just to set the record straight, i know chris personally and he isnt much of a 1 on 1 speaker, much less a public speaker. in addition, he had almost no time to rehearse or prepare because he was taking care of his father who had no nurse the day before. it was very spur of the moment and he did his best so stop hatin'
@radicalace2 Agreed. But people would rather focus on some shortcoming as a public speaker rather than the fact that he's been a good son in his father's time of need.
@mrkducot *Did He even read ONE letter from his notes? ( I was so pissed I couldn't even type straight!) Did you see how he left his Dad at podium to give Phil Jackson some love? What a D*ck!
@winterruss - I would not put too much weight on people's comments here. The speech is very decent. The issue is that fans are used to hearing emotional or sensational types of speeches, and when given a simple, factual speech, they get bored. Your bro's speech was a bit dry, but not bad at all.
Tex coached for 57 years and holds a 67% winning percentage... plus he invented the Triangle Offense which gave Phil eleven damn championship rings... How the hell did his son mess this one up? I don't give a fuck if he's never played or watched basketball, do the fucking research on your legendary genius father and give him the respect he deserves.
Big ol' heart and emotions got in the way. Reminded me of 45 years ago when we were kids in his dads office looking at sketches of the Triple Post on his office door.
what a fucken douche this guy...totally wrecked the entire moment. looks like Tex had everything written down on the paper & he didn't read not one page it seems.
They have so much time to prepare for a speech and this is what his son came up with? Pathetic. Way to ruin your dads moment. Next time Tex just ask Homer Simpson to do the talking.
Chris is my younger brother, and I he does have a quirky personality. I think he just tried to pull off a little too much here, and as my dad might say incorporated , "used too much wasted motion." that got out of hand. So much for his public speaking days. For those here who wonder if Chris is a functioning human being, let it be said he has a PhD in Physics, and a top technician in his field. I am not aware of any drinking or drug issues, and I chock this up to a peculiar bad moment.
@winterruss How do you feel about your dad being misrepresented to the maximum? I'm sorry but I find it very difficult to believe that your brother has a PhD in physics but can't even deliver a speech. Most people will probably agree that a high school student could have whipped up a better speech. And how come you didn't honor Tex?
this was horrible. You didn't hear anything about the creation of the triangle. You didn't hear anything about his professional career. This was poorly done. Disgraceful
What an absolute disgrace! I knew something was up when they were leaving their seats and he was holding half of the paper from tray 4 of the office photocopier! He doesnt even speak as if he's his son! "Im speaking for him?!!!" ... him who?!!! You mean your dad you Dick?! "I havent really checked that out?" Da Hell?! Stephens from Butler-"I dont even know him?!" Then why even talk about him at your Dads HOF induction?!!! No Relevance and No Tribute to the Great Tex Winter! Disgraceful!
After about the 3rd Minute, I really looking forward to Tex shoving his Son out the way & taking over. I know he's physically going through some things, but it would've been better than this!
He says, "It's tough to sum up 60+ years"... well, they had just showed a Tribute Video before this Speech that DID Sum It All Up! He should've just Thanked who his Dad wanted him to Thank and Leave. Instead he talks about himself & other people???..... Embarrassing.
OMG! This is the worst speech I have ever seen in my life. I know that it's not easy to make a speech in front of a lot of people, but this was just ridiculous! I couldn't stop laughing and his dad was looking like he wanted to beat him down. Phil Jackson looked like he wanted to beat him down too for this wack speech! They need to redo this part and let someone else give Tex a more honorable speech. LMAO!
I watched that live last night and rewatching it today I still think that is one of the most appalling things I've ever seen. Utter disgrace to his father.
While the HOF and the NBA were bracing themselves for the antics of Rodman, this gem occurred. I seriously don't know what is wrong with Chris Winters but when I saw the women next to him (wife I am guessing) uncross his legs for him I had a feeling this was going to be interesting.
This is truly embarrassing I really feel sorry for Tex i don't know if his son was on drugs or drunk but my goodness. I couldn't even watch the whole thing.
He obviously wasn't prepared but he was also nervous and emotional. It's okay. At least Winter is finally in the Hall of Fame. That's what's important.
Chris is obviously not a polished speaker but I think he did a respectable job trying to speak for his father. As he mentioned, there's just far too much to cover in a short speech when it comes to the 67-year career of Tex Winter. Despite being sort of all-over-the-place, the points Chris made were good ones, and if people want a more complete picture of his father's legacy, a good place to start is the book "Trial By Basketball", which is very informative.
that was the worst speech ever. He made his Dad look like shit. He talked more about other people and himself then he did about his Dad. It was very hard to watch. Big time train wreck. Phil should have stepped in and gave Tex some praise that his son seemed to refuse to do.. Good luck Tex and Congradulations.
@RBodem No his son just isn't a basketball fan so he couldn't put his father's accomplishment in words. Why didn't phil jackson speak for Tex? Now he would have done a better job because he's been Tex's colleague for years.
The people in charge of the HOF inductions should feel ashamed of themselves for ignoring Tex Winter's legacy and contributions to the game! Had they given him his rightful place among all other great coaches, contributors and all-around basketball minds perhaps he would have been able to say his own speech and truly savor the moment! This is one of those cases were I can't agree with the old expression "Better later, than never..."

I don't understand all the negative comments.
It was not a great speech, but it's still decent. He does talk about his Dad's journey through the college coaching ranks up to the NBA.
Yes, he did talk about other people, but No, not more than he talked about his Dad. Give the guy a break.
