The serie aircraft would have been very close to the Tomcat in therms of performance, but with a weaker radar (probably that of the mirage f1 with increased average power output) with relatively short range and that still can't look down...
The airforce was about to order 60 of the twinengine singleseat derivative known as "g8", but defence budget cuts made it quickly unfeasable. It would have been the ultimate interception/penetration vector for france as it could reach Mach 2.3 with its current engines (same as mirage IV strategic bomber) and was able of Mach 2.5 with the allnew in-developpment M53 engine(lately fitted on mirage2000).
@TalksWithDirt >> Marcel Dassault didn't get enough funds to developpe this concept further. Grumman was much more financialy powerfull to complete the swing-wing project. Tomcat F-14 was very costly to use though, only US Navy can afford it. In terms of who copies who, I think aeronautical engineering is a big familly of enthousiasts. So in spite of political conflicts, everyone is curious about what the other is inventing and want to try the same way. They all love planes better than politics.

Looks an awful lot like a Mig-23. I wonder who copied who.

@TalksWithDirt >> Dassault sold the swing-wing design to Grumman ; it was then applied to the Tomcat.

@lepivert Man you're not kidding. The wing outline sure does look like the Tomcat's. Thanks for the observation.

@TalksWithDirt Who copied who? Wrong question. right answer is: same\similar needs caus same\similar solutions.

I don't know for sure how practical this design was, but it's certainly a handsome airframe.
