  • amazing voice

  • Very powerful voice indeed.

  • woahhh goosebumbs

  • that's awesome.

  • HOW DID SHE DO THAT O_o !!!???

  • I like the original more, Hudson has an incredible voice, but the original one has much more passion. Both are WONDERFUL!

  • I like how j hol. Sings and BTW Beyonce beats j hud.

  • Jennifer Holliday's voice and stage presence are so captivating and she beautifully delivered the message behind the song. I've still got mad respect for Jennifer Hudson. To even take on this song after Jennifer Holliday hit it out of the park shows she had some serious balls, and the fact that she did an awesome job makes her an amazing artist.

  • i feel that the floor is opened when i hear this song

  • She deserves an Oscar for her amazing voice!!

  • omg all the talent!! i love jenifer hudson but wow she beginning gave me goosebumbs

  • One is live without the benefit of a recording studio.

The Jennifer Holiday one is the best as she has defined how the song is sung. She is the reference upon all others are measured.

Jennifer Hudson brilliant too, but could she sustain that sort of performance 8 times a week for two years ???????

  • Both amazing...thanks for posting

  • Jennifer Holliday is WORKING IT OUT! One of the best divas of all time.

  • Its the saddest thing ever when a woman wants to stay engulfed in a love that does not exist with a man that does not love her ... the pain , the humiliation, the loss.

    beautiful song no doubt.

  • Every time I hear Jennifer Holiday sing this song I get chills. She is the rare singer who emotes so strongly when she sings. I love Jennifer Hudson but Jennifer Holiday owns this song.

Jennifer Hudson is the only other person who comes close with this song. I did not like Whitney's version at all.

  • @MsKelleys Agreed... whew the emotion brings tears to my eyes here...

  • personally i think that both of them are great singers and they both did a great job and that jennifer holiday is the original and jennifer hudson did an excellent job going in behind her and acting her part she took a hard roll they are both great singers and preformers i love this movie and this sone

  • I usually dont like songs like this. But me luv lotz :)

  • Both give me goosebumps. Love this.

  • Two incredible women who were given a hell of a song to sing. Brava!

  • they both are simply amazing! Maybe I should name my kid Jennifer cause it seems its working out pretty well for them :)

  • Holiday is passionate but just look at Jennifer Hudson's facial expressions. She looks like she's crying when she sings.

  • I saw her in person doing this song and the whole show.....it was great. She was so good on stage....what a show.

  • I saw in person to see her do this.....it was great.

  • AMAZING .. BOTH ARE JUST AMAZING!! <3<3<3<3

  • Hennifer Holiday really knows how to bring goose bumps in a person.

I especially like when she says ha ha as she is walking backwards.

  • Two incredibly talent ladies. Jennifer Holiday's version is incredible and gives me pimple sized goosebumps, however, Jennifer Hudsons version gives me golf ball sized goose bumps it's just amazing!!!

  • @reshia1

    Sorry talented ladies....

  • Jennifer holiday is like a raw v8 giving you the brute force with a hugeeee turbo and extremely wide exhaust pipes.

    Where as jennifer hudson.

Shes like this finely tuned v10 with the hight pitch notes with sheer force.

But at the end of the road, you can pass me the bi turbo v8.

(i am a car enthusiast, this is the best way for me to express what im feeling)

  • I can't pick one over the other, so that means JHol is the best and JHud is right there except JHud knows what she has to do, JHol just sang her ass off, so JHud had to sang her ass off, which she did. so Thank You to both ladies JHud you did JHol proud.

  • Anyone hear that scratching sound? Thats the Academy rushing to engrave Jennifer Hudson's name into the oscar while watching this

  • AMEN TO THAT!!!

    @jamesthemaniac

  • Definitely respect J. Holiday. She killed her version and she was live, but J. Hudsons version is my favorite. Her version is the best hands down. :)

  • Did you hear the HUGE applause she got when she hit that last note!?!?!?!?!

  • Jennifer Holiday is the original and so good, but J Hud had me feeling it in my soul.

  • jennifer hudson killed id handz down

  • nahh jennifer hudson is this generation so easy to tell she the best now and j holiday was good back then now jennifer hudson got it

  • J. Holiday, last generation type of wonderful! J. Hudosn, this generation type of wonderful!.....put simply, J. Hudson is this generations J. Holiday.

  • Wow!! That's all I can say.

  • Best song in the film and it wasnt sang by Beyonce! Jennifer is on par with Holliday singing this song, both are well worthy of the praise coming from 2 different generations! Pure class x 2!

  • J-Hol owned. that was live

  • CLASSIC, IF IT WASNT FOR HER THERE WOULD BE NO J-HUD...NUFF RESPECT.

