  • lex luthor! :P

  • pain leads to suffering, suffering leads to hate! HATE!

  • excellent

  • @pureVizions This is a Mahasi noting technique right down the Abdomen focus. He only recommends using 5% of your faculty to note and 95% of it to experience the sensation.

  • i've tried meditating on and off for about 2 yers now. it's only in the last 6 months that i've started to practice it more seriously. i have no training other than what little i have read and watched. i have the basic fundementals of it but want a deeper understanding. your videos have helped me with my direction. before this had trouble with wandering thoughts. your technique of noting has helped me gain control right away. i have been able to be in the now more easily.

  • I cannot find the video no. 1 :(

  • @TheMrredgreenblue search on youtube "How To Meditate I - What is Meditation "

  • @TheMrredgreenblue All videos on How To Meditate from this channel listed in order:

yutube dot com slash playlist?list=PL603BD0B03E12F5A1 Hope this helps

  • ...and thanks for your videos and offering DVD´s for free.

  • What a beautiful nature there. Birds singing......

  • I love you from the center of my heart.

  • is it normal if i accidentally slept

  • @Raihanrexrexrex That used to happen to me a lot. Mostly it was because I did this laying down. Maybe try a new position, and if you're upright, don't lean your head too far forward, it will cause sleepiness.

  • @Raihanrexrexrex It does happen at the beginning. The body doesn't know what to do with this state of calmness and thinks it's a bed time :-) Just say "drowsy, drowsy" and try to bring attention back to the breath.

  • great video. clear, concise, factual. No BS. Right to the point giving us good techniques and good reasons to practice. thank you for the time and energy u put into this.

  • relaxing. it all makes me poop.

  • @pureVizions some teachers , like Bhante Gunaratana, teach no noting at all. I personally am in this middle way where I see that noting can be useful sometimes for some things, but I don't use it for basic stuff like I use to at the beginning of my practice when all I knew was noting.

  • Fascinating introduction to sitting meditation, thank you.

  • Bhante, Thank you for your work on helping us understand meditation, as I understood, when we meditate we should follow the mind and understand it as it is? By this way don't we let our mind wander? I am not sure whether it is the right practice or not. Could you please explain?

  • omg its brad meltzer!

  • When I'm meditating doing the rising and falling, for some reason, I forget what im doing like I get just completely lost and it takes me a couple of seconds to understand that i just got lost, not in my thoughts but, like I have no clue what I was doing and afterwards come back to what I was doing a couple of seconds after or minutes, i lost track of time when I do actually so i dont know how long was i drifting into, lets call it nothingness or lost jungle. Do you understand what i mean?

  • nice video. you sound a little bit like mrs. doubtfire .

  • I dont know so I have to ask. When you're meditating and your mind is saying to you for example "Rising... falling...", you will be calmer and more aware of your thoughts, yes.

But even when your mind is saying "Rising... falling..." Isn't that still being aware of both of your breath and still your mind saying to you "rising and falling"? I mean, doesn't there have to be a meditative "state" when your mind is completely silent. And you dont even have to focus your breath anymore. Just silence.

  • Can you listen to music? Or no?

  • thinking, to mainstream

  • I see it! When I breath I see my stomach move

  • worlds roundest head

  • Thank you for amazing series. I'm wondering what time of the day is the best to meditate? also how often we should meditate?

  • @PJJose02 I hear first thing in the morning is the best time to meditate

  • Thank you sir

  • You sir are inspiring :)

thank you, you have helped me with many problems i have..

and now.. it just simply begins to be.. peaceful :)

  • Amazing

  • @unityspirit51 Buddhists don't believe in just death. They believe in recarnation/rebirth.

  • i wonder where this guys is

  • you sound canadian! woo

  • Do you have a video where you're just meditating? I think it'd be really helpful.

  • So many meditation videos and instructional material try to force you into relaxation. I'm not interested in forcing any feeling. This is way better, thank you for putting these videos up.

  • thank you :)

  • thank you.

  • @pureVizions

One thing which has been tremendously misunderstood, and which has been followed just mechanically by these traditionalists, is that this method of noting what happens in your experience was just intended as a way to anchor your attention in the present moment. It can be used just as a kind of support in the beginning, but eventually it becomes an obstacle because it requires the constant interference of your intellect, which prevents you from truly remaining a witness.

