Belting does mean using your chest voice to produce a loud, resonant and powerful sound, but as she goes higher, she has to switch into her mixed voice. After all, belting high has to have to good combination of chest and head tone to produce a proper belting sound.

Taeyeon uses too much head tone which makes her belting not sound natural while Sunny has a good combination but her she has stability issues. In fact, all three of them have bad vocal placement. They use too much nose resonation. They should resonate in the 'mask' instead.

Tiffany's part at 0:50 - 1:05 is really beautiful. Other people may prefer Sunny but i think Tiffany's voice suits this song, her husky voice is really nice :)

I think Jessica's voice is amazing... But still I can't help but feel in this particular perfomance, she struggles a bit to get to the high notes by the way her trhoat tenses. Taeyeon and Sunny make the notes seem effortless and that didn't happen to me when Jessica sung it. I still think she's great though, just didn't adore her aproach to the chorus. <3

Sunny's voice just suits this song more than any of the other girls. Her voice is a lot softer, with a soulful feel to it. It just really suits this song. While obviously the other girls are better than Sunny on a technical level, their voice just don't suit the song like Sunny's does.
when it comes to voices I would say it like this: 1) Taeyeon 2) Sunny 3) Tiffany 4) Jessica 5) Seohyun 6) Yuri 7) Hyoyeon (yeah i know a lot of you will say that sooyoung is better, but hyoyeons vocals is gorgeous and her voice is very powerful, sm just never lets her show it) 8) Sooyoung 9) Yoona but of course, they're all good :D
Taeyeon's voice is 'powerful'. Although the other members are good, they are not at the same level with Taeyeon. SM is wise in finding Taeyeon as SNSD's main vocal. You can see Taeyeon is always responsible for the most difficult part. After I heard "If" "Can you hear me" and some other English songs sang by Taeyeon, I think it is hard to find a female singer to compete with Taeyeon. She is special, talented and of course precious. I am a Taiwanese.
@CCCPPY i beg to differ. as much as i am an snsd fan, there are many singers that have voices which surpass taeyeon. In korea alone, there is Lena Park, which Taeyeon cannot even compare to. But what taeyeon's voice is truly representative of is hard work and professionalism. give her a song and wham, she will execute it perfectly. she works hard at her voice. that is what makes her a great singer.
@zlackerify - I think comparing Taeyeon to Lena Park is a bit too much of a comparison since Lena Park is simply the best there is in Korea. It's like comparing a male idol to Lee Seung Chul.
@zlackerify Thanks for leading me to listen to Lena Park. I was shaked and overwhelmed by her emotion when listening to her sining 'Memory'. I think she is really great and one of the top class in the world. If someone says that Luna is much more powerful and professional and greater than Taeyeon, I totally agree. However; I can feel Luna's voice is slightly sharp in some songs. Although Taeyeon is not greater than Luna, I like the way Taeyeon expresses her emotion.

Doesn't matter whether they are from the same country, gender, culture, race whatever. There is bound to be hatred, especially towards those at the top. It's just human nature. To me, I love them. The purpose of an artist's performance is for entertainment. If we don't appreciate his performance, we won't talk about him; not to mention to make efforts to attack him. @monimonjjang I disagree. Taeyeon is generally used to hit the strong, high notes. (See the line "Modeun naui tteolrim jeonhalrae" in Into The New World and "my heart" in The Boys. These are just isolated examples but you see Taeyeon repeatedly used to hit some pretty tough notes.)

I'm not even sure I understand to what you're referring, but most people would define a powerful voice based on its ability to carry difficult notes loudly and with clarity, and that--more so than anyone in SNSD (alongside Jessica perhaps)--characterizes taeyeon's voice.

Sunny's voice just suits this song more than any of the other girls. Her voice is a lot softer, with a soulful feel to it. It just really suits this song. While obviously the other girls are better than Sunny on a technical level, their voice just don't suit the song like Sunny's does.

Taeyeon's voice is 'powerful'. Although the other members are good, they are not at the same level with Taeyeon. SM is wise in finding Taeyeon as SNSD's main vocal. You can see Taeyeon is always responsible for the most difficult part. After I heard "If" "Can you hear me" and some other English songs sang by Taeyeon, I think it is hard to find a female singer to compete with Taeyeon. She is special, talented and of course precious. I am a Taiwanese.

