so pay a bunch more money than a standard tent just so it can be on the roof of a car, not on the ground? I don't know. I guess if I camped "weekly"?

The car is bigger then the tent, I would just camp out in the car plus you don't need to go up and down a ladder if you stay in the car. lol

what if late at night you had to take a leak and forgot that you were not in a normal tent, but a tent six feet off the ground. so you open the door to crawl out, then bam,face plant right onto the ground

If I have no car - I guess I just find a hole to climb down and bingo - I was being dumb - just get rid of the ladder

I just invented a 'computer tent' - a tent with a computer in. Advantage - no need to go anywhere and the PC fan is nice and warm
