to do with overtones or something?

    How can I avoid this?

  • @ablindbadger I have a Taylor 214CE if that helps...

  • he sounds like Michael cane

  • I'm learning this before i die!

  • You sound like Simon Cowell :D

  • Excellent lesson with detailed walkthrough!

Can´t understand why 5 people would dislike this at all. This is free for download on mattsguitarlessons.co.uk :)

  • Matt you the fucking man!!!!

  • Thank you for this!

  • I have problem with the E string resonating when I slap the guitar, so the sound is less crisp :\

any tips to make it sound more crisp?

  • @kunjoaquin4syth I'm not sure what you mean...maybe reply by private message and I can advise you on this.

  • @kunjoaquin4syth The song is played in D standard tuning DADGAD that might be the issue since it is a droped tuning thats why it doesnt sound so crisp maybe

  • @asshat95 Thanks man, yeah the DADGAD tuning has helped :)

  • @asshat95 DADGAD isn't D standard, D standard is DGCFAD. Just so you know.

  • @kunjoaquin4syth There shouldn't be an E-string, it's tuned in DADGAD.

I slap the middle two strings (3rd and 4th) on the metal fret between the 11th and 12th to get the best sound out of it.

    I hope this was usefull!

  • @kunjoaquin4syth drop d

  • How hard is this song 1 to 10 Scale? Drifting sounds amazing but Tough?

  • @MrMoney12345678 Very tough to learn, you need to be able to multitask on a guitar well

  • @MrMoney12345678 It all depends, for me it was pretty easy, yet the hard part is at the beginning, when you want to have all of the parts playing at once. But after a while you'll get the hand of it. I'd say its somewhere near a 6 or 7

  • WOW. i have looked EVERYWHERE but nobody shows how to do that beginning slap pattern! you helped so much!!

  • stop holding your nuts.

  • I live in Llanelli, do you do lessons?

  • @Brainyy297 Hey, small world. My 'lovely' home town! I live in Swansea now and I do give lessons...Are you able to travel to Swansea ever for lessons? Send me an email via my site and we can sort something out.

  • very good and very useful.. thanks a lot

  • i have a semi acoustic and the knobs are right where im supposed to hit....

  • nice

  • and who said guys is cabable of doing only one thing at the same time?

  • @Deriviado Women...

  • thanks for the post. I still have some cleaning up to do. this tune always seemed intimidating, but now I can struggle through it and at times make it work. Thanks again.

  • Yur a good instructor! Do you teach? And where?

  • @silverguitar4 Hi, yes I do. I live in Swansea UK...probably half the way round the world from you...

  • @matt301273 i love swansea!!! :D

  • This is one of the best guitar tutorials i have found online, not just for this song, but in general. It has been incredibly helpful and thank you so much for posting. Keep up the good work!

  • Good tutorial, mate, well done. The guitar seems about 1/4 step flat, btw, maybe 437mhz A, almost as if you were tuned to accompany an accordion.

  • Best tutorial ive seen. Thank you :)

  • This is really helpful thanks heaps :)

  • strange - it´s really amazing... LIKE IT!!!!

  • 6 D - 5 A - 4 D - 3 G - 2 A - 1 D

  • 09:30 : ddd daaa pac !... dddd da dada puc !... Good and funny xD

  • This tutorial is really awesome! It's easy to follow and you explain the song very well. Yesterday I started practicing it, but after a couple of hours my left hand started hurting really badly... So now it seems, that my left tendon (for the index finger) has been overburdened, and I can't play guitar for a couple of days to a week... Boohoo..! :(

  • Nice Job Matt, thank you for posting this vid. Dont stop trying to teach people what you can do just because some frustrated guitar player tells you that you suck....

  • @matt301273 you absolutely did a great job. It's thanks to guys like you young guys like me keep practising and loving guitar.

  • @matt301273 i think maybe you're just mad because you suck at guitar.... who knows

  • @jollypapabear Wow...That's so perceptive of you to just see through me like that. Yes, I'm mad because I suck at guitar...I never thought anyone would find out...But now the truth is out and I just have to deal with it.