@CCCPPY i beg to differ. as much as i am an snsd fan, there are many singers that have voices which surpass taeyeon. In korea alone, there is Lena Park, which Taeyeon cannot even compare to. But what taeyeon's voice is truly representative of is hard work and professionalism. give her a song and wham, she will execute it perfectly. she works hard at her voice. that is what makes her a great singer.

@zlackerify - I think comparing Taeyeon to Lena Park is a bit too much of a comparison since Lena Park is simply the best there is in Korea. It's like comparing a male idol to Lee Seung Chul.

@zlackerify Thanks for leading me to listen to Lena Park. I was shaked and overwhelmed by her emotion when listening to her sining 'Memory'. I think she is really great and one of the top class in the world. If someone says that Luna is much more powerful and professional and greater than Taeyeon, I totally agree. However; I can feel Luna's voice is slightly sharp in some songs. Although Taeyeon is not greater than Luna, I like the way Taeyeon expresses her emotion.

@zlackerify As a foreigner to Korea, I don't know all the Korean singers. My comparison is based on a Taiwan TV program which introduces almost all K-pop girl and boy groups. I am sorry not to point out that my comparison is among the girl groups. I really think Taeyeon is the best among them. If someone has a different opinion, I respect his thought. By the way, can someone tell me that there are many people who are anti snsd at this moment when they are so popular in Asia?

@CCCPPY Put it this way. For every 1 person who hates SNSD, 10 people love them. Hate them, love them, we are all human beings. Doesn't matter whether they are from the same country, gender, culture, race whatever. There is bound to be hatred, especially towards those at the top. It's just human nature. To me, I love them. I'll support them. Even when the whole world turns again them.

@zlackerify Thanks a lot. But in Taiwan, I find no phenomenon of being anti Jay. There must be some who dislike Jay. However, it is hard to find a vedeo or a false story of trying to be 'anti' Jay. The purpose of an artist's performance is for entertainment. If we don't appreciate his performance, we won't talk about him; not to mention to make efforts to attack him. That is why I am so surprised to find some Koreans are anti SNSD. I think it is unreasonable and ridiculous.

@zlackerify Snsd did'nt catch my eyes until two month ago when they caused a riot at Taiwan airport. Later, I found they were well trained; some are good at singing, while some good at dancing. They are so true, natural and beautiful ( although some may had plastic surgery). In Taiwan concert, fans arranged Korea words "don't leave" and pink ribbon sea in the audicnce. They are welcomed so much. My problem is that why some Korean are anti snsd instead of taking pride in snsd?

@CCCPPY it's simple. let's take it into context: Jay Chou to me is one of the greatest taiwanese artistes out there. I love his music. However does everyone in Taiwan love him? I'm sure there are anti sentiments towards him even though he is Taiwanese. SNSD is the same. I hope I'm not giving off the wrong impression here. I am a HUGE fan of SNSD believe me. I created this youtube account for the sole purpose of liking their videos and adding to the view count.

I take it for granted that some of SNSD did a P. S. when someone pointed it out. Now I am not sure n I won't think about this. Yoona is beautiful as a child. @monimonjjang I disagree. Taeyeon is generally used to hit the strong, high notes. (See the line "Modeun naui tteolrim jeonhalrae" in Into The New World and "my heart" in The Boys. These are just isolated examples but you see Taeyeon repeatedly used to hit some pretty tough notes.)

@VivekVish that's where people are mistaken~ sure she can hit really tough notes but "powerful" doesn't match the description. rather, she has the best technique, experience, tone, musicality, and of course, pure talent. but i can't say her voice is powerful. hyorin's voice is powerful. it's not bad to not have a powerful voice though lol x]

@monimonjjang It's not that people are mistaken. It's that most people mean something entirely different from "powerful" than what you mean. I'm not even sure I understand to what you're referring, but most people would define a powerful voice based on its ability to carry difficult notes loudly and with clarity, and that--more so than anyone in SNSD (alongside Jessica perhaps)--characterizes taeyeon's voice.

@VivekVish no, i realize the 'loudly' part. but listen to her voice, it's slightly restrained when she hits high notes. her high notes are soft, but powerful only in an emotional way. jessica has more of that 'loud' or 'powerful' quality.
taeyeon can't, per say, belt high notes, yet she can sing them with clarity and emotion, while most people would just kinda sing it.

@loveSinging981 That's because Taeyeon and Sunny hit it in their mix voice (which is easier) while Jessica hit it in her chest voice (which is much more difficult). They are just using different technique to hit high notes. :)
