  • Love her!! <3

  • I love Phyllis! God! Even back then she was old! lol.

  • i cant believe shes still alive

  • It's amazing what passed as humor back then.

  • I remember when I first her speak of Fang and I thought it was going to be her dog! lol But she was a person who seemed to keep the same looks for 20 years. Thanks for sharing this with us Ed. :) Added a bit of ligh heartedness to my evening. Songs

  • One of the greats! Growing up with her, Ruth Buzzi and Carol Burnett made for so many tickles.

  • I LOVE that dress!

  • Phyllis Diller is an awesome lady!!!! In 1982 I was an undergraduate student at Texas Woman's University when she came to town and did a benefit performance for the university. I was one of the students in the audience that night and she was a riot :-D. Thank you Phyllis from a TWU graduate!

  • @ChuChu353 BTW......My dad was a huge fan of yours. In Dec 1982 when he and my brother picked me up to take me home for the holiday break, the first thing Daddy asked me was "How was Phyllis Diller?" You made my dad laugh and smile, so you make me laugh and smile too :-D

  • Are you from Denmark and did u searh "diller" cause you were bored? (diller means penis in danish)

  • My God she's been the same age since 1969...

  • Phyllis Diller was fab, fab, fab. The fab-est.

  • I ♥ you Phyllis!!! i wish i could meet u!!!

  • the most iconic voice lol… i can recognize her voice anywhere… Robot Chicken, Jimmy Neutron, The Crypt Keeper… lol jk about the last one.

  • She has never made me laugh

  • @slowdream101 but you have

  • Lucy and Phyllis - two fantastic comediennes.

  • Hilarious!

  • She was a true funny comedienne!God blessed us with a funny performer.

  • Today is Sunday, July 17, 2011.....today is Phyllis Ada Driver Diller's 94th birthday.

What a way to celebrate her birthday by watching this great and humorous appearance on the famed Ed Sullivan Show. She has come along way since her early days in Lima, Ohio. Happy birthday Phyllis.

  • I saw her live in 1988, truly outstanding, I laughed til tears.

  • I loved her comedy, she was a gas!

  • She HAD to get into comedy...what else could there be? But she really is funny, I like her.

  • I adore her!

  • She just insults herself? That's the act? Well at least if it was funny..

  • "the last time there was a gleam in fang's eye there was a short in the electric blanket." lol

  • Love that laugh she would do at the end.

  • Back then, humor was sassy, well thought and self-inspired.

Now all we hear is vulgar jokes about pop culture.

  • @kztar621 Does pop-culture really deserve much better?

  • i like her stained glass dress.

  • "Im not saying my mother-in-law's ugly, but we rent her out for Hallowe'en" It's that kind of slightly mocking,self-deprecating humour which few comics employ now! I like to keep up with up & coming comics but it's also good to be reminded of the greats from yesteryear!

  • Phyllis did her thing and still has her following. Very funny self depricating comedian. Check her out in the movie "Everything Jake" with Ernie Hudson. Not a lot of screen time but the thespian in her really shines and she was perfectly cast.

  • I miss Phyllis Diller stand-up! Apparently she has a lengthy bit on this one film How To Live Forever coming out. They have a pic of her on their facebook here (on.fb. me/i6tinw) idk, it'll be nice to see her on screen again!

  • i disagree, it's just a different time, and like most people of your generation your sensibilities are more tuned to it. Some people grow old stuck in their time some people can keep up with current humor, music etc. Doesnt mean one is better than the other, your sensibilities are just different

  • come on people, she is funny!!

  • wait.... wait.... I just noticed something. Tell me if you agree.

If you were to put Bob Hope up there telling the same jokes, as phyllis diller the jokes would be exactly the same (with a male perspective) the inflection, the timing and delivery.

Tell me if you agree........... thanks

  • @andy18401 YES you are right.... good observation

  • @andy18401 Yes, there are some things that are the same...clearly Bob was an inspiration for her. But she's more sarcastic than he was. And, of course, there's her incredibly funny laugh. To laugh at one's joke's is the kiss of death for stand up's--but Phyllis is the lone exception--you WANT her to laugh! She's a legend.

