i think the one minor detail that slightly bother me is why in the hell would you put ditch lights on a steam engine? but other than that great video i relly enjoy seeing steam shake off the age and put on a good show.

The ditch lights were apparently the choice of the LASTA. Ditch lights are not required on steam locomotives, and that fact is very clearly stated in the FRA documents concerning them. Ever wonder why UP 844, UP 3985, SP 4449, SP&S 700, NKP 765, PM 1225, and pretty much every other steam engine that runs over the main doesn't have them?

I LOVE Steam Locomotives and have been working to bring them back. The fuel will be different but still in steam power. Horsepower and torque will be much greater.

Figured I'd vent some steam on the same little troll( Cockroach2008) thats been spewing his garbage on other steam engine videos first.I guess trolls like him are quickly banned on web forums so they flock here like, well, cockroaches because no one is here to ban them. How sad they are.
Perhaps someone could help themselves to the whistle, bell, airpump, driving linkage, gauges, hoses and other parts which can be removed for some quick cash!
It should be scrapped. By doing so, we can put Americans back to work and help in a small way correct the economic recession this country is going through.

This thing is a junker for sure! It missed it's date with the scrappers torch 60 years ago.
Time to roll that thing into the scrap iron yard and let us start cutting it down. I am figuring the fewest cuts necessary to get the most pieces into the warm glow of a blast furnace. It would look so good to me there.

It is not economical to operate. It serves no useful purpose other than an amusement.
The materials can be reused to make new efficient transportation products. You may successfully argue that the steam locomotive is efficient. However, all costs, including maintenance, make the steam locomotive a looser. That is the main reason the railroad got rid of them.
Put it in the scrap heap, part it out, junk it out, cut it down and melt it down.
Steam locomotives are historical, they are a critical part of our history as a nation, and we need to keep working examples of them around to remind ourselves of where we have come from. Horse and buggys are not exactly efficent modes of transportation either. It is the same thing. Steam locomotives are beatiful to watch, and looking at them in a museum is not the full effect.
Beautiful to watch? A mater of opinion and most other folks who would watch this in the first place dissagree with you!
An advantage of operating a steam engine for amusement is that people can actually relive the past and see what it was like when there parents or grandparents or greatgreandparents wanted to travel somewhere they would take a steamtrain.
Furthermore if you can agree that a steam engine has historic value then why do you think they should be scraped?
This engine featured in the video is operated by the non-profit and voulenter staffed Louisiana Steam Train Association, the laws of expensive labor costs are diffrent with such a group.
The engine is a peice of history and carries out a unique purpose in it's home state that no other type of engine could do. I belive that for that reason and others, cuting her up coudl not be justified.
It is 60 years past it's date with scrappers torch.
The non-profit group and the Louisiana Steam Train Association is wasting their time and holding onto a junker which could be melted and the materials used to make new high technology products.
History belongs in the pages of a book.
I would like to see this clunker wrecked & junked. It should be melted and made into manhole covers, storm drain grates or anchor chain for ocean going vessels.

@TravisCyprien Yes, I have seen a steam locomotive operate. It was a polluting mess. It was a wonder to watch it break down before departure & it never left the station. All fares had to be refunded, but the non profit requested everyone forfeit the fare as a donation. Out of 284 passengers only 6 agreed. At least I was not on that junker! I could not care if anyone's crotch fruit ever sees a steam locomotive. That is what history books, photographs & films are for.

@Kleman09 Maybe so, but a 747 jumbo jet goes much farther & disperses that carbon foot print over a greater area. Therefore, the aircraft is less polluting when considering the amount of pollutants & the area it covers.

The steam locomotive makes great targets for those who sport high powered rifles. Shooting out the headlights or marker lights is not a bad past time, but even better is puncture one of the steam lines running the outside length of the machine.
When you see the water vapor spray, you had a great shot! But of course, you will need some practice! So bring plenty of rounds & practice on those headlights & marker lights!