  • i am not native in eng and cant understand his prounosication properly any one has the text of this movie?

  • Probably the best explained Vipassana and meditation on the Internet

  • You made everything seem simple. You're the first guy to have ever explained it with complete clarity, what's more, step by step, and I can feel that you're patient with us. Your a good soul. May God bless you, my friend.

  • yuttadhammo, please respond.. I've been watching your vids and practicing meditation for like 3 months now, almost every day. Last night I believe I had my first true meditation experience. I began to see and hear things that were actually rather frightening. I saw what looked like a vortex spinning in my room, and at the center a fuzzy black dot, like a wormhole. Lights began flashing though it was very dark in my room. What are these things I'm seeing?? Should I not be afraid of them????

  • @theunknowncove You may have actually been experiencing a waking dream. Vivid hallucinations due to entering a REM state.

  • @PegasusCats No, I figured out what it was. I didn't realize my brow chakra (third eye) was opening. Now its already completely opened and I can see peoples auras and all this crazy colorful energy. It was a little frightening at first but I'm beginning to grow used to it

  • @theunknowncove

Whatever arises in the scene of one's experience, keep the stream of awareness moving without becoming identified with whatever is happening. And that is the whole spirit of meditation - the moment the mind has become identified, one has become the slave, one is no longer balanced and integrated as the master. Eventually - if you can remain just like a clear seeing eye, watching without judgment, then those scenes are bound to fade away into nothingness.

  • @theunknowncove I'm not sure whether I'm right or not, but my teacher (monk) told me to acknowledge on every single feeling. When you see these things, just be noticed that you're seeing seeing seeing. If you're scared, just know that you're scared. Don't fall trap into these things because they are allusions; sometimes good and sometimes bad. As soon as you can regain your consciousness, you'll certainly gain wisdom. That's why it is known as "insight meditation" or vipassana

  • @theunknowncove troll

  • will this help cure bad feelings or unease feelings/ depression. At all help in a tiny bit of way? i am trying to try everything i can to be happy. Please Respond

  • Why do you wear glasses? I once read in a book, called "sickness as a way" or something like that, that any sickness "comes from us"... well, I do not know what eye sickness you have, but do you think that meditation would help you get rid fo it?

  • You dont need to renounce worldly life and live in jungle to be enlighlightened

  • @TripleKanwar

Whether one is in the center of the society, or in retreat in the forest, as long as one continues living out of unawareness, then no matter what one does, no matter where one goes - one's sleep will be following you like a shadow. And if one's freedom is determined by whether one is living in the forest or in the city, then it is very fragile. That is the problem with these organized traditions - rather than liberating the mind, they only re-enforce one's conditioning.

  • @TripleKanwar

Whether one is living in the forest or in the center of the city, as long as one continues living out of unawareness, then one's unawareness is going to follow you like a shadow, it is inescapable. If one's freedom is dependent upon such conditions - then it is very fragile. And that is the problem with these organized traditions, rather than helping to liberate the mind, they only re-enforce one's conditioning.

  • @TripleKanwar I think it's a green screen or a back drop.

  • this dude got picked on hard in school

  • @KitRamsey1 your a fag.

  • @KitRamsey1 You are so unwise.

  • thank you so much , iam new to all this i just begun practicing and meditating your vids. helped so much again thanks(:

  • @pureVizions depends what you mean by 'beneficial' - if you're just looking for a peaceful state of being, it is enough just to let the mind flow. if you are looking for wisdom, it is necessary to train the mind in objectivity, which requires th acknowledgement to remove partiality from the mind. This can cause some stress, since we are used to letting our mind pick and choose its experiences.

  • @yuttadhammo Im a christian, But I became a Vegan because of health and spiritual reasons, and to save this Planet! Gluten, dairy, sugar, and meat is POISON! and we are all sick because of it. Peace!

  • Thankyou for this video!!!

  • how do we know if we r actually breathing naturally (rising and falling) cuz i'm having a hard time doing that and i can;t figure out if i am really breathing or forcing myself to breathe

  • @stupidturtle23 google "yuttadhammo experience reality", I think that should help.

  • @stupidturtle23 Someone explained a way to breath that was beneficial to me...Breathe in 100% let out 50% of your breath, Breathe in 100% let out 1/4 of your breath, Breath in 100% and let it all out slowly... Eventually you will breathe in a rhythm that is right for you.

