A timeless musical masterpiece that not only has stood the test of time but will forever resonate with true music lovers of this world even to the end of this existence. A must have on your "the world is ending" playlist
@TheSchaney True, you're right.Maybe it's the bad memories I associate with some of the music from the 90's.I don't know but I do like alot of the bands and artists you listed in your comment.I guess I was referring to the "pop" music of the 90's.lol.You know how everyone's opinions vary on music. My opinions are just for me,I intend to force them upon anyone.
I had a dream that my truck broke down and Paul McCartney was the tow truck driver picking me up. And this song was blaring through his speakers. I haven't heard this song in what feels like years. But Paul McCartney and Zeppelin in one dream? Mind Blown.
this song is okay but kind of to hippy-like. the hell w/ hippys ...long live led zeppelin. hippys smell bad & you all to soon realize where they work. usually no where. ha ha ha. long live led zeppelin.
Great song by one of the greatest bands. Love the Tolkien influence for the song. Sandy Denny is great as well. She was in the bands Fairport Convention, The Strawbs, and Fotheringay. Check those bands out if you get a chance
this song is about a war that never ends,a fight with in all people throughtout all time.motal never know because they dont believe.they think its a song is about a movie.
@highball1963 If you're talking about The Lord of the Rings, you NEVER call it a movie you idiot. It is a book, and it is legen - wait for it - DARY. And this song does have one definite reference to LoTR, and several that seem likely. So learn what you're talking about before you say it.
@SteveDude64 One of my favourite books by the way, Actually, there are two thing i love; Zep and Tolkien, so this song is AWESOME. You've got my thumb up ;)
This song was about the hobbit, like many other zeppelin songs such as kashmir. I really hope there are some zeppelin songs in the new hobbit movie coming out this year.
In concert, Jones sang Sandy Denny's part. Sometimes John Bonham sang instead of Jones. For those who don't know, Sandy Denny was the guest vocalist singing with Plant in this song. She passed away in 1978 at the age of 31.
I used to have sex to this song back in the 90's in highschool lol.TMI,inno, but still a good choice for a teenager back then(the song anyways lol).90's music sucked,so I was into Zeppelin,Pink Floyd, ect.Glad I was, bcoz it paved the way for my musical mind of 2day!
@doublemcnasty 90's music sucked? That's your opinion and you're aloud to have it. I disagree and so does Jimmy Page and Robert Plant. Thought you should know that. I mean, c'mon man, bands like Pearl Jam, Nirvana, STP, Radiohead, Soundgarden, Blind Melon, Alice in Chains, Beck, Chili Peppers, The Smashing Pumpkins, 2Pac, NIN, Jeff Buckley, Weezer, Def Tones, DMB, The Fugees, Lenny Kravitz, OutKast, Jewel, Natalie Merchant, Sheryl Crow, Biggie, TLC, Pantera, Wilco, Blues Traveler, etc.....
@TheSchaney I'm an Old School dude. But, those bands that you mentioned are the last great "rocker-type" bands worth their salt. I dig the STP's and Pearl Jam and the Chili Peppers and Collective Soul...the sad part is this: all of those bands combined can't touch the Zeppelin. It ain't even close...
if u dont like this song ur probably gay.. and if ur gay u probably suck dick.. and if u suck did ur no friend of led zeppelin. keep fag trolls out of youtube.
god this is such a nice song :) after that Black Dog and Rock And Roll mess this is a relaxing ride towards the stairway. not knocking Black Dog and RnR they are great songs but imo they are a bit overrated and compared to this and stairway they're kinda obnoxious. if the sides of their fourth album were arranged for one to have light songs and the other to have heavy songs i'd place this first then four sticks then going to california then stairway. other side: Black Dog, MM, RnR, levee
The voices just match, Allison Krause may have bean as good but Plant's tone is not what it used to be so this will always be the the absolute best. Sandy Denny rules.
I think all the fuss about the Zep ripping off other people is bullshit... Everybody is a thief in this world.. They were more than brilliant and I'm not even an hardore Zep fan.. actually in my youth Iwas more into Can, Beefheart and The Stooges to tell you the truth.. but come on enjoy the music and stop being the Big White Musicologist Purist
Willy Dixon sued Zep over copyrite infringement and won himself some money, but he was one who may have benefitted most from the British blues-rock invasion. He wrote some of the better songs that had appeal to the lads, and were more friendly to the heavy metal arrangements favored by us whites. So some of us honkies were actually the best thing that ever hapened for them. Besides inventing instruments like pianos- guitars -drum kits- basses organs-harmonicas amplifiers and P.A's on and on.
Zep and others may have taken liberties with some songs by old black bluesmen, but BB King admits that WITHOUT those brillant young ENGLSH ROCKERS American blues artists would never have been known to the world. He was virtually in tears when he said a very heartfelt thank you to the lads from England for resurrecting interest in those old tunes and saving them and allowing them to be known, and to finally start making some good money. Black bluesmen love Zep- R-Stones Clapton and J-Beck a lot.
@Fiaganja Plant is the greates singer who ever lived whats wrong with you seriously, trolling isnt cool just because you cant get any and dont like Zeppelin doesnt give you the right to say that I mean seriously get your life together
@Memnoch67 Led Zep knew that and made every effort to get her to perform with them. I guess that's why she was the only 'external' performer to be given a place on their album covers
@zzhamstring Sandy Denny is on this version. JPJ did her part on the live versions with Zep that can be seen on youtube. Very funny cause he's off key and Robert's amused. There is a version with Plant Page with Najma Atkar on focals but to me this version is brilliant and impossible to surpass, though Ann and Nancy Wilson do a good cover.
@alexvlk yeah i don't know..but i know i wouldn't want the job of putting a greatest hits album together for zeppelin..i would end up choosing all of their songs haha
@mocatmon=just saw a documentary about her..good but sadly 85% talk & 15% music/perf clips..but they did have a clip of this remarkable song from a live perf in 1966
"Green Grows the Laurels"..(look it up on youtube)=it is just heartbreakingly beautiful & higher lighter & more delicate than later on as here (its on Live at the BBC-Sandy Denny
Universal 948 992-8 (3CD + DVD, UK, September 10, 2007) according to internet). a great loss. Allison Krause DOES do nice versions of this live2!
My friends and I made a music video for this as a project lol production was so fucking fun because we redid the actual Battle of Evermore from LoTR :D
Led Zeppelin brought Sandy Denney in to do this song; I thought this was brilliant and genus, very original, another great achievement for Led Zeppelin and Rock.
@alexvlk I think compilations are more about sales. Sometimes, it's about the band's personal choice, but with a sales giant like Zep, I don't think it'd be that common for that.
@missvintagemercury Yes, I think this is my favorite Led track too! I like all their songs, but this one stands out and never gets much airplay on rock radio.
