@turboslag Most modern NATO medium support weapons usually change their barrels every 200-400 rounds and whenever is convenient for the gunner to do so. I'm talking about 7.62 NATO weapons like the American M60 or the British GPMG. Dunno about MGs from other parts of the world.
@turboslag They do this to let the barrels cool down. Machine gun teams usually carry about two or three extra barrels with them so they can keep up the fire. Once the used barrel cools down it can be re used so long as it didn't become red hot. Fire too many rounds out of one barrel and the heat just ruins it.
Thanks. Presumeably the barrels are quick to change then ?! On the WW2 German MG-42 the barrel had a quick change mechanism which allowed the barrel to be swapped out in less than 10 seconds I believe.

The only way we will really "win" in a conflict based on ideology is to commit outright genocide that or go home. It was "easier" during previous conflicts/wars. for those who think we went overboard you only saw part of the fight...previous to this the lead truck was hit with a EFP through the back doors. immediately we came under heavy fire from the destroyed building you see near the mosque. when we engaged, they started to break contact to the mosque. that's where the video picks up...so don't be so quick to judge. it was a bad day for us, and we wanted payback. and yes, were infantry. sending rounds to cover the evac of the wounded from said EFP.

@turboslag Most modern NATO medium support weapons usually change their barrels every 200-400 rounds and whenever is convenient for the gunner to do so. I'm talking about 7.62 NATO weapons like the American M60 or the British GPMG. Dunno about MGs from other parts of the world.

@turboslag They do this to let the barrels cool down. Machine gun teams usually carry about two or three extra barrels with them so they can keep up the fire. Once the used barrel cools down it can be re used so long as it didn't become red hot. Fire too many rounds out of one barrel and the heat just ruins it.

Thanks. Presumeably the barrels are quick to change then ?! On the WW2 German MG-42 the barrel had a quick change mechanism which allowed the barrel to be swapped out in less than 10 seconds I believe.
Now I understand why the old British Vickers were water cooled !