  • Just buy the official Tab and play along with Andy, why does everyone need hour long tutorials nowadays?

The tab shows you how to play it properly.

  • @jollypapabear

dude ur such a dumbass, y do u feel the need to say he got pawned, he didnt at all.....

yr just an idiot enpough said.....

  • mate, just wanted to say this is unequivocally the best tutorial ive found for this song. i dont even really know how to play guitar (being a drummer by training) and after spending a week studying ur tutorial i've got the basic thing down! well done and thanks!

  • great lessons keep on pickin & grinnin bro

  • wow all my grats to that guy

  • @bobd9705 Good point.

  • @matt301273 Although...as proficient as you are at playing Drifting, it obviously couldnt hurt for someone wanting to advance their guitar skills to check out your website. You've got it going on over there.

  • sounds just like jermaine clement from Flight of the Conchords

  • amazing job man i wish you lived in my country so you can teach me i would pay you 1000$ for n hour

andy mckee will never teach me stuff like that XD

  • just watch prisa plays andy mckee drifting, :) but its not a tutorial its just a cover but her cover inspired me alot and i use her cover to learn the drifting :)

  • Prisa jg bisa tuh....ane kagak....heheee

  • I really like it:) I have a classical guitar..I wanna practise this song with it.But I don't know how to play.Thks for all:) Very 9

  • lol this song is easy as anything your better just going for the tabs

  • Your guitar sounds awesome

  • @matt301273 Nice to see somebody with a sense of humour for once. Thank you!

  • good job man!

  • thank you for putting the tutorial online. that really helped and it was very generous of you to dedicate an hour to make this

  • is there a part 2 somewhere cuz i cant find it. lol

  • thisa guys class thanks you very much!

  • wild bro ,,,awsome

  • Wow Acoustic High Class. Can You Imagine How Great This Guy will Be On Heavy Metal Tapping. . .

  • even tho its 10 mins, it did help me to correct my timing and some notes, nonetheless thank you matt :0)

  • Cheers.

  • Hey Matt great guitar playing mate, im just learning and picked up on one of your lessons for Norwegin wood, my fingers are killing rite now haha but enjoyed the lesson and will go back and keep practicing using your lesson. Love this tune think Andy McKee is a legend and you do this song good justice. Keep up the postings mate thanks

  • so what guitar strings sound better heavier ones or lighter?

  • @TashaLee5ive Alright. I think that slightly on the heavier side would be better but it's also a question of personal preference. I used 12s in this I think

  • @TashaLee5ive dont matter u got stong hands use strong ones u got weak ones use weak onces strings are made that way for a reason due to some players.

  • @TashaLee5ive : lighter stings are WAY better for this one dude. I've tried both and i cannot get the good rich tone with heavy strings like i can with lights. I highly prefer Elixer nanowebs for this song. check out my cover!

  • really good! learning this take a lot of time ....

  • thanks for spending 2 minutes on showing me how to fucking smack the guitar twat

  • @truegirl2anna ...Erm...you're welcome. I think. But most people just call it a guitar.

  • hey matt. I was wondering what guage strings do you use on your acoustic guitar .

  • Hi. I think they were pretty heavy...Like 12s or even 13s...

  • I bought a guitar specifically to learn this song. I bought your lesson it's awesome took me a month to get the whole thing down even though I admit it's a little sloppy. My first song ever learned is drifting. Now I'm obsessed with learning Rylynn but I'm afraid I won't be able to without someone holding my hand all the way through.

  • Ha ha. Your a total beginner and you went for drifting as your first song?! You must need a wheelbarrow for those balls my friend. I haven't done a Rylyn lesson because I don't like the tune much but I did an Ebon Coast one

  • @matt301273 hahaha i think that's pretty impressive. or stupid either one:) works either way!

  • hey where do i go to buy the rest of this lesson?

  • great vid man!

  • Really cool lesson man! Wish i could see the rest of it on Youtube too... ;) Keep on rockin!

  • great playing man forget these haters

  • Good job, bro! Don't pay attention to all those =Guitar Experts= loool Good job! Awesome! Keep up good work!

