As an anglophone I am now being humiliated everytime I call Revenu Québec, or a CLSC, or the SAAQ, etc. I am forced to listen to a full menu (pressing 9 won't skip it) using my cellphone minutes and THEN I am allowed to press 9 for English. Francophones in Ontario (officially an English province) don't get this kind of treatment, so why should I?
2:32 - “Dans les autres provinces, comment ça se passe? Est-ce que c’est uniquement en anglais?”
She asks Perrault this question, even though she knows the answer. I bet this “reporter” was planted by the organizers of the event to ask questions that would allow Beaulieu and Perrault to rant endlessly about the grave “injustices” the French-speakers suffer in Quebec and Canada
Long live Quebec in a country where individual rights and freedoms are not trumpted by mob or gang "rights", it is only through the predominance of individual rights over all else that a jurisdication can claim to be truely democratic, peaceful and free. This is what Rene Levesque would have wanted not this "gang rules" attitude that Quebec Nationalism has morfed into.Vive les/Long live those who truely respect and understand the freedom of the individual, religion, family, language-respect
It's alright (I'd write to you in french if I wouldn't make so many mistakes)I like Quebec, to be honest. I just worry about it sometimes. I wonder when everyone will be happy. What more legislation it would take? I have one sovereignist friend, an ex-sovereignist friend, and a confused Montrealer who wouldn't be considered a true Quebecer because his french isn't that good. This is the reality in Quebec. Nobody's perfect, but hey no worries. Peace out.
For me, being a fairly bilingual person. I could care less. But, what if a person from the US comes to visit and needs to call the governmental offices of tourisme Quebec? They wouldn't know what to do. Also, let's flip this particular scenario, what if recorded message would say "bienvenue... pour continuer en francais faite le 9". Would this be better. No. Either way their is an issue. I agree, that this is part of a much larger perceived problem and I even agree with some of MMF's campaigns.
What really irks me is that it seems that most members of the MMF do not understand that Quebec allows for everyone to have the RIGHT to be served in French instead of everyone talking unilingually in French. It seems that most complaints to the OLF are made by people who do not exercize their right. If I am a clerk and I greet my customer with Hello, they don't have any right to report me to the OLF. But if they ask to be served in french and I refuse that service I agree 100% with the MMF.
What's wrong with you? Non-separatists can't comment on this ridiculousness? Are you a language watchdog paid by mouvement montreal Francais to eradicate whatever remains of English. Please give me a break. And by the way "pour service en anglais" is not english, so for one who doesn't understand, there's no point. What worries me about you guys is every little thing will bother you. Get a life. if you fear assimimilation, don't blame anglos for crying out lout
What is really sad is that the "press 9" does not violate bill 101 and the mouvement has taken liberties on "the common language" clause. Bottom line, every person has a right to have the civil administration, the health services and social services [...] and all enterprises doing business in Quebec communicate with him in French.
And the message, although interupted by English, still serves francophones in their language. Can they really not wait for this 3 second delay?
It's so sad what happened to Quebec. Too bad, because Montreal is a cool city, but language extremists will ruin it for good. Quebec libre, propaganda...This province can not move forward. These people will never be happy. Can't wait to leave Quebec and move to Canada, my country.

This is extremely petty and small-minded.

Because you want the english menu first ?
