What you wanna do first is get a headspin by tapping only, after you master tapping u can move on to whipping.

Your neck is strong enough to do this. The helmet is just to make it easier to spin on your head. Beanies can be used to. You actually don't have to put anything on your head, but with something there you go faster and longer.
