  • awesome!!!!!!

  • Very nice....

  • Great job! :D

  • SWEET!!!

  • the bass is too groose

  • what component of your setup makes the growly low end sound trademark to this song?

  • @zBassGuitarFanaticz I used the Nord Lead 2 to make all of the synth sounds including my attempt at that one. The original sound on Moving Pictures was made by an Oberheim OB-Xa.

  • That super crazy cool

  • crazy ricken sound!!!

    very cool

  • Very Man....Very cool!

  • great job, but if you used your pinky more you wouldn't have to move your hand as much after the synth solo

  • crazy setup man!

    awesom bass

    gotta l;ove 4003

    and great playing!

  • An inspiration to us beginners!

  • Good job, but now learn to move the mic with your nose while singing ;-)

  • YEAH GO SWEDISH ROCKERS

  • when u went to piano i was like YESS MAN PLAY THE SOLO

  • you are the man

  • Awesome. Awesome. Awesome.

  • very cool

  • very awesome man.

  • dude, love the rick!

  • perfect man!!

    very cool !

    please a video lesson?

    the best cover for me!

  • great cover man!!

  • Very nice!

I play in a band called Spectroscope here in Sweden where I use the Roland pk-5 for bass pedals. I've been thinking of buying the MP-117 because of its wider range but wasn't sure of the quality. It's looks very stable though. Have you tried the Roland Pk-5?

  • @toxicolsson No, I haven't tried the Roland PK-5 but I think Rush has used that model so I'm sure it is pretty nice.

  • watching this video really shows you the awesomeness of geddy lee.

  • Amazing!

  • Geddy Lee would be proud

  • Nice Job man!

  • You could take Geddys place, as far as instruments. I don't think anyone could sing like Geddy Lee.

  • +1 on the Nord sir! There aren't enough of them around that's for sure!

  • dude i really would like to have ur bass

  • That sounds awsome!

Hey, can you tell what´s that equipment all about?

I mean, what amps do you use for the Pedalboard, for the keyboard and for the Rickenbacker?

And whats the name of the keyboard? Very Beautiful

By the way, love the sound of the keyboard, the sound is very similar to the keyboard that Geddy used in 80/81

    Congrats, men!

    Rush On!

  • Thanks very much!

    Here is the equipment list:

    Rickenbacker 4003 bass

    Gallien-Krueger MB150E bass amp

    Nord Lead 2 synthesizer

    Roland KC-100 keyboard amp

Studiologic MP-117 pedalboard (MIDI controller that doesn't make any sounds itself)

The Nord Lead 2 makes all of the synth sounds.

    Hope that helps!

  • @fcbv im going to buy some pedals soon and i have some questions. I was told by a guy at a music shop that you cannot plug a midi pedalboard into a synth keyboard. so my questions are:

    - how do you plug a pedalboard into a keyboard to give forth sound and

-can it work for any keyboard.

  • @RubixTutorial01 I'm plugging the Studiologic MP-117 pedalboard into the Nord Lead 2 synthesizer in this video using a MIDI cable. The cable goes from the MIDI OUT on the pedalboard to the MIDI IN of the synth. This lets me play the Nord using both its own keyboard and the pedalboard. This should work for any synth that has MIDI capability. The pedalboard is just a MIDI controller with no sounds of its own.

  • And you couldn't have even been bothered to look at the information?

  • all i have to say about that is goddamn that was cool.

    Nice cover.

  • wow its like the real lee!! same guitar.

  • nice ric and cover

  • awesome!

  • i love rush and you did them justice. great job and lots of talent.

  • dude that synth sounds sweet nice cover man jusst like Geddy Lee

  • Wickedly awesome!

  • Where did you get those pedals?

  • It's the Studiologic MP-117 MIDI pedalboard. You can get them new from a bunch of places online.

  • great work!

  • turn up that bass bro!

  • not really geddy used the 4001 this is the 4003 they look identical tho

  • Not identical, there are very subtle differences between the 4001 & the 4003's.

Awesome cover dude, you fuckin' nailed it!

  • eevryone has the black and red Rick am I the only one that actualyl has the maple color?

  • You belong in a band, awesome!

  • awesome job, where do you get pedals like that and how much, can u explain ur rig to me?

  • It's the Studiologic MP-117 MIDI pedalboard. You can search for "MIDI pedalboard" to find places online that sell them. It doesn't make any sounds by itself but I use it to control the Nord Lead 2 which is the red keyboard in the video. The MIDI out of the pedalboard is connected to the MIDI in of the synth with a MIDI cable.

  • awsome!!!

  • good job!

  • awesome, synth too

  • who are ya man? Geddy Lee's brother or something? holy shit ur good

  • lol and u playing the song on the song bass Geddy Lee used in the Tom Sawyer vid lol good show 5/5

  • b wow

  • very good totally!!! you nailed it man cheers!

