'silver-studded sabre tooth' dream evidences poetic prowess. Check adjectival phrase; it conjures up such imagery. A silver studded sabre tooth queen, that's some queen of the jungle, .. or maybe also, a silver-studded sabre tooth teen ... you see plenty of those in the subways everyday, with their tatts and studs. Seriously silver studded sabre tooth teens... all of them WITH mobile phones. lol
OK I seem to have a addition! All the old T.Rex stuff is yet again filling my home, my car and the work place - When will this music ever get out of my heart and mind ? At this time of year - Marc's week - I just always play a couple of tunes - for old times sake - then before I know it, I'm raving about Marc and T .Rex to everybody ! They smile sweetly but must be thinking "Ah poor old girl"!
@DesdomonaChild Fancy that. Great minds think alike. I noticed you visited my channel too. If we met up we would be like too silly old chooks wearing punk hair styles, glitter makeup and silky scarfs, and bopping about to Metal Guru... is it you? yea yeah yea
im not so sure he is miming.......alot of acts did mime on these "hit parade" shows back in the 70s but quite often a backing track would be played which the band mimed to but the vocal would be live......anyway great track , music of my youth!!
Great stuff. "Metal Guru" was - and indeed still is - one the definitive anthems of glam rock, along with a small number of other British classics from the early 1970's, such as Bowie's "Starman", Slade's "Mama Weer All Crazee Now" and Wizzard's "Angel Fingers". What an immensely talented man Bolan was ...... and what a lot he achieved during his relatively short time on God's Earth.
My bro is a bit selective and out of all the brilliant T.Rex songs, he only likes this one and a couple others. He's also scared of Marc Bolan in this video. I told him to put his head up his arse.
This came on Radio 2 when I was in the car a few weeks ago. If I had been at home I would have jumped up and down because I can't have a T.Rex song come on the radio without me doing something mad. I have stuff on CD but it seems more special if it comes on unexpected.
Clanking sound like metal on metal, like the hypnotic sound of a rattling train on a rail track, a hammering noise; lyrics tell of reverence and danger, through awe (guru), and a vulnerability in a sterile (ie clean) world, cold (metal) and unnatural developments, ie metallic fake to release a wild rock 'n roll child. Could be a sling off at the music industry.
Of all the tunes from the glam rock era. This is the one I love the most. Marc Bolan had more charisma than anybody else of his day and was a massive loss when he was killed. Here we see him at the height of his fame.
First album I bought @ 13... & hey gammypetra, it's not THEIR fault they don't know what format was used 40 years ago. Chill. I dig the 13 year old that responded... cool brother. LONG LIVE ROCK.
I love this song when I'n a junior high school student. For a long time, I wish I could this time one more time. My brother might have this record. But I didn't remerber that 'cause this story is more than 30 years ago from now.
"The influence of T-Rex is very profound on certain songs of The Smiths i.e. 'Panic' and 'Shoplifters'. Morrissey was himself also mad about Bolan. When we wrote "Panic" he was obsessed with 'Metal Guru' and wanted to sing in the same style. He didn't stop singing it in an attempt to modify the words of 'Panic' to fit the exact rhythm of "Metal Guru". He also exhorted me to use the same guitar break so that the two songs are the same!!!" - Johnny Marr
I will go further and say that Electric Warrior and Slider influenced the sounds on albums like: Houses of the Holy, Quadraphenia, Dark Side of the Moon
Why wasn't Gloria Jones charged with manslaughter? Surely if you cause someone else's death but it isn't planned that IS manslaughter. Don't all attack me at once: I'm 28 and not a T-Rex fan so I'm not asking it out of vindictiveness. I'm just curious about the whole story.
I'm not 100% sure but I think there was an investigation of some kind back then.
For it to be classed as manslaughter in this case, there'd have to be some proof of extreme negligence or recklessness on her part, for example drink driving, speeding, driving without due care and attention.
It is possible to be involved in a fatal car crash and be none of the above, ie a tragic accident, so I'm pretty sure that must have been the conclusion for no charges to be brought against her.
A true ambassador & I suspect- an academic ! Blokes at school put the shit on because I liked T Rex.(until they got to "the party" & found a lack of stoner music and tolerance especially from the shielahs! Onya Marc & Mick !
For down below a couple... 'cuz the R'n'R hall is a fuggin' joke. They should most definitely be in. As should a lot of rock bands.. how 'bout the Runaways ?, Black Sabbath, KISS, DEVO, the NY Dolls...
@bolanthfcmod44 Why indeed? He was an exceedingly talented man, who instigated the 'glam rock' craze of the early/mid-1970's. His untimely death in an horrific road traffic accident - at the very early age of 29 - was a tragic loss to the pop/rock music industry (as well as to his family and personal friends).
I'd like to post my take if its ok with my fellow Bolan fans
This is a song sung to the singer from a fan in the audience; he/she is asking the metal guru to attract some girl/guy to the audience for them to hook up with.
Who makes songs like this now?
And someone who wears a t-shirt of his own face to his own concerts is the only one who could write a song like this.
If Bolan were alive now he would be the baddest rapper ever
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
