Just putting this out there for fans who don't mind death of pokémon, In Pokémon Special Manga they do show Pokémon dying, like charmeleon cutting Arbok in half which killed it. You can find it on one manga if you want to see, even so its not all that gorey.

I actually dunno if a "serious" Pokemon game would work. The script may or may not fit the feel of the game, and the presence of cute Pokemon may ruin the dark and edgy image that they would try to create. Also, seeing some of said cute Pokemon die a gruesome death every single battle would put quite a few of the fans up in arms.

Besides, Colosseum and XD were a bit less light and fluffy than usual.

If you are looking for a more "serious" version of Pokémon, then I suggest you look into the Pokémon Adventures/Pocket Monsters SPECIAL comic series. Since the entire story doesn't revolve around one main character, the plot is somewhat more complex. I think the antagonists are more malicious too.