  • ur fkn amazing! =)

  • holy balls that is awesome, just awesome man.

  • Fuck Yea

  • Badass

  • sick

  • too bad geddy used his fender when he recorded this song :(

    rock on

  • no he didn't!

check out the tom sawyer video here on youtube, you can see them record the song and he has the rickenbacker.

  • He used the Jazz bass for the recording.

  • thats an unknown fact though, it has been debated but never proven.

  • but if you listen to the tone of his bass in this song, it sounds different then Red Barchetta which IS the Rick. but i could be wrong, we dont know for sure, but i thought i read somewhere that Geddy himself said he used the jazz for Tom Sawyer. idk...

  • that the sexiest bass ever... thats geddy lees!!!! give it back... jk

  • .....Dude...Possibly the world's best cover of this ever by just one guy....Dude....

you rock man love your bass skills and your awesome guitar! 5/5!

  • For a moment there, you were Geddy Lee... [Without the singing of course, which just would have made it complete]

  • cool synthisizers

  • Too much. I thought I was a Rush fan.

  • MUY BUENO!!

  • hey nice rig by the way.

  • where on earth do you get those synthesizer pedal boards?

  • Aight. I've nailed it.

  • How do you get that intro synth growl? What are your parameters?

  • You have to play around with filter resonance and ADSR settings along with the LFO. The key is a high resonance setting. The decay setting is the time it takes for the growl to descend and the sustain is what level the filter stays at while you are holding the key/pedal down (the bottom hovering part of the growl is how i think of it.)

  • Can you (please)to explain how the connection between the keyboard and your bass pedal was done ? i have a midi keyboard here, and one bass pedal, and would like to link they two. Thanks for any answer, and wish you a great and happy 2009 . Thank you.

  • I connected them with a MIDI cable. It went from the only MIDI port on the pedalboard to the MIDI-IN on the Nord Lead 2.

  • i take one look and i know for a fact its a nord... i have a stage, how do you like the lead 2?

  • It's a great instrument. It's very easy to program your own sounds.

  • one question, when you start to do the rounds on the synthesizer, do you go between A and B as the first note in each round? Thx alot in advance

  • I stay on A. The lowest note changes from D to B each time though.

  • oh ok

    awesome, thx for your help

  • oh my god you dont have a life because you have a rickenbacker xD

    you rock dud

  • what are you doing when you poke the keyboard? (for example at 3:22) oh and grate cover. i used this to help me learn this song a whiles back.

  • Hi, the red keyboard is a Nord Lead 2 and I use to make all of the sythesizer sounds in this video. I use two settings on it that I programmed to sound like the original sounds. The first setting has the lead sound and the descending sound. The second has just a sound with high notes. I can play the Nord with either its own keyboard or with the MIDI pedalboard foot controller. (continued)

  • 0:00 Nord starts set to lead/descending

0:14 play descending sound with foot

0:26 switch Nord to high notes

0:40 play high notes with foot

0:55 switch Nord back to lead/descending sound

1:13 play descending sound with foot

1:36 play lead and descending sound with hands

2:00 move wheel forward to alter lead sound

  • 2:36 switch to high note sound

2:38 move wheel back to normal position

3:00 play high notes with foot

    3:22 switch to lead/descending sound

3:32 play descending sound on pedalboard

3:54 play descending sound with hands

4:02 play lead and descending sound with hands

    4:06 adjust wheel

  • wow... that's loving geddy

  • MY GAWD SO GOOD ^^!

  • awesome dude :D

  • great! but you have to sing it too.

  • It sounds too bassy, try adding some treble.

  • what about the bass pedals through the keyboards?

  • hey man! congratulations! youre great!

  • The Studiologic- what did you patch it to and what setting (since it makes no sound on its own)?

  • It was hooked up to the Nord Lead 2. I used three patches I programmed myself.

  • Where did you get the bass pedal synth?

  • It's the Studiologic MP-117 MIDI pedalboard. You can get them new from a bunch of places online.

  • hey man, i'm thinking about getting a rick. are they honestly worth the money?

  • only if you use it for gigs or recordings not practicing

the string wear the frets down really fast

  • I've never had that problem with my Ric, and it's well over 30 years old.

If you are having a problem with fret wear, just start stringing your bass with flats, and the problem should stop.

  • great equipament

    View My videos !

  • Marvellous! Now if only you could sing and do that as well, you'd be earning a fortune in a tribute act. I must admit though, I found the constant knob twiddling annoying.

  • hey man, that synth sounds great, can you tell me how you got the sound? i just got a synth and i dont really know what alll the osc and stuff do. Thanks!

  • Thanks! If you are going to program the sounds yourself it will take a lot of playing with your synth to see how it all works. If you don't mind taking the time to figure it out it can be a lot of fun. Google for the manual if you didn't get it with your synth too.