  • Jennifer hudson has incredible passion

  • INCREDIBLE !!!!!!!!

  • poor guy...

  • This will always be my fav. So much emotions.,,Praises..

  • she creeps me out ? but her singing is truly awesome!

  • Sang that girl(s)! This song got more soul than Jimmy Lol "Jimmy got soul, Jimmy got soul, Jimmygot Jimmygot Jimmy got soul!"

  • WOW TO BOTH!

  • J Hud is better in EVERY way!

  • jennifer hudson has nothing on jennifer hoiiday...period

  • @slurpy72 4 realz..

  • @datruth73 in jennifer hudson defence she was preforming in front of a live audience unlike j holiday in dream girls hard song to sing and also agree they both did it amazingly

  • When I saw Dreamgirls in the theatre I got fuckin chills after J. Hudson's performance! I was like on the edge of my seat lip syncing the whole song and I wanted to get up and cheer right after that amazing performance; and I turned to my friends with this huge smile on my face and they were like "*yawn* This movie's kinda boring." I was like "Are you fuckin kidding me!? That is a damn hard song to sing and she did it outstandingly!" They didn't get it lol

  • Peole think a lot of garbage in the movies is great when in fact not... DreamGirls was the only black musical I can think of in the 2000's... and yes the movie was boring but if it wasn;t for Jennifer Hudson, who actually blows everyone way in the move she is the star... Fuck American Idol... Jennifer Hudson should have won American Idol.... and Simon was looking real stupid after making false judgement... Jennifer Holiday was too scary and I can see why Curtis left that beast.... @falloutpunk

  • love them both

  • they both are very amazing...but damn after listening to both of the my throat hurts

  • 0:58 is where the illest part of the song starts!!! inacse you waiting for it

  • I think both did a good work, each one in her own way, both deserves my respect, they got talent. Besides, no one of us who are posting here can do better than these girls.

  • Has anyone ever noticed that a great R&B singer is much like a pastor in that they put an emphasis that doesnt exist on the end of a word. Like "goin-uh" lol. Its great.

  • I saw Jenniter Holiday do this on stage....can't believe she could do this 8 times a week....year after year. She did a great job.....it was so powerful when she did I almost feel out of my seat.

  • you got to have a strong and powerful voice to do this song and make it sound good, and both these woman have that and did a hell of a job. beyonce or rihanna could never do this song and make it sound good....

  • Jennifer Holiday, what an incredible "LIVE" performance, I wish I could have seen this show. I know it was fantastic.

Jennifer Hudson, another AMAZING performance! Two incredible singers!!

  • i still lik jennifer hudson betta, no matter wat nobody say cnt nobody sing better dan her!! she got a strong voice n she can sing really really really really gud!! need i say anymore?!! point made!!

  • i still lik jennifer hudson betta, no matter wat nobody say cnt nobody sing better dan her!! she got a strong voice n she can sing really really really really gud!! need i say anymore?!!

  • love it.

  • Brilliant!! Both these ladies were/are professional divas... go check out the audition of Bianca Ryan on America's got Talent... 10 Year old blew their socks off!!!

  • well damn... holiday snapped out live.... hudson snapped but she recorded take after take

  • omgg this woman can singg !!!!

  • to say jennifer hudson doesnt compare is just ludacris open ya hears they both amazing enough said

  • Thank you, again, for posting... I've watched this a few times and it is still giving me goose bumps... (or goose pimples, depending on which side of the pond u r... :-)

  • I would never say anything bad about Jenifer Hudson, But Ms Holliday did this night in and night out in person on broadway and is BY far superior to ANY one who ever tried this song even one time, Not lip syncing one time in a movie, That is a fact.

  • @bitemenow609 I respect your post...however You should know that they spent about a day and a half working on JHud scene in the movie for this song so yes it was not every night and what not for JHoll. however JHud did work her ass off for this role. and also for musicals they ask the actor to sing full out and then later they just edit out the live voice and keep the track so that everything fits! So, next time don't make it sound like JHud did nothing. She killed it and worked her ass off.

  • @btoolie I did not say anything bad about JHUD. But there is not comparison to doing once for a movie under studio conditions and doing it in front of a live audience every night. She did a wonderful job on the song. This in Ms Hollidays song and she is the GOLD standard. That is a indisputable fact.

  • We are not here to judge Beauty, but who has talent..And Both have enough talent to sell if they want.

  • Whitney can be a great singer, but in this song she doesn't sing like J.Holi.,cuz this song is particularly form her,No one can do it as her,not even J.Hud,who is a great singer

  • love yourself, this is painful, lol!

  • DAMN!......