  • @stupidturtle23 what do you think you do everyday dumb ass. if you dont knnow how to breath you ahve serious problems

  • @nomad806 well that's not a very nice thing to say.

  • @stupidturtle23 Stupid I have this same problem, I think we all do.. I can say I have had ONE experience where I realized that I was not controlling my breath at all.. and you REALLY are aware of it when it happens because it appeared to me to be a moment of pure mindfulness.

  • @stupidturtle23 if you're thinking "in" "out" then you are not locked in yet.

  • Am a Muslim.... But, I will use what your are Teaching.

  • @unityspirit51 It's all a matter of opinion. People do live short lives, so logically they should spend as much time being happy and doing what they enjoy as they can, regardless of how much movement this involves. If people find sitting still fulfilling, rewarding and fun, they should. If you find sitting down and meditating unproductive then it's probably best to do something else. All a matter of personal opinion.

  • @unityspirit51 there are many things you will have to overcome, including the belief that you are your body. The pain is not the problem, it is the mind that is causing you problems, through judgment of it, and views, etc. If you are really keen to help yourself, you are welcome to pm me.

  • @yuttadhammo the thing is... you are your body, not the phantom mind that plagues you so. The brain itself is fine, it is a useful tool able to recall a number or remember a fact. In this respect it is like a tractor. However when these thoughts run out of control, unable to stop them the tractor has gone wild. Anger, greed, illusion, all these emotions are useful, they are basic human emotions, they teach more of yourself. Resistance to life is the primary cause of suffering, not these things.

  • @unityspirit51 Good point, but how do u know that you will be "dead in grave silent" ? There are many ways of meditating. This is only one posture. Think about it carefully.

  • I find it very difficult to not move at all

  • Is this at a K.O.A.?

  • So should we be saying "Rising, Falling" pretty much the whole time?

  • @dandydonner No you don;t have to say that but think about it..observe the change and try to focus your mind which will in tern guide to consciousness....

  • YOu also need to stop masterbating, seriously cut it down atleast for a while, It actually make you stronger!

  • I wish people these day's would stop obsessing about money, sex and violence. I'm 13 and I'm always trying to get people to think the way I do.

  • @foopibransfield Have you ever had the Jehovah's witnesses or Mormons come to your door?

  • @foopibransfield just be an example

  • should i be high while doing this? lol

  • I think my mind is too chaotic for all this meditation. Every time I try to meditate I start to think about all the people who made my life hell and I just want to find them and kill them all.

  • @Emerald007007 If you don't forgive them, who is it that suffers; you or them? Forgiveness is the greatest gift you can give.

There is none but you. The people who made your life hell are a reflection of you. Nothing exists but you (the divine being). I am a reflection of you.

YOU must stop making your life hell. Things just happen; how you take them is a whole other matter.

  • @Emerald007007 Hay Emerald.... Please listen to some of the talks given by ven Ajan Brahmawanso of western Australian Buddhist society. if you google it you will be able to find some inspiring speeches.

  • why in the stomack???

  • I am wondering where are you at rite here in the video?

  • you know what you are doing but you are boooring.

  • Hi, firstly I want to say this video has been a great help to me. I'm at University and have many worries. Since I've started trying meditation, I've begun to feel more relaxed. I have found a method that works quite well for me. When breathing I instead think "in" and "out". I repeat this for a while but then change it when I'm relaxed so instead of thinking "In" I think of positive things or positive words. Instead of "out" I think of negative things or words. I find this particularly helps me

  • I have a question. What is the reason why you guys shave your head and your brows? Please answer. :)

  • I tried doing wat he said and I almost got a really a bad headache

  • @MrHumptdumpty which is normal. i guess this is the process of clearing. apparently something in ur mind has been bothering u till u started meditating and that's how the negative energy found a way out. unless u were doing something wrong practically while meditating. imho.

  • i reciently smoked spice and my heart went crazy it hurts and beats fast everynow and then coud this help this pain and make my heart normal?

  • @megadethklok66 what the hell is wrong with u writing comments like that, phew i hope it helps f*** dont smoke spice did u really thing nothing will happen by the way how much did u smoke? its not that bad :)

  • @thesomebody3 it was 14 grams and ever since then its been actin weird so i ttirecd this to help it even if i burn green it makes my heart race baddd it never happeneduntil thta damn spice

  • please help me. i can't forget my past what should i do thank you btw- ur videos are the only ones that explain perfectly.

