I'm considering a trip from Lyon to Nice in May 2012. Any suggestions about the LEAST gear to carry (lightweight camping), weather prevention equipment (i.e. hats, suncream, raingear), gites to stay in, B&B's, quality of sideroads or cycling paths / road shoulders, websites to see the altitude of a day's cycling, distances per day (I'm old but not dead yet!) etc. etc. Cheers - Fred (Australia)
Thanks Brendon

@colacadm Hi mate
Sounds like a nice route, nice is lovely so is lyon and may in the perfect time too!!!
I had a one man tent and mixed it up with hostels, hyst two rear panniers as you saw in the vid prob.
I only did about 40 miles a day proper cruising It felt more like a holiday than it would have with 80/day.
The only thing I did wrong was a seat pin clamping pannier..... was lucky it didn't snap off.
Just cardboard up your bike - ride - and get some more in nice for the flight back! enjoy b