  • nao entendi nada

  • someone's got a bit carried away with a nice bit of cheap plug in reverb .... swashy low end mess ruining a perfect performance

  • Yeah I agree. But we have to make these mistakes to learn and move on. Now I have a proper condenser mic and use much subtler reverb as will be evidenced on my upcoming Ebon Coast lesson

  • terrible lesson dude

    "just hit the strings" lol

  • I don't know if you are all fucking blind or what. Read the title. It says 1st ten minutes. The whole lesson lasts over an hour. See the url in the video. Now, can any of you guess what that url means?

  • hehe i thought you did great!!!

  • Guitar instructors get their reputations not only by playing good, but by being Polite, and nice. You may be good, but you're not the nicest of the bunch.

  • @matt301273 they are youtubers, most barely have the patience for ten minutes anyways. Don't let the tards get to ya.

  • heyy! what can i do to learn the rest of the song off you?? =]

thanks!! this helped me heaps with the beginning! haha i just have to learn how to play to next bit now =]

    x

  • that's cool..thankz

  • where is the second part?

  • at the website url

  • thanx man ill probobly sub

  • thank you man. I'll try to learn it ;)

  • can u please make a tutorial on nakagawa san by andy mckee? PLEASE!

  • dose it works on electric guitar? cuz i dont have Acoustic or classic donno what guitar is this

  • what fail ? wtf

  • @SIipknoTl

No, it wouldn't work very well on an electric at all, unless it happened to be a full hollowbody. Part of playing this song is the slapping on the guitar, which you can't really do very well on an electric. The guitar here is an acoustic.

  • =( its hard 4 me anyway am still a begginer =P maybe ill try this when i get a acoustic guitar =P and thx for reply

  • Thanks, Matt! I've been wanting to learn this. If I purchase the lessons, does it tell me if I need to tune my guitar a certain way?

  • Hi. Yeah the lesson gives the tuning and goes into a lot of detail...

  • tuning is DADGAD

  • How do i tune my guitar like that,,,i dnt think i could do it by ear

  • From the thickest to the thinnest string it is DADGAD. I'm sure your tuner can handle it....

  • Sound great if you do some hand "triplet" tapping in the intro.

  • great lesson but where is the second part of it?????

  • You can buy it from my website. This video is just a shameless advert

  • Aw, thank you for a quick reply. My mic sounds just awful, thinking of buying a cheap pickup which will be better than this crap ;/ Once again, great lessons!! Guys buy them, you won't regret it!!!

  • Amazing stuff. I was wondering what pickup did you use on that, it sound really great!!! Please write back I really would like to know.

    Cheers

  • I just used a cheap mono mic and ran it into the video camera and then added some reverb in the editing program. I didn't use a pick up

  • you sound like simon from american idol!!!! hah.

  • Kasey. There are only so many words I can drag out from my vocabulary to describe how utterly dreadful that comment was. It's a 'no' from me I'm afriad. Paula?

  • well i just meant the accent or watever, lol. oh and by the way your really good, how long did it take you to learn it completely?

  • Yeah, just kidding. I like Simon cowell though. It took me about a year to learn this smoothly. Now I play it better and now and now I would record it better. Way too much low end.

  • haha, me too.

and dang! a year? wow lol.

oh well, its worth it. ha, this song is so pretty.

i've kinda learned it, but still have a ways to go.

  • Hi, I have spent the past year devoted to learning 'Ebon Coast' down to the very last detail. That will be my next Andy Mckee lesson out in about a month or so...

  • ebon coast is relativly easy :D its really pretty to play but so hard to make sound full every little bit matters from the slapping to the accents in the bassnote its a beautiful song

  • dawg, you forgot about me...

  • i don't buy sorry

    xD

  • do you have the the second part? are you going to upload or did you just erase?

  • You can buy the whole lesson from the website for three pounds

  • thrid comment !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Did they delete your videos?? What the hell? ;/

  • Hi. No, I deleted them. You can download the video from my website for 3 pounds. I uploaded the whole lesson yesterday in a fit of stupid overgenerosity.
