jesse helms was a patriot, and i'm proud to say that he represented my state of north carolina. agree with him or not, he stood up for what he believed in and never backed down. MLK doesnt deserve a holiday. plain and simple. and thank god that some people like Jesse Helms realized that. that doesnt make him racist. christopher columbus doesnt deserve a holiday either. Helms was a true southern politician. he truly went after the liberal elitists

So if you oppose affirmative action you're a racist? The late Sen. Robert Byrd (D-WV) was a KKK member and personally filibustered for 14 hours against the civil rights legislation that was being pushed through Congress by Republicans but I don't recall blacks coming out and calling him a racist after his death.

Shows how very little you know about this nearly non-existent group of lawbreakers. NAMBLA was forbidden to march in gay pride celebrations in SF, and even if they did, that does not mean that the gay community as a whole agrees with what they do. Hetero parades allow the Military to march, which preys on children in much worst ways.

Well said!!! I can only add, Helms was an UN-EDUCATED, ignorant, inarticulate college dropout who could barely speak English. The only good thing about him is that he's dead, only wish it would have happened a LOT sooner! Waist of a life, and a disgrace for our government!