  • I completely surrender to this woman... had to come here after praising Jennifer Hudson... this woman is the GURU. No further comment.

  • They are totally singing what I feel right now...beautiful song, sung by two amazing singers.

  • I saw Jennifer Holdiay on stage....I don't know how she did this 8 times a week....are jaws just dropped.

  • I prefere Whitney Houston or Jennifer Hudson

  • j holiday did an awesome job and she is beautiful and hudson was good i like both XDDDD

  • while dey both killed dis song witout a doubt i cant stand 2 c j.holliday sing -_-..i kno it shuldnt b bout how she look but GOTDAMN she look like sumbody was bustin her in da back of her head while she was singin..she jst ugly..sowwy..j.hudson definetly looked betta singin it n killed it too!

  • she suxs and she luks like crap compared to charice

    go asians

  • @22skyharp56 Fuck you slanted eye chink Asians. Charice is trying to copy the black style of singing. Go eat some rice!

  • @ASU19992006 Hush you racist pig....there is no 'black' or 'white' or ANY RACE style of singing....in the future, don't be so ignorant

  • @uhscubs13 There is a black style a singing. You are ass is the one that's ignorant. Most of the great singers are black and have their foundation in the black church. Alot of white singers study black singers to try to imitate the best. Now the Asians are stealing and trying to act like they are better! Please! Black is where it's at. Ain't nothing like the real thing. And I am racist. I grew in in America where it's the American way. I learned from the best! LOL.

  • @ASU19992006 I'm white- and I agree!! African Americans are amazing singers- they provided foundations for all the amazing singers today...

  • @22skyharp56 yeah charice is good and all BUT she is NOT ok jennifer hudson's level so shut that mess up and why does this turn into racial thing?? this is suppose to be about the VOICES! PERFORMANE! NOT race, looks, or anything else .. clearly charice, jholiday and jennifer hudson can sing . thats all that should matter

  • Anyone wanna bet Ben Harney (Curtis Taylor for J.Holliday) had ear plugs in? =]

  • Ok this is Jen....Ol school momma... Maaan Jennifer is holding this man hostage.....LOL

  • Ok this is Jen....Ol school momma....LOL

  • ok watched it, and to be honest the reason why jennifer h is better, is because she can act, j holliday can only sing. the oscar went to the best supporting ACTRESS not the best supporting singer. watch the difference.

  • yeah ok j holliday version is good, jennifer hudson is just a better performer period. Did anyone notice that j holliday is ugly as fuck. Thats a minus point too. go jennifer !

  • @mrsmojet1 not only did holiday originate the interpretation of this torch song (and hudson merely copy it), holiday is a consummate STAGE performer on Broadway who shows the proper facial contortions for that genre. Shame on you for not finding Holiday's beauty; the point was that black beautiful women don't all have to look like chocolate dipped Barbie dolls. Hudson's cookie-cutter bimbo look loses most of the dramatic point of the song, imo.

  • @nora22000 Ok I need to correct you on your BS! I have performed on Broadway and I have seen mny Broadway shows, even videos from that era! Those facial contortions were NOT normal!!! Jennifer Holiday did it and thats about it...and quite frankly, although she sounds amazing, she looked like a damn fool! I have no idea why you are bashing Jennifer Hudson's performance...clearly the Academy of Motion Picture and Design and countless other credible organizations LOVED IT..!!!

  • @deMarc89 exactly, over doing it at every turn, no finesse. I can just imagine she was just put on the thing to sing and had no idea of how to truly connect with the part beyond singing. awful

  • @nora22000 sorry nora, i know beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but she is not attractive here. hubby told me that she lost all the weight, here her face is so ugly it looks upside down. i love black beauty but this is not it, instead of you saying the obvious you chose to play nice. a stage performer does not always translate onto film and my point stand j. huds performance was not only better it was better acted, and she elevated what is a quite boring play to something of a phenom.

  • @mrsmojet1 Again, I have to say you lost the point. The drama in the moment was that she was too different from the other Dreamgirls and too coarse for him. She was pulling on the case of love and culture . . . it is not as believable with Hudson. Try to project yourself into the story more and stay away from thinking Hollywood production, or you'll never get my point . . .

  • @mrsmojet1 that's just a negative comment. you can talk about her performance and singing but to bring looks into it like that-wow you're missing out because she's incredible. saying she's ugly and saying she gets a minus point...maybe that's something you can keep to yourself

  • that is why Jennifer Holiday orginated that song outstanding

  • omg i love love love love these 2 i love the dream girls. that my favorite part and song and the movie.

  • Having both versions together is awesome!

