I think you are talking about Jerez in 1997 when Schumacher ran into the sidepod of Jaques Villeneuve's Williams Renault at Dry Sack corner. And not to mention Schumacher's antics in Monaco of 2006

Schumi isn't too old the problem is that he gave up the sport for too many years.

It's just like Michael Jordan coming back after a few years off or Tiger Woods after a 1 year injury - there's "rust".

To be at the top 1% requires many years of an accumulated affinity. Taking any time off impacts consistency drastically so they perform at the highest level less frequently.

What sets the best apart is that they can compete at the highest level for longer than anyone else.

@kosai19 I totally agree with you. You must be consistent when you're in a sport. The rule of thumb is: for every practice you miss, you must do five practices in order to make up for it. And with mid-season testing banned, this is simply not possible.

I think it is a dream come true for Lewis to race against Schumacher, let's face it he has no other 'real' competition out there....and to race against Schumi and BEAT him well that will just prove that Lewis has got what it takes!!

@Killerqueen303 at the end of the day sucess in F1 really comes down to who has the best car. Last year Button winning is proof of that. I dont think anyone would rate Button as the best driver in F1. So the car has more to do with it then anything else. If Mercedes Benz has a great car, and Mclarens car this year isnt as good, it wont really matter if Hamilton is better then Schumacher.

@DHumpas you're predictions were right, its the end of the season and most journalist are saying this is one of the best and most closely fought season for a while. last race is abu dhabi, sadly hamilton is pretty much out, so i wish webber to win this championship. alonso cheated quite badly with massa and vettel got favouritism from redbull. i really hope next year schumi gets a race winning car so everyone can shut up, he drove really well in the last 4 races(better than Button)

@soureysen Totally man. Just a complete disgrace that Vettel won it. Webber deserved it more than anyone. He's had no luck in F1 so far. Had reliability problems with the car, got involved in some crappy accidents, and Red Bull have obvious favouritism towards Vettel. Webber's wins this year have been outstanding though. Search "Mark Webber Monaco Pole Lap 2010" if you've not seen it already. It's nothing short of breathtaking.

@Slashbag69 i've watched every single race this season. redbull deserved the constructors title since they have the best car. webber deserved the championship more that vettel and alonso.but the most deserving would be hamilton, cause he has the 3rd best car on the grid, had 3 DNF where he should have finished high in points and still managed to be in title contention till the last race. if hamilton were in that redbull, he would have won the title a long time ago.

The next season is going to be highly dependent on the chassis these guys are driving. Ferrari has already publicly stated their new chassis is not quite up to what they wanted, but who knows what that means. Should Brawn pull off another fabulous car this season, it's all over for everyone else. Brawn and Schumacher seem to have the magic touch. All 7 of Schumy's title were with Brawn, and Schumy has a way of communicating with his team that others seem to not have. Going to be interesting