  • What great comedy compared to what you hear today! Much cleaner with out bad language.

  • @patsaxon Of course it's clean, it's public television from 1969.

  • Phyllis Diller is not dead. No RIP for her! Not yet, anyway.

  • Lol I think she is pretty

  • She is adorable & one of the trailbrazers for ladies in comedy. What infectious humour is all about.

    She's really is a treasure.

    xx

  • To ValsHere,

"Infectious"? The woman is Three-Mile Island, a tub of caustic soda (past its expiration date) and a tick-covered plague rat squashed into one.

    Your Friend,

    Johnny Radionic™

  • haha i love her voice

  • Later in life everyone in Hollywood wanted to know who her plastic surgeon was as she had the best facial plastic surgery (face lift) anyone had ever seen. RIP Miss Diller!

  • @chrissen1 she's still alive, 93 years young

  • check out Jim Baily impersation of Miss Diller...it is wonderful as she is

  • Clean humor...excellent

  • grew up watching this lady she is a american icon.love her so funny.

  • great standup

  • Coincidental encounter was in Grand Rapids, Mi for the '77 DECCA State Finals & riding down in the elevator of The Pantlind Hotel w/her & her lil dog too/EPIC :D

  • She was my moms favorite. She just was ticked to death when she was on tv doing her act. Her and Moms Mabley

  • what a great clip~thanks for sharing! don't ya just love the dress!

  • Sooo funny!!!

  • I saw her on "full House"

  • She was a pioneer in stand-up for women comics. She was one of the first. I love her. She's one of the best

  • The Master of Comedy

  • One of the funniest comediennes of all time ! Love her !

  • Still going strong today; her sense of humour has not aged a bit!

  • lmao!!

  • She looks like an oompa Loompa in this :)

  • @hermitcrab3 LOL, what's an oompa Loompa?!! xD

  • I can't believe I used to think this was funny material way back when. This is painful to watch.

  • @MagicalMysteryTube The popuar culture has changed. I get the same feeling watching Bob Hope routines... and celebrity roasts...and Sonny and Cher....and disco music...etc. I still laugh at C Burnett, though

  • Too boring for you, huh? Not enough four letter words? Clean comedy is rough but hang in there. One day those four letter words will be boring too...I know they are for me. I hear them so often. They've lost their punch...know what I mean?

  • I'm new to Phyllis: different way of delivery then, but she's very funny, i have to say - and i LOVE that dress!!

  • "You wouldn't believe the way this man boozes. He can drink a six pack during an instant replay!" LMAO!!

  • Can laught

    er..

  • love it! very funny

  • @Occurian yup and you didn't have to say an obscenity every two seconds to be "Funny."

  • my god the outfits just my style

  • I love Phyllis Diller and to think before she was discovered at the now closed Purple Oinion in San Francisco. She lived in the late 50's and early 60's in Alameda.

  • Speed it up a bit and this would be COMEDY GOLD.

  • oh wash she ever funny!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and no profanity, lewd jokes, or poop jokes.

    Phyllis Forever!!!

    love the dress!

  • Talk about boring.

  • She was great and still is great.

  • Phyllis Diller was great at standup comedy.

  • @primogennaio WAS?

    More like "IS".

  • @animegx45 I wrote "was" because in recent years she hasn't done much. In her nineties and having had health and heart problems, she hasn't made many public appearances. Many people under the age of twenty have not heard of her. To those of us who grew up with her, she'll always remain among the very best. Her television series were not successes, but when measured at standup comedy, few could beat her.

  • @primogennaio ...

I was just saying shes still funny.

  • Should've left those eyelashes in the kitchensink ~_~

  • FightingForFreedom23-maybe YOU are just not funny and have no real sense of what is truly funny. Phyllis Diller is a comedy giant, along with Jack Benny, etc. Thy were just hilarious. Maybe you're kinda depressed and nothing is really breaking through. It can get that way sometimes. Best wishes

  • And that's how she looks with makeup...