There is no such thing as a night watchman for a ship's boilers. During watch keeping there is always an officer (4th in my case) and at least 1 engine room rating on duty who are responsible for the whole engine room and during UMS (night time when at sea and the engineers are on day work) there is always 1 officer and 1 rating on call to respond to any alarms and call for assistance if needed. Do your homework before making such remarks.

The ditch lights were apparently the choice of the LASTA. Ditch lights are not required on steam locomotives, and that fact is very clearly stated in the FRA documents concerning them. Ever wonder why UP 844, UP 3985, SP 4449, SP&S 700, NKP 765, PM 1225, and pretty much every other steam engine that runs over the main doesn't have them?

I LOVE Steam Locomotives and have been working to bring them back. The fuel will be different but still in steam power. Horsepower and torque will be much greater.

This thing is a junker for sure! It missed it's date with the scrappers torch 60 years ago.
Time to roll that thing into the scrap iron yard and let us start cutting it down. I am figuring the fewest cuts necessary to get the most pieces into the warm glow of a blast furnace. It would look so good to me there.
Park it, part it, junk it, cut it, melt it.
Perhaps, there are some people who could get some of this scrap and turn it in for money! Midnight acquisitions do well to junk this!

It is not economical to operate. It serves no useful purpose other than an amusement.
The materials can be reused to make new efficient transportation products. You may successfully argue that the steam locomotive is efficient. However, all costs, including maintenance, make the steam locomotive a looser. That is the main reason the railroad got rid of them.
Put it in the scrap heap, part it out, junk it out, cut it down and melt it down.

Steam locomotives are historical, they are a critical part of our history as a nation, and we need to keep working examples of them around to remind ourselves of where we have come from. Horse and buggys are not exactly efficent modes of transportation either. It is the same thing. Steam locomotives are beatiful to watch, and looking at them in a museum is not the full effect.

This engine featured in the video is operated by the non-profit and voulenter staffed Louisiana Steam Train Association, the laws of expensive labor costs are diffrent with such a group.
The engine is a peice of history and carries out a unique purpose in it's home state that no other type of engine could do. I belive that for that reason and others, cuting her up coudl not be justified.

The non-profit group and the Louisiana Steam Train Association is wasting their time and holding onto a junker which could be melted and the materials used to make new high technology products.
History belongs in the pages of a book.
I would like to see this clunker wrecked & junked. It should be melted and made into manhole covers, storm drain grates or anchor chain for ocean going vessels.

My question to you is have you ever been to see a steam locomotive in action. In record a steam locom otive is consider to be known as (all the moving parts on the out side). Plus if you just caring about your job as scraper, just to make a quick buck then you are wasting your time. Think of children how they feel if they don't see a steam train.

@TravisCyprien Yes, I have seen a steam locomotive operate. It was a polluting mess. It was a wonder to watch it break down before departure & it never left the station. All fares had to be refunded, but the non profit requested everyone forfeit the fare as a donation. Out of 284 passengers only 6 agreed. At least I was not on that junker! I could not care if anyone's crotch fruit ever sees a steam locomotive. That is what history books, photographs & films are for.

@headmouse Steam locomotives are much worse! They pollute far worse & breakdown far more often. They cannot hold up very well. The maintenance costs are killing them. If they were that much better, the railroads would be clamouring to have them built. It isn't nor will it happen in this country.
We thank the steam locomotive for it's contribution but it is now time to put them all in the furnaces for melting!

The steam locomotive makes great targets for those who sport high powered rifles. Shooting out the headlights or marker lights is not a bad past time, but even better is puncture one of the steam lines running the outside length of the machine.
When you see the water vapor spray, you had a great shot! But of course, you will need some practice! So bring plenty of rounds & practice on those headlights & marker lights!

There is no such thing as a night watchman for a ship's boilers. During watch keeping there is always an officer (4th in my case) and at least 1 engine room rating on duty who are responsible for the whole engine room and during UMS (night time when at sea and the engineers are on day work) there is always 1 officer and 1 rating on call to respond to any alarms and call for assistance if needed. Do your homework before making such remarks.