I like how this has that extra part to the song. :)

The recordings and such don't seem to have it. :(

  • OMFG... this is PHENOMENAL!!! It gives me goose bumps every-single-time... thank you for posting :-)

  • awesome, just f***in AWESOME!!!! i wish i can sing like them! damn, artists nowadays should have this much soul in their songs and not so much of the beats of the songs cause this is just awesome. i love both of them:D

  • J hudson got it

  • holyday!! awesome!!

  • i am sorry, but no offense to Jennifer Hudson, but Jennifer Holliday owns this song. She made you feel her pain.

  • Both women are fantastic. :D

  • At the beginning I was ready to give the standing ovation to Jennifer Holliday but when Jennifer Hudson had finished singing Bravo! to both women Well Done. Am I am telling you will be listen to from generation to generation being sung by the two women to have sung I'm not going and you're gonna love me.

  • my god goosebumps!

  • idk why ppl think j. holliday was old here. she was 22! jennifer hudson was 25...which means hudson was the older one but by a small margin. nonetheless, both singers are fab, both very soulful.

  • @godismyjudge89 I think how they had J. Holliday dressed aged her! Its like one of those outfits they make her for bigger girls, with no thought to just try and cover up the curves with fabric...with J. Hudson, they made the suit fit her and the cut was pretty decent considering it was the 70s!

  • after watching both time and time again. jennifer holiday, provides this spark of deepness, and pain that though j. hudson does do incredibly, holiday has this power that comes from age and heartache that you cant duplicate. just my opinion

  • I am going to disagree with most comments here......granted both are incredible performances okay....no question. Holiday comes in with a pure tear your heart out performance....BUT look at the age difference and the ability of Hudson to pull the depth of her song from her soul and I have to give ant rhumbs up to her. Again...both unbelievable and unforgettable deliveries but for me Hudson takes the roses (and the Oscar) home.

  • OMG Big respect to Jennifer Holliday... Sent chills all over me... You can see/feel the heartbreak and pain. I loved Jennifer Hudson version too, but holiday blows her out the water...

  • 2 great and beatiful women now that was awesome

  • I know it's not competition, but i have to disagree with some of the people. its very close, you would have seen jeffifer hudson do it live. But were great gave me chill's. not sure if there's anyone else today with the range to even come close to jennifer Holiday. i give this a big thumbs up.

  • There is no comarison.....I saw Jennifer Holiday do it live on stage....we were all stund when she did this song.

  • they are both INCREDIBLE but j. holiday there is just no comparison..

  • i think both are awesome effies in their own right

  • she can sing

  • Mannn I always thought J hudson killed this song...but after watching J holiday sung this...she is the queen...even though J hudson is no sloutch....she did a damm good job singing this song...

  • idk man. I like them both a lot. They are both extremely talented. Personally I'd have to say Hudson (performance was just incredible!!) and I'm not much for all the screamin while singing.

    But ya, both outstanding!!

  • @DaTruth73 Man WTF you said!

  • @DaTruth73 My Ass!!Jennifer Troglodite did this song A MILLION YEARS AGO! But Jennifer Hudon has OWNED the Remake! AND her voice hits a higher register Than that Pregnant-Cow-Holliday!!!! She just Outright BEGS-FOR-IT!!! While Hudson retains her Dignity!!!! AND SHE WINS HANDS DOWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • awesome

  • DAMN!!! i wish i could like that...both are incredible in their own right. :)

  • LAS DOS ESTAN EXCELENTES TRASMITEN EL SENTIMIENTO DE LA CANCION Y HACEN QUE SE TE ENCHINE LA PIEL CREO QUE AMBAS INTERPRETACIONES SON GENIALES ME ENCANTA ESTA CANCION BUEN VIDEO. =)

  • I don't know by you guys but the version of J. holliday is much better in my ears...

She really brings the soul to it...

  • I knew Hudson could do this song justice from the moment I heard that they were making the movie. I've been behind her 100% since day 1. All through Idol to this.

  • When I watched this in the movie theater I actually cried. Beautiful staging. It feels like a stage performance.

  • both versions are great, great singers, great voices

  • I saw this women on in LA....doing this show....I can't believe she could do this every night......took my heart away....she was Amasing....we were all on the edge of our seats.

  • they both have such unbelievably beautiful voices! so talented!

  • love.

  • They both make me cry! They both have a great voice! If you can sing like this..so beautiful and with so much emotion..Then, and only then you can call yourself a great singer!

  • WOW! They are both incredibly talented women who both have respect for their craft and each other. Jennifer Holliday won a Tony for her portrayal of Effie, the highest honor a broadway actress can get. Jennifer Hudson won an Oscar for her portray, again the highest honor available. To me this means they both did an incredible job and need no comparison.