  • Why does he have a towel on his shoulder?

  • what you say do you say it out loud or in your head?

  • @SuperCOinc in your head. when he says it out loud it is just an example

  • @8:00 3) we become more aware of the world around us, the people and things around us, therefore we're less caught-off-guard when difficulties arise in life, we're able to take sickness, old age and even death much better 4) rid ourselves of the un-useful/ "evil" / suffering-inducing things in our life — anxiety, worry, stress, anger, conceit, etc

  • @6:45 The benefits.. what we should see as we practice: 1) The mind becomes calmer, happier, lighter — when the breath goes into the body, the stomach rises. 2) We come to realize things about ourselves and the world around us - we come to see which things around us we could do without — come to understand why we do fall into suffering— now we understand that when people get angry at us, it's not because they're evil, but because they have the same emotions inside them that we have in ourselves

  • What is your take on marijuana and meditation. Does meditation increase focus.

  • Thanks for the video, I like the way you explain everything. I have been practicing meditation for about a week now.

  • Hi,I'm not being morose or sarcastic. But,does anyone know if it's ok(or at least not detrimental) to envision death or being dead? To me death isn't particularly scary or negative. Thanks in advance.

  • @exeuroweenie that is good! Fear of death is a bad thing, which you certainly don't have. Now if your constantly thinking about death, then that isnt too good either. focus on keeping your mind in the present, your life right here right now; be aware of the exact moment you are in, not of death.

  • @rhcp4565 Good, thanks! I kinda doubted it was bad-just wasn't certain as it pertained to meditation. Some westerners/Christians seem terrified of death. What they don't realize is,living can be just as scary and much more immediate.

  • is that a green screen? looks beautiful

  • why do you shave your eyebrows? just curious. good videos.

  • My new best friend buddah guy!

  • thank you for the teachings. im a new buddhist and i found this video very helpfull.

  • Dear yuttadhammo,

when i try to meditate, rising and falling, a sensation arise like wanting to cry. I start to meditate and ending up crying. Unbearable heat occur in my chest and my heartbeat jump fast and i feel wanting to scream or going crazy and had a strong headache. Is it because I did too many bad things in the past? how to go past it?

    Thank you.

  • thank you for this video this form of meditation is much easier than the last one i attempted in witch after 20 minuets of meditation i was only able to focus seconds at a time until i tried something different i imagined getting up and walking down my street and i felt completely relaxed until i reached the end of my road and could not go any further as if being pushed back then i felt extreme pain as if someone had their foot on my head and i couldn't hold the image any longer.

  • Halfway through this video I started did exactly what was said anything came to my mind or body I repeated it in my mind and noticed it disappearing especially the pain. Each different pain went away after. There is a point between thoughts where i get caught for a few seconds and nothing is clear cut then. I will try my best to do this daily. I am also going to the Gym is that a good thing to accompany this journey?

  • I have a syndrome which keeps me in bed everyday due to hyperventilation and increased pulse rate which I cannot control. I just tried your meditation videos to "release" the sickness, and I feel so much better. Only I can control the anxiety and stress that I let in. Hopefully I can learn to live a calmer life, where these negative things wont keep me down. Thank you.

  • @inkorswim May you live a good life. I hope you can live a calmer life, I'm sure you can.

  • where did you learn this from?

  • Hi, I like munks and Buddhist because there kind and peaceful for this but i don't really study them. Is the towel on your left shoulder clothing, decor, or just there?

  • Hello yuttadhammo! I just finished reading the book empowering your soul through meditation and the book says that during meditation you will experience visual things through your third eye. such as beautiful colors, beautiful places and even beautiful sounds that cannot be heard by the physical ear. Im finding it hard to visualize these things. Have you ever visualized this and can you help me visualize it as well? Thank you.

  • have you had any experiences with your "third eye" or an out of body experience due to meditation?, i know meditation is VERY good for you body but im just curious if that sort of thing actually does happen

  • Should it be done in silence.

  • these videos saved me years of trying to find my chi

  • Do you have to close your eyes during the meditation?

  • Can meditation help you if you are pointed at by a gun?

  • @DwyaneWadeCounty I imagine you wouldn't panic if something like that happened.

  • @eviltube1111 Then how does meditation work exactly? Is it because meditation teaches you how to block out certain thoughts? Or is it because meditation teaches you how to relax at will?

