It's an unusual ending, but I find that I didn't understand the theme of the story until this scene. It's about honor and duty. They're sailors with a job (hunt the enemy and bring him in) and they won't stop until the job is complete. And yet, as British, they are gentlemen
@outsideredge May seem unusual but not really. Command is a lonely position. There is only one commander. He has no peer. Yet the Doctor is his friend and personal peer, a confident. And you are right, it is about duty and honor. This is one of the most brilliant leadership movies I've ever seen. His men follow him because they want to, not because they have to. THAT is leadership. More leaders should watch and learn from this great movie. And the soundtrack is great.
In this melody is everything. After each minute of rest, joy, happiness, just for something nice and beautiful, takes hard work and duty. It is the cycle of life and it must be. Therefore, even if we want to visit the Galapagos Islands and study the local fauna, we must, unfortunately, fulfill our tasks and responsibilities. And the music it describes exactly.
God what a time. Real warfare, honor in fighting, true craftsmanship in work. I know there were some negatives but I would love to go back just to be in a port of these gorgeous ships everywhere.
@nosdog136 i think you´ll find it´s one of the hardest instruments to play... the beginning (think two years!) can be rather frustrating... but don´t let that discourage you if you really love it!
@orlandogirl213 boo hoo some one got hit with a phone, you know if crowe needs to hit ppl with phones so he can make movies like this then sign me up ill get hit with phones untill the end of time if it means me and everyone else get to watch some fine acting and if you got a problem with that than take it up with russell crowe and fight him around the world
Can someone fully explain the ending to me ? Why exactly are they going after the "Acheron" again ? Ok the captain is still alive but what are they gonna do to him when they catch up to the ship ? Or did the captain take back the ship ?
@Gram547 the point is, the french captain is still alive, posing as the ship´s doctor. as captain, he has the authority over his men plus the nautical abilities to lead the ship. all the french surviving seamen are on board of the acheron, so with a leader they´d have a good chance of owerpowering their english captors and winning the ship back. this is why jack is following them. i assume when they catch up they´ll formally take the captain prisoner.
@indieroc4life neding? im not sure what that means but i need this movie thats why i have it and i need russel crowe to make more anyone see the next 3 days?
I Freakin love this period of history too... so ballzy to live back then on a ship like that... sorry for the double post but im tripping ballz atm...
Amazing piece, amazing movie, and two amazing actors... I LOVED this film, always wondered why it wasnt a huge hit... Best nuatical warefare movie ever..... The ending was literally perfect, couldnt have been done any better....
Love that scene. Those two are proper gentlemen: courteous, wellspoken, literate, masters of their particular field of expertise and they play some damn fine chamber music.

You know what would make this movie great? If Russell Crowe, the cell phone throwing jerk, wasn't in this movie.

@Gram547 Thats why they were going back, for fear that the French would take back the ship.