  • Very good work!

Not the Moog Taurus bass pedals but fantastic performance.

  • damn it i want that pedalboard and that synth

    so nice

  • that was amazing. WOW,, i just had a question. do you have any dea what bass geddy used in the big money video? i am going to have to suscribe to you.

  • Thanks! It's probably the Wal.

  • A Custom WAL bass he ordered.

  • thats such a nice bass i wanna get a rickenbacker but i spent all my money on a stratocaster :P

  • i ordered one last month and atill waiting. im just telling you it will take forever.

  • excelent !!!!!!!!

  • that was pretty amazing.

    HIGH FIVES!

  • hey dude.. very nice played . my favourite rush song :D:. just wanna know, you play it at a Am on the piano? (at 1:41 )

  • Thanks! The notes are [A F# G# E F# D and then A F# G# E F# B] so I start with my pinky on A and put a finger on G#, F#, E with my thumb on D. The first five notes repeat the same but then the sixth note changes to B so I move my thumb down to B without lifting the other fingers. So the finger numbers in order are [5 3 4 2 3 1 5 3 4 2 3 1] with the thumb moving between D and B.

  • dude ur just as good as the real rush if not better! keep up man! make some friends in the biz and i can see you going places! keep up man!

  • what kind of pedalboard is that and how much

  • It's the Studiologic MP-117 MIDI pedalboard.

  • haha nice pedals

  • Great job man! I've been elected to do what you're doing here for this garage band I'm in. I'm using a Roland JP8000 though... any pointers on programming patches and any other info you wish to divulge to make my life easier? :-) Seriously... any info would be incredibly helpful! Thanks in advance.

  • Thanks! I guess the most important thing about the "growl" sound is that is involves playing with the filter fall times and resonance. The lead part needs to have two oscillators that are very slightly out of tune with each other to get a kind of phasing effect. Good luck!

  • I am so jealous of your taurus pedals... I wants them so bad *drooling on myself*

  • Nice Rickenbacker

  • F**kin good cover my friend!

  • Is that a Nord?

  • It's a Nord Lead 2.

  • cool

  • Oh, that was sweet.

    Good job.

  • wow im just amazed by your skill and the such good quality of your gear im jealous bro haha

  • how many effects are on the (small) line 6 bass pod

  • could u give the tab? I've been trying to learn it and I don't give the one part in the beginning

  • Sorry, I don't use tab.

  • oh ok then

  • Just go to any tab site if you want to learn the song

  • dude theres a bass book called classic rush by warner bros. publications just get that

  • Great job man you nailed it. this is deffinatly my next song to lean

  • Rush is so dorky, but like, amazing.

  • you like Rush

  • is that a nord lead 2x?

  • It's the 2.

  • man, what kind of keyboard and synth pedals you using? im interested!! good man, good work ;P

  • Thanks! I use the Nord Lead 2 and the Studiologic MP-117 MIDI pedalboard. The pedalboard is just a MIDI controller with no sounds though.

  • ahh, ill have to look into it

  • Way to multi-task just like Geddy! Friggin awesome dude!

  • dude your great

  • love the bass hate the head stock but nice playing.

  • it's a rickenbacher don't dis any part of it

  • NICE!!!

  • nice man, how u learn the songs?

  • Thanks! I mostly learn by ear.

  • actually... really good job, especially on the sounds. very accurate. by the way, i' thinking about getting a floor POD. would you recommend it? i've heard it's great for modeling, how is it for effects?

  • Thanks for watching! I've found the POD to be pretty useful. In this video I just used it to add a little reverb to the synth.

  • ladies and gentlemen mr. geddy lee lol

  • Hmm, are you using a software to make the "growl" sounds with the Pedal?

  • The pedalboard is connected to the Nord Lead 2 to trigger the "growl" and one other synth sound. I use a third sound when I play the lead part directly on the Nord Lead 2. The pedalboard is a MIDI controller with no sounds of its own.

  • Which MIDI pedal board is that? It looks to have more than the usual one octave range.

  • It's the Studiologic MP-117 MIDI pedalboard.

  • wow! Really good!

    just amazing!!!!

  • wait nvm haha. looks like u have em.

  • u should try rotosound flatwound swing strings.

    it's what geddy used.

i use power, it's steve harris's signature's set....but they're the smoothest sounding and smoothest on your fingers that you will ever play.

  • i think they said everything already lol

  • Could you have tried any harder? I'm sure they'll call you right up when Geddy kicks off.

  • Nicely done!

  • good playing man. also its kinda random but geddy actually used his jazz bass on this song, it doesnt matter thought nice bass and nice playing

  • Great playing brother

  • Is your bass tune a step lower?

  • It's standard tuning actually.

  • I must have heard it wrong

I listen to it several more times and UI did't hear what I heard the first time

  • rock on