But then again, I have heard and read that meditation is about learning to eliminate thoughts and rumination in order to "Relax."

So if someone out of nowhere points a gun at me, in order for me to stay relax is to eliminate the thought of fear in my mind and focus on how I am going to handle the situation.

  • @DwyaneWadeCounty I can't answer that, I'm sorry. I was just guessing because no one had answered you after a few days. It would be very rude of me to say I understand what meditation is without having practiced it.

  • @DwyaneWadeCounty no, it's to understand all parts of the situation clearly, including the fear. Understanding frees you from attachment, expectation and thus, fear.

  • @yuttadhammo Ok OK.

But when it comes to meditation, it makes sense that you are "Observing" and becoming "Aware" of your thoughts when you realized that a thought has creep inside your head and you are no longer focusing on your breathing.

But when you start to refocusing on your breathing, doesn't that counts as you trying to control your mind and thoughts?

  • @DwyaneWadeCounty you focus on whatever is clearest. in a sense, you are controlling, but only in so far as required to see what appears clearly. There is no need to return to the breath unless there is nothing else to observe, or in becomes to confused to do so.

  • Your voice is calming....:)

  • i also been haveing a *heat rash* from showering in really hot water and it itches like crazy can this help me so i wont itch myself just to think of itching itching or wat ever?

  • oh my god u said exactly what i felt.i was sitting breathing and i thought of the future and i went through my whole life time i thought i was crazy for thinking this intill u said it omg.

  • i woke up with a head ache and i tried this and now i have no headache wat the?! i also feel refreshed a bit like realy relaxed

  • Have you heard of the self-defined "holy man" Yogi Prahlad Jani?

He claims he has gone nearly 7 decades without a drop of water or a crumb of food. Doctors observed him for 2 weeks and found that he was in an agile mental state and had the health of a 40 year old man (He's currently 83).

In the midst of the phenomenon, he claimed meditation was his secret to such a feat...

  • i have a question could meditating help me in lucid dreaming at all if so can u lucid dream?

  • @eureka7101 yes, meditation helps one become more focused, and focus is the one factor that is important in lucid dreaming, because you have to stay consious even when your body is slowly drifintg away. meditation is probably the best thing that can be done to help with lucid dreaming.

  • Thank you, please understand that you've brought a state of relaxation and focus to me which I find very hard to achieve. Please keep these videos coming as it's helping me fight the inner struggles of depression. Peace

  • You seem so relaxed and calm, that's very pleasant ;D

  • ah whered your eyebrows go bro lol

  • I definitely need to practice more at Meditation. No matter what religion you are 9Im Agnostic), there should always be meditation involved. Very important.

  • how...

  • any tips on how to meditate if becoming aware of breath causes me shortness of breath?

  • Hi..Thanks for the video. It is really good. However, I have few questions.

    1. How different is vipassana from your technique. Is it necessary to go for a 10 day retreat or just follow your video?

    2.I am a non-vegetaraian . Can I be a non -vegge and meditate

  • During this meditation all I could focus on was the aches and pains in my back and neck that irritate me somewhat throughout my daily life. It got so intense at one point that my eyes began to tear up, even tho these pains seem mild while going about my day. eventually some pains faded and other new ones came up but there was FAR more of them than I was previously aware of...., Is this progress? or am I CAUSING more pain?

  • So when I do this I find myself getting distracted easily. Is it something that can be helped with more practice?

  • @keaton121 Yes. But don't force it. Your mind is not a soldier in a regiment. Discipline it with patience. Sit and watch it in the way described in the video. Whatever mental state arises, see it, nothing more. do not be complacent. If angry, do not chastise yourself but do not "wallow" in it under the pretence that it's ok. It IS ok, but you are there to see it, not run after it. This should not be mistaken for any kind of supression. same for all other types of thoughts. hope it helps :)

  • which camera did u use to shoot this clip?

  • lol no wonder your so calm look at that scenery its beautiful :). Where is that? Also thank you for these videos I have been wanting to learn how to meditate the right way and this has helped a lot thank you so much.

  • it feels like having shaolink monk inside your house ;)

btw did you notice you tilt your head, and maybe its just me but im uncosciously tilting my head the same way while listening and my neck hurts! xD

  • Very good... Live long and prosper ;) brother
